프로이트 정신분석학의 정신지형학적 구조와 孟子 心性論의 心性構造 비교분석 (Comparative Analysis of Topographical Structure in Freudian Psychoanalysis and Mental Structure in Mencius' Mind-nature Theory)

초록

본 논문은 프로이트 정신분석학의 정신지형학적 관점에서 맹자 심성론의 심성구조를 분석하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 맹자 심성론은 유가 심성론의 原流로써 심리학이라는 학문영역과 매우 밀접한 관계에 놓여 있다. 하지만 지금까지 맹자 심성론에 대한 심리학적 연구는 매우 부족한 상황이다. 따라서 연구자는 본 주제를 통해 맹자 심성론에 대한 보다 더 실천적인 현대 심리학적 이해를 시도해나가고자 한다. 이를 위한 양 학문의 비교분석은 다음과 같은 세 가지 큰 틀에서 진행되었다.
첫째, 인식 구조론적인 측면에서 정신분석학의 意識 세계와 맹자 心性論의 小體를 비교 고찰해나가고자 한다. 감각･생리적 욕구에 이끌리는 정신분석학의 의식 세계는 정신의 영역이고, 맹자가 小體로 규정한 감각･지각적 욕망은 신체의 영역이다. 하지만 인간의 신체적 욕망은 단순한 물리적 영역만의 일이 아니고, 감각･지각적 자극에 따른 정신작용이 뒤따를 수 밖에 없다는 측면에서 본고에서는 외부 지향적이고 현실적인 意識 세계와 맹자 심성론의 小體로서의 감각･지각적 慾望을 동일 선상에서 이해해나가고자 한다.
둘째, 정신 교량적인 측면에서 정신분석학의 前意識과 맹자 심성론의 四端之心을 비교 고찰해나가고자 한다. 프로이트는 의식과 무의식 외에도 인간의 정신 구조 속에는 지금 당장 의식되진 않아도 조금만 신경을 쓰면 의식 세계로 쉽게 떠올릴 수 있는 정신구조를 발견하고 이를 ‘전의식’이라 명명하였다. 그리고 맹자는 四端之心을 통해 인간의 善性을 되찾아나갈 수 있다고 주장하고 있다. 그런데 ‘惻隱之心 仁之端也, 羞惡之心 義之端也, 辭讓之心 禮之端也, 是非之心 智之端也’라 하여 맹자가 인간의 善性을 되찾아나갈 수 있는 端緖로 제시하고 있는 四端之心은 정신지형학적으로 小體로서의 인간 慾望과 善性의 사이에 위치하게 된다. 따라서 四端之心은 善性을 되찾아나가는 ‘端緖 또는 실마리’로 작용하고 있다는 측면에서 프로이트 정신분석학의 전의식과 같은 정신지형학적 지점에서 이해해나가고자 한다.
셋째, 인간 정신의 본질적인 측면에서 정신분석학의 無意識 세계와 맹자 心性論의 善한 本性의 지점을 비교 고찰해나가고자 한다. 정신분석학에서 인간의 본질적 정신세계는 무의식세계로 이해되어지고 있다. 인간이 현재 인식하는 의식의 부분들은 정신의 피상적인 일부분에 불과할 뿐이고, 진짜 자기 자신을 규명하고 움직이는 힘의 실체는 무의식 세계라고 여겨지고 있는 것이다. 이와 마찬가지로 맹자 心性論 또한 小體로서의 감각적 욕망을 뒤로하고, 인간 마음 속 깊이 내재된 善한 本性을 인간의 본질로 바라보고 있다. 물론 프로이트가 규명한 무의식 세계의 특성은 맹자 心性論의 善性과 매우 다른 특성 및 정의들로 규정된다. 하지만 연구자는 맹자가 인간의 본질적 속성으로 바라본 인간의 善한 本性 또한 인간 정신의 가장 深淵에 위치하고 있고, 또 무의식 세계 속에서 끝없이 의식화하고 개발해나가야 하는 심성구조라는 측면에서 프로이트 정신분석학의 無意識 세계와 善性과의 접점을 비교 고찰해나가고자 한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to analyse psychological structure in Mencius' mind-nature theory from the topographical perspective of Freudian psychoanalysis. Mencius' mind-nature theory is very closely related to an academic disciplinary of psychology as the origin of Confucian mind-nature theory. Nevertheless, psychological studies of Mencius's mind-nature theory have been very scarce up to now. Thus, this study seeks a psychological understanding of Mencius' mind-nature theory. To this end, a comparative analysis of both academic disciplines was made in three aspects.
First, this study makes a comparative analysis of consciousness in psychoanalysis and Soche (小體) in Mencius' mind-nature theory. The consciousness in psychoanalysis driven by sensuous and physiological desire falls into the psychological domain, while the sensuous and physiological desire defined by Mencius as Soche falls into the physical domain. However, human physical desire does not occur only in physical domain, and mental acts naturally follow caused by sensory and perceptual stimulation. Thus, this study seeks to understand outwardly-oriented and realistic consciousness and sensuous and physiological desire in Mencius' mind-nature theory from the same perspective. Second, this study compares pre-consciousness in psychoanalysis with Sadanjisim in Mencius' mind-nature theory as a means of psychological bridge between both. In addition to conscious and unconscious worlds, Freud discovered a mental structure that could be easily awakened to the world of consciousness with a little effort, and named it 'pre-consciousness'. Mencius insisted that human beings could recover good nature through Sadanjisim, saying, "Benevolence arises from compassion, justice arises from a sense of shame, courtesy arises from a sense of tolerance, and wisdom arises from a sense of right and wrong." Sadanjisim, which Mencius proposed as a clue that helps men recover their good nature, is located between human desire (Soche) and good nature in psychological topography. Thus, this study accepts that Sadanjisim is located at the same topographical point as pre-consciousness in Freudian psychoanalysis because it serves as a clue that helps men recover their good nature.
Third, this study makes a comparative analysis of unconscious world in psychoanalysis and good nature in Mencius' mind-nature theory from the perspective of nature of human mind. Psychoanalysis understands that the intrinsic mental world of human beings is unconscious world. In other words, it considers that what currently perceived and recognized by people is just a superficial part of mind, and that the reality of something that analyses and moves themselves is unconscious world. Likewise, Mencius' mind-nature theory understands that the good nature deeply seated in human mind behind the sensuous desire Soche is the nature of man. Of course, the characteristics of the conscious world defined by Freud are very different from the good nature in Mencius' mind-nature theory. However, this study compares unconscious world in Freudian psychoanalysis with good nature to find a point of contact as the good nature of man understood by Mencius as an intrinsic attribute of man is also seated in the deepest part of human mind and a mental structure to be constantly brought to the conscious world from the unconscious world and to be developed.
