향토사와 관련된 김영하의 시문연구 (A Study on Kim Youngha’s Poetry Related with Local History)

초록

춘천의 ‘국사봉망제탑(國士峰望祭塔)’비문에 새겨진 시문을 근거로 향토시인 김영하(金泳河)를 추적해 보았다. 김영하는 구한말에서 일제 강점기를 거쳐 6.25동란과 광복 등 민족 수난의 시대를 살아온 춘천의 선비이자 시인이었다. 특히 고종황제의 승하 때에는 이 고장 선비들을 모아 국사봉에서 망제와 삼년상을 올리고 그 애통함을 시문으로 남기는 등 우국지사의 모습을 보였다.
나아가 김영하는 춘천의 역사와 풍물을 기록한 『수춘지(壽春誌)』를 지었다. 그는 이 지리서에 경물과 지명마다 이 고장에 전해오는 시문을 담았다. 그리고 그 시문 끝에 자신의 시문을 싣고 있다. 이런 점은 『수춘지』를 한 지방의 지리서인 동시에 우국애향의 정신을 담은 김영하의 문집으로도 볼 수 있게 하고 있다.
『수춘지』에 담은 그의 시 35수를 분석해 본 결과 다음과 같은 특징을 보였다. 첫째, <국사봉망제시>에는 그의 우국충정이 절절히 배어있다. 누운(淚韻)을 거듭 써서 통곡과 눈물의 정황을 극대화하는 독특한 양상을 보여 당시 망제에 참여한 이들이 그대로 창화(唱和)하여 읊었다. 그리고 그 산은 국사의 정기가 서린 곳으로 지역민들로부터 사랑받게 하였다.
둘째, 춘천의 경승을 알리고자 고사와 더불어 읊은 산수경물 시에는 그의 향토애가 핍진하게 녹아 있다. 특히 그의 고시 <소양정중수주련(昭陽亭重修柱聯)>시는 1수에 21개 경물과 고사를 용사하였다. 이 시 한수만으로도 춘천의 풍경과 역사를 거의 알아 볼 수 있도록 공간을 구조화하고, 계절과 시간의 변화에 따라 바라보는 시점(視點)을 달리 하여 그 진수를 맛볼 수 있게 해 주었다.
셋째, 작가 자신의 느낌만을 읊은 서정시에서도 그의 내면에 응어리진 우국의 정신을 읽을 수 있었다. 특히 <소양강>시에서는 나라를 잃고도 어찌할 수 없는 선비의 비애, 억눌려 뭉쳐진 응어리를 억야(億夜)와 만루(萬樓)라는 과장법을 통해 엿볼 수 있었다.

영어초록

This study aimed at investigating poetry of local poet Kim Youngha, based on his poems inscribed on the “Tower for Ancestral Rites at Kuksabong in Chuncheon.” He is a classical scholar and poet in Chuncheon who had lived through the era of national sufferings from the late Joseon, the era of rule of Japanese imperialism and restoration of independence to the era of the Korean War. In particular, on the demise of Emperor Gojong, out of his patriotism, he rallied the classical scholars in Chuncheon, performed sacrificial rites once per year for three years at Kuksabong and left the poems containing his grief behind.
In addition, he wrote “Suchunji,” containing the history and things in Chunchon. In this geographic book, he described scenery and poetry handed down in each place, adding his own works at the end of the poetry. This can make “Suchunji” the collection of Kim Youngha’s works containing the spirit of patriotism and love of his native place as well as a local geographic book.
Analysis of his 35 poems in his “Suchunji” shows the following features. First, “Poem for Ancestral Rites at Kuksabong” is full of his patriotic sentiment. In the unique way of his own, he maximized the situation of wailing and tears with the repeated use of “Lu(淚: tears)” rhyme, making those who had participated in the rite use the same rhyme sequence of the poem. In addition, the mountain was loved by the local residents, since it was regarded that it had received the vital force of the classical scholar.
Second, reciting scenic beauty of Chuncheon along with the related stories, his poems are full of his local patriotism. In particular, one piece of his ancient poetry “Couplet to Commemorate Rebuilding of Soyang Pavilion” recited 21 pieces of scenery and their related stories. Their space was structuralized and their viewpoints varied according to change of season and time, letting their essence be tasted. Therefore, we can imagine that this piece alone can make us realize almost all of the scenery and history in Chuncheon.
Third, even in his lyric poems that recited his own feelings, we can read his patriotism that had been clotted in his inner side of the mind. In particular, in his poem “Soyang River,” through his exaggeration of “one hundred million nights(億夜)” and “ten thousand towers(萬樓),” we can read out grief and resentment of the classical scholar who have no alternative even though his country has been lost.
In conclusion, we can find out that a study on Kim Youngha and his poetry, who had lead the era, is very valuable in understanding local emotion and culture as well as in inheriting our tradition.
