정산종사 삼동윤리의 연구사적 검토 (A Research History Investigation on Three Identities Ethics of Master Jeongsan)

초록

본고는 정산종사의 삼동윤리에 대한 연구사적 검토에 목적이 있다.
정산종사는 원불교 교조인 소태산대종사의 수제자로 원불교교리의 체계화에 크게 공헌한 인물이다. 그의 사상을 파악하기 위해서는 스승인대종사의 영향을 먼저 살펴야 할 것이다. 대종사의 일원주의사상에서정산종사의 삼동윤리사상, 그리고 대산종사의 종교연합사상으로 이어지는 원불교사상의 흐름이 이를 말해준다.
삼동윤리는 1961년에 발표한 정산종사의 열반게송이다. 당시는 남북분단 아래서 세계적으로 냉전체제가 계속되고 무지·빈곤·질병·전쟁 등 사회문제가 복잡한 상황이었다. 역설적으로 보면, 이런 사회상이 정산종사로 하여금 민족이나 국가나 종교 체제 등 모든 울을 넘어서서 보편적인 윤리사상을 전개하도록 하는 자극이 되었을지도 모른다.
이 삼동윤리는『건국론』과 함께 정산종사 사상의 핵심을 이루고 있다. 중도·평등·화합 등의 사유체계를 양자에서 모두 찾아볼 수 있어서 이들이 상호 밀접한 관련을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있다.
정산종사에 대한 연구는 80년대에 들면서 차츰 이루어지다가 1992년의『정산종사의 사상』에 이르러 종합적인 연구의 기반이 마련되었다. 그리고 2000년의 정산종사탄생100주년기념사업회의 역할과 함께본격적인 연구가 이루어졌다. 기념사업회의 후원에 의해 이루어진 연구성과는『평화통일과 정산종사 건국론』(1998)에 이르러 남북통일과관련하여『건국론』이 학계의 이목을 끌었고,『 전통사상의 현대화와 정산종사』(2000) 및『미래사회와 종교』(2000)에 이르러 삼동윤리에 대한 조명이 다양하게 이루어졌다. 이는 21세기를 맞이하면서 새 천년을이끌어갈 지구윤리를 마련하기 위한 관심과 관련이 있었던 것으로 보인다.
이런 가운데 이루어진 정산종사 삼동윤리에 대한 연구경향을 다음과 같이 특징지을 수 있을 것이다.
첫째, 삼동윤리는 소태산대종사 일원사상의 해석학적 전개이다.
둘째, 삼동윤리는 대산종사가 주창한 종교연합운동의 이념적 기틀이다.
셋째, 삼동윤리는 지구윤리의 대안 가능한 최적의 모델이다.
넷째, 삼동윤리는 종교다원주의사상을 충분히 수렴하고 있다.
따라서 금후의 인류사회에 있어서 평화이념을 추구할 경우, 삼동윤리는 중요한 대안이 될 전망이다. 그리고 이러한 전개를 통해 원불교의 사상 내지 실천운동에 있어서 정체성을 확립해가는 방향타를 제공할 것으로 본다.

영어초록

In the later Choseon dynasty, Korean new religious movement was worked This is to study on Three Identities Ethics of Master Jeongsan(Song Gyu, 1900-1962) from research historical aspect. Master Jeongsan was the most brilliant pupil of the Founding Master Sotaesan(Park Jung-bin, 1891-1943) who established Won-Buddhism, and the greatest contributor of systematization of Won-Buddhist doctrine. For comprehending his thoughts, the influence of his teacher, the Founding Master has to be researched first. It clearly appears from the flow of Won-Buddhist thoughts which began with the Il-Won centered doctrine of the Founding Master, connected to Three Identities Ethics thought of Master Jeongsan and the United Religions thought of Master Daesan(Kim Dae-Geo, 1914-1998).
Three Identities Ethics is Master Jeongsan’s nirva-n·a verse stated at 1961. The time was unimaginably complicated situations for north and south division of Korea, world wide cold war, and various social problems like illiteracy,poverty, disease, wars and so on. All those social situation might paradoxically became stimulants to Master Jeongsan to develop universal ethical thought beyond all barriers of ethnic, nation, religion, and system.
This Three Identities Ethics is consisting the core thought of Master Jeongsan, along with Geongukron(theory of foundation of country). From the both, we can find out common structures of thought, middle way, equality,and harmony, so that, it is obvious for close relationship mutually.
Researches on Master Jeongsan began from 1980s, and its general research foundation has established at 1992 with the Thoughts of Master Jeongsan.
Centennial birth memorial committee of Master Jeongsan play important role to conduct regular research on his thought on 2000. Under the support of memorial committee, various researches have been accomplished; Peaceful Unification and Master Jeongsan’s Theory of Foundation of Country(1998) has put attention on his Geongukron in accordance with unification of Korea;Modernization of Traditional Thought and Master Jeongsan(2000) and Future Society and Religion(2000) have illuminated his Three Identities Thought from various aspects. It seems to be related with the interest to prepare world ethics for leading new millenium with facing 21st century.
In accordance with those researches, research aspects of Master Jeongsan’s Three Identities Ethics can be characterized as follows:First, Three Identities Ethics is an analytical development of Il-Won thought of Founding Master Sotaesan.
Second, Three Identities Ethics is the doctrinal frame of Master Daesan’s the United Religions thought.
Third, Three Identities Ethics is the most appropriate model among alternative world ethics.
Fourth, Three Identities Ethics is fully appreciating religious pluralism.
Therefore, from now on when we pursue peace doctrine for human society, Three Identities Ethics will be an important alternation. And its development will provide a rudder to establish identity on Won-Buddhist thought and practical movements.
