한국 근대 정치사 연구 동향과 과제 (Research Trends and Tasks in the Korean Modern Political History)

초록

이 글에서는 향후 연구를 위한 기반과 전망을 제공하기 위해 1960년대 이후 최근까지의 한국 근대 정치사 연구의 동향을 정리하고 그것에 대한 평가와 과제를 제시했다. 1960년대부터 진행된 내재적 발전론에 입각한 한국사 연구에서 근대 정치사 분야의 주안은 자주적 근대의 탐색에 있었 다. 자주적 근대의 탐색을 기준으로 연구의 궤적을 살펴보면 1960~1970 년대는 정치・사회적으로 민족주의가 강조되면서 자주적 근대를 탐색하 고 발견하는 연구가 이루어졌고, 1980~1990년대는 민중적 민족주의가 대두되면서 기존의 자주적 근대 탐색 작업이 변용되고 한편으로는 확장 되는 연구가 이루어졌다. 2000년대부터는 내재적 발전론이 비판을 받은 것에서 영향을 받아 자주적 근대 탐색을 비판하는 연구와 계속 자주적 근대를 탐색하는 연구가 공존하는 연구 경향을 보였다. 1960~1990년대 의 연구를 통해 식민사관이 극복될 수 있었고, 2000년대부터 최근까지의 연구를 통해 이전 시기 연구의 근대지상주의가 비판되고 근대를 상대화, 나아가 비판할 수 있게 되었다. 하지만 최근의 국민국가론에 입각한 연 구, 정치문화에 주목한 연구, 개념을 중심으로 정치성을 파악하려는 연구 는 보다 보완이 필요하며 그 외에도 다양한 시각과 이론을 반영한 연구 가 이루어질 필요가 있다.

영어초록

This article summarizes the trends of Korean modern political history research from the 1960s to the present, and presents its evaluations and tasks to provide a basis and prospect for future research. In the study of Korean history based on the theory of immanent development, which has been conducted since the 1960s, the main focus of the field of modern political history was the search for the independent modernity. Looking at the trajectory of research based on the search for independent modernity, research was conducted to explore and discover the independent modernity in the 1960s and 1970s as nationalism was emphasized politically and socially, and then in the 1980s and 1990s with the rise of popular nationalism, research that transforms on the one hand and expands the existing independent modernity search work on the other hand has been conducted. Influenced by the fact that the theory of immanent development was criticized since the 2000s, studies that criticize the search for independent modernity and those that continue to search for independent modernity showed a coexistence of research tendencies. The colonial view could be overcome through research in the 1960s and 1990s, and through research from the 2000s, the modernity supremacy of research in the previous stage was criticized, making it possible to relativize modernity and further come to criticize it. However, at the recent days studies based on the nation‐state theory, studies that focus on political culture, and studies that try to grasp politics with a focus on concepts need to be further supplemented, and in addition, it is necessary to conduct research that reflects various perspectives and theories.
