초록

연극사학자 유민영의 주요 한국연극 관련 개별사들을 분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 분석대상인 주요 개별사는 연대기적 서술 체제의 이완된 틀을 지니고 있고, 시기의 중첩성은 서술 방식과 긴밀히 연관되어 있고, 저자의 서술 태도를 반영한다.
둘째, 저자의 연극사 서술 태도는 “있었던 그대로 가식없이”, 그리고 “선별 없이 가능한 한 모든 것”을 서술하는 것으로 요약된다. 이 태도는 연극사 연구도 본격화되지도 않았고 연극 관련 자료도 빈약했던 1980년 전후, 많은 자료와 내용을 실증적으로 정리하여 체계화된 연극사를 기술하겠다는 학자 의식의 소산으로 보인다.
셋째, 초기의 개별사들에서는 짤막한 서론에서 기술 방법을 언급한 것에 비해, 후기의 개별사에서는 엄밀한 학문적 객관성으로 근대연극의 기점부터 용어들의 개념과 차이, 연구 대상 시기와 범위 등을 논리적으로 기술하며 연극사 서술을 본격화한다.
넷째, 저자의 개별사 서술 방식은 실증적 방법을 기초로 하여 다중적 관점에 의한 포용적 서술, 정사와 야사의 혼합 서술, 연극 관점의 변화에 따른 확장적 서술의 방식을 취한다. 다중 관점과 서술의 포용성과 확장성은 그의 개별사를 더욱 확대하는 데 기여한다.
다섯째, 그러나 이러한 서술 방식은 작게는 자료 분석, 용어의 개념, 증언의 객관성과 같은 문제를 낳기도 하지만, 크게는 관점의 무원칙, 체제의 불안한 구성, 시기구분의 중첩성이나 애매성과 같이 연극사 기술에서 학문적으로 엄밀하게 다뤄야 할 근본 문제를 낳기도 한다.

영어초록

This study analyzed his major books about the history of Korean theatre. Its overall meaning may be summarized as follows:First, his major histories of Korean theatre have loose chronical structures, and each period in each history commonly has characteristics that it overlaps one another. This overlapping of periods in history is closely connected with his chronical writing method of history, reflects on his writing attitude, and finally is due to his historical consciousness of theatre as a theatre historian.
Second, the author's basic writing attitude of theatre history is that history has to include "the whole truth without pretension", and "everything without selection". This attitude has early 1980s' background that studies on theatre history began in earnest and materials related to theatre were lacked. And it seems to be product of an historian's consciousness that will write theatre history that systemizes by arranging positively a lot of materials and contents. At this point, the spirit of Yoo Minyoung's theatre history is historical, and his major histories of Korean theatre can be the fruits of the times.
Third, historical character of each history by him is able to confirm through change of his historical consciousness. In his early history books, he mentioned writing methods on the short preface. On the contrary, in his later history books, he wrote from origination of modern theatre, the conception and difference of terminology, period and category of objects of study etc. logically, began in earnest to write history of Korean theatre.
Fourth, on the basis of positive method that original materials are collected and arranged, the theatre historian uses an receptive writing method by multiple perspectives, an mixture writing method of official and unofficial history, and an extensive writing method by change of theatrical perspective. Multiple historical perspectives and receptiveness and extensiveness of writing make his histories more voluminous.
Fifth, nevertheless although these writing methods cause from several problems such as analysis of original materials, the conception of terminology, and the objectivity of verbal evidences, cause to basic problems that have to deal with strictly in theatre history academically such as unscrupulous perspective, unstableness of chronical structure, and overlapping and ambiguity of periods in history.
