    초록

    This study aims to investigate the creation and enjoyment Gasa by the upper class nobility during the mid nineteenth century and closely examine the significance in the history of the literature of Gasa. There are 9 pieces of Gasa in total written by the upper class nobility during the mid nineteenth century.
    In Chapter 2, the creation of Gasa by the upper class nobility during the mid nineteenth century was examined specifically. The majority of the writers were the nobility from the capital area, and the rest were the nobility living in Yeongnam region. Most of the products were written intensively in the 1860s. Regarding the age of the writers; those who were in their 20s and 30s were 5 persons taking the majority. One of the characteristics of the Gasa is that most of them were long pieces, and especially those written by the writers in their 20s and 30s including Dongyuga(2,189 verses), Yeonhaengga(3,782 verses), Bukhaengga(1,962 verses) and Bakhaksaposoeilgi(4,732 verses) were all long pieces with the exception of Sangsabyeolgok.
    In Chapter 3, the tradition of the enjoyment of Gasa by the upper class nobility during the mid nineteenth century and the situation for the transmission of the created products were examined. It appears that old writers actively enjoyed writing Gasa in that they developed conventional stories and used traditional literary style. It is shown that younger writers enjoyed writing Gasa in the aspects of the content of their products and the relationship with other products. Meanwhile, the Gasa created by them left many different versions owing to their transmission power though they were long pieces of work. On the contrary, short pieces of Gasa had less transmission power and as a result only the original products are left.
    In Chapter 4, the significance in the history of the literature of Gasa was closely examined on the basis of the discussions in Chapter 2 and Chapter 3. The Gasa of young writers during the mid nineteenth century played the role of a rudder for the Korean alphabet to become the national script (the letters of the nation) of Korea in the late nineteenth century. The creation of Gasa by the upper class nobility during the mid nineteenth century shows how the Gasa became the literature of people's life in the most typical and maximized way, which is the very significance of the creation of Gasa by the upper class nobility during the mid nineteenth century in the history of the literature of Gasa. From the viewpoint of the direction of the movement of the history of the literature of Gasa, the 1860s was the peak period of Gasa when many products were written and enjoyed the most vigorously and expansively.
