동아대학교 함진재 소장 해인사 사간판 인경변상판화의 조사현황과 특징 (The Research Status and Characteristics of illustrations of Woodblock pringing in Temple-published Edition of Haein temple Housed in Dong-A University Hamjinjae)

초록

해인사 장경판전(藏經板殿)에 소장되어 있는 강화경판(江華京板) 고려대장경(세칭 팔만대장경판)에 대해서는 일찍이 많은 관심을 받아왔고, 다방면에 걸쳐 연구가 이루어져 왔다.
그리고 해인사 장경판전(藏經板殿)에는 13세기 중엽에 조성된 강화경판과 더불어 소위 사간판(寺刊板)도 보존되어 있다. 동․서사간판전(東․西寺刊板殿)에는 해인사의 유래 및 연원을 기록한 해인사 사적류, 다양한 불교의식서 및 다라니류, 각종 경판화 등 13세기 중반부터 조선시대에 조성된 경판들이 소장되어 있다. 이같은 사간판 경판은 강화경판의 ‘대장(大藏)’에 비해 주목받지는 못했으나, 몇몇 연구자들에 의해 지속적인 연구가 진행되어 경판 목록에 대한 윤곽이 학계에 소개된 바 있다.
사간판에는 경구로 이루어진 경판 외에도 귀중한 변상판화가 수록되어 있다. 대표격의 중요한 변상판화들은 문화재로 지정되면서 그 자료들이 일찍이 알려졌으나, 사간판 변상판화에 대한 전모에 대해서는 구체적으로 밝혀지고 있지 않다. 그 이유는 사간판이 강화경판 고려대장경(대장)의 자료의 가치와 중요성에 비해 눈길을 받지 못한 점도 있거니와 경문 중심의 조사가 우선적으로 이루어지다 보니 경판화는 소외된 점도 없지 않다. 게다가 해인사 소장 사간판 진본 외에 인경본을 고스란히 보관하고 있는 곳이 매우 드물었고, 그 열람도 쉽지 않았기 때문이기도 하다.
그런데 동아대학교 함진재(函珍齋)에는 해인사 소장의 강화경판 고려대장경(대장)을 비롯하여 사간판 인경본 완질이 전해오고 있다. 이 인경본은 해인사에서 1963～1968년에 인출된 총 13질(국내외 소장) 가운데 하나이다. 특히 함진재 소장본은 타 소장처에 누락되어 있는 육십화엄경변상도 진본(東晋 불타발타라譯 418～420)과 팔십화엄경변상도 주본(唐 실차난타譯 695～699)도 확보하여 강화경판 ‘대장(大藏)’ 및 사간판 인경본을 갖추고 있다.
본고는 함진재 소장 중 해인사 강화경판 ‘대장’ 및 사간판 인경본을 일차적으로 조사하여, 사간판 변상판화의 사례 및 현황을 파악하였다. 주제별로 분류해 보면 대승경전의 대표격인 화엄경변상, 당대 위경으로 알려진 예수시왕생칠경변상을 비롯하여 부모은중경 등과 같은 경집류의 변상, 천수경과 오대진언와 관련있는 다라니류 불서의 수인도(手印圖), 불교의식 및 예참의(禮懺儀) 관련 그림, 그 외 사간판 산판집(散板集)에 해당하는 각종 인경판화 등이 확인되었다.

영어초록

Ganghwagyeongpan(江華京板, Ganghwa-Capital-Woodcut) or Goryeodaejanggyeongpan[高麗大藏經板, Woodcut of Tripitaka Koreana, generally referred to as Palmandaejang-gyeongpan(八萬大藏經板, Woodcut of Eighty-Thousand Tripitaka Koreana)] housed in Haeinsa Temple Janggyeong Panjeon(藏經板殿, Storage Hall of Tripitaka Koreana) has gained a lot of attention from a long time ago, and researches have been conducted on them multilaterally. and Woodcut of the complete collection of Buddhist Sutras in Temple-published Edition(寺刊板) with Ganghwaguengpan, made in the mid-13th century, in there too. EasternㆍWestern Saganpanjeon(東ㆍ西寺刊板殿, EasternㆍWestern storage Hall of temple-published Edition) in Haeinsa has many gyeongpans made from the mid-13th century till the Chosun Dynasty such as the books of Haeinsa recording the origin or source of Haeinsa, diverse Buddhistic ritual books and dharanis, and also all kinds of gyeongpanhwa(經板畵, Woodcut prints of a sutra). Although Saganpan gyeongpan gained less attention than Goryeo Daejanggyeongpan, some researchers did perform constant research on it and introduce the outline of its list.
Woodcut of Buddhist Scriptures in Temple-published Edition(寺刊板) contains woodcut of Buddhist Scriptures consisting of aphorisms and also the precious Woodcut illustrations(變相版畵) as well. Some of the prominent materials of Woodcut illustrations have been known from early days designated as cultural properties; however, the whole picture of Woodcut illustrations in Temple-published Edition has not been figured out concretely yet. Woodcut print of Buddhist Scriptures was neglected from the research as the focus was on sutras as they had the priority, and besides, Woodcut of the complete collection of Buddhist Sutras in Temple-published Edition(寺刊板) could not get attention for its less value and significance than those of Goryeodaejanggyeong. In addition, there were very few places that maintained Ingyeongbon(印經本) in its original state other than the original copy of Janggyeongbon(藏經本) in Temple-published Edition of Haeinsa, and besides, it was hard to get a permission to read it.
But Hamjinjae(函珍齋) of Dong-A University Seokdang Academy has transmitted the completion of Ingyeongbon in Temple-published Edition as well as Palmandaejang-gyeong, the Ganghwagyeongpa housed in Haeinsa. This Ingyeongbon is one of the total 13 copies (existing in the inside and outside of Korea) that were drawn out from Haeinsa from 1963 till 1968. In particular, those housed in Hamjinjae of Seokdang Academy include Goryeo Daejanggyeongpan and Ingyeongbon in Temple-published Edition as well securing the original copy of Illustraion of Vol.60 Avatamsaka Sutra(translated by Dongjin (東晋) Buddhabhadra, 418～420) which is omitted in other places and also the main copy of Illustraion of Vol.80 Avatamsaka Sutra(translated by Tang (唐) Sikasananda, 695 ～699), too.
This article primarily investigates Haeinsa Goryeodaejanggyeong and Ingyeongbon in Temple-published Edition among the copies in Hamjinjae in order to figure out the cases and current status of Woodcut illustrations in Temple-published Edition.
By the categories of themes, they can be classified into Avatamsaka Sutra's Painting representing the Mahayana Sutras(大乘經典), Illustraion of Fo Shuo Yuxiu Shiwang Shengqi Jing(豫修十王生七經變相) which was known as a forgery in those days, the illustration of scripture collections such as Bumoeunjunggyeong(父母恩重經), the Gyeolindo(結印圖) of dharani-type Buddhistic scriptures related with the Five Great Mantras and Cheonsugyeong(千手經), pictures associated with Buddhistic rites and Yechamui (禮懺儀; ritual books), and also all kinds of Woodblock Printing corresponding to Sanpanjip(散板集) in Temple-published Edition.
