쌍계사 삼장보살도의 도상 특징 (A Study on the Samjang Bodhisattva painting of Ssanggyesa Temple)

초록

하동 쌍계사 삼장보살도의 원본은 현재 성보박물관에 보관되어 있으며, 대웅전에는 근래에 조성한 모사본이 향우측에 봉안되어 있다. 삼장보살도는 1900년대 유리건판사진 자료에도 현재와 같은 위치에 있으며, 그 옆에는 독성도가 있었다.
삼장보살도는 上界敎主인 천장보살, 陰符敎主 지지보살, 幽冥界敎主 지장보살과 각각의 권속을 도해한 불화이다.
쌍계사 삼장보살도의 화기에는 1781년(정조 5년) 5월에 조성되었으며, 금어는 승윤, 만휘, 홍원, 지순이며, 편수는 평삼, 함식, 국연 등 총 20명이 참여한 것으로 기록되어 있다.
화면 중앙에는 천장보살이 권속과 함께 배치되어 있다. 천장보살은 지물없이 설법인을 취하고 있다. 천장보살 앞의 광배를 갖춘 협시보살의 도상 근거는 『범음산보집』(1709년)이다. 권속 중에서 8인의 仙人은 『범음산보집』의 ‘일월천자 북극진성’에서 星衆을 생략하고, ‘十類大仙’, ‘諸天仙衆’의 선인 이미지를 조선후기 길상적 의미를 지닌 ‘八仙’을 그린 것이다.
지지보살은 경책을 쥐고 있으며, 대좌 앞에는 광배를 갖춘 보살과 갑옷을 입은 신중이 있다. 동화사 삼장보살도(1728년)에서 협시로 제왕형과 신중이 뒤섞여 있는 것과는 차이가 있다.
지장시왕도에서 주존의 협시인 도명존자와 무독귀왕이 좌우보처로 규정한 것은 『범음산보집』「수륙문」이다. 지장보살의 권속에서 신중이 사라지고, 명부중이 자리한 것은 『범음산보집』의 영향으로 보인다.
쌍계사 삼장보살도의 주조색은 녹색, 적색 등 보색을 사용하여 화면이 경쾌하며, 금니의 도둠기법은 불화를 밝고 더욱 찬란하게 보이게 한다. 필선은 백색과 바탕보다 진한색선의 이중선을 사용하였다. 무릎의 보상화당초문은 고려불화에 버금가게 아름답고 정교하다. 화승 승윤의 화풍은 비현, 쾌윤, 평삼과 유사하지만, 안면 표현에서는 쾌윤에 근접하다. 승윤에 대해서는 앞으로 좀 더 연구가 되어져야 할 부분이다.

영어초록

The original copy of the Samjang Bodhisattva painting of Ssanggyesa Temple in Hadong is currently stored in the Seongbo Museum. In Daeungjeon, a recently painted copy is on the right side.
Samjang Bodhisattva painting is also in the same position as it is now in the photo of glass dry plates in the 1900s, and there was Dokseong painting next to it. The three Bodhisattva is a Bodhisattva Cheonjang, Jiji Bodhisattva, and Ksitigarbha.
In the picture record of Samjang Bodhisattva painting of Ssanggyesa Temple was drawn in May 1781(the 5th year of King Jeongjo). The artists are Seungyoon, Manhui, Hongwon, and Gisoon. A yotal of 20 people, including Pyeongsam, Hamsik, and Gukyeon, were in charge of Buddhist affairs.
Bodhisattva Cheonjang has the shape of a talking hand, and around there are the Hyeobsi Bodhisattva and his family. In front of the Bodhisattva Cheonjang, there is a Hyeobsi Bodhisattva with a halo. The basis for the iconography of the Hyeobsi Bodhisattva with a luminary is ‘Beomeumsanbojip’(1707) . The eight members of the family omit the star in ‘Ilwolcheonja Polar Jinseong’ in ‘Beomeumsanbojip’. The image of ‘10gods’ and ‘group of gods’ was drawn as ‘eight gods’ with auspicious meaning in the late Joseon Dynasty.
Jiji Bodhisattva is holding a sutra, and in front of the chair is a Bodhisattva with a halo and a Sinjung(신중, Guardian Deities) in armor. It is different from that in Donghwa Temple Samjang Bodhisattva painting(1728), where the King and Sinjung are mixed in a side poem.
In the Ksitigarbha and ten underworld kings paintings, the main character’s co-poet, Domyeongjonja and Mudokguiwang, defined ‘Beomeumsanbojip’ and ‘Suryukmun’ as left and right. The disappearance of the divine body from the circle of the Ksitigarbha and the place of the Myeongbu(Hall of the underword) crowd appears to be the influence of ‘Beomeumsanbojip’.
The screen uses Gold particle and complementary colors such as green and red, which are mainly used, so that the screen is light and bright. For the line, a double line such as whith and a line darker than the background was used. The flower dangcho pattern on the kness is as beautiful and sophisticated as the Goryeo Buddhist painting. The Gold particle extraction technique makes the screen look splendid. The painter Seungyun’s style of painting is similar to Bihyeon, Kwaeyun, and Pyeongsam, but in facial expression it is close to Kwaeyun. Seungyun is an area that needs more research.
