익괘(益卦)의 천시(天時)에서 본 생민(生民)의 역사(役事) (The Role of Cosmic Management to Save the People as Seen from the Heavenly Time of the Yi Gua (益卦))

초록

본 고는 정월, 봄의 원기(元氣)가 세상을 창생하는 익괘(益 卦)의 생물지심(生物之心)속에서 인간이 체행해야 할 우주 경영의 역사 (役事)를 사유하였다. 그리하여 익괘의 괘상을 생명의 모식으로 직관하여 생민(生民)의 괘덕을 헤아려 보았다. 손상진하(巽上震下, ䷩)의 익괘의 시공간은 봄의 정령과 그 뜻을 같이한다. 봄은 생명을 표상하며, 생명의 현상은 활동으로 말한다. 진⋅손괘가 속한 동방(東方)은 동방(動方)으로 서 진괘는 우주의 박동이요, 손괘는 우주의 호흡이요, 진괘가 출생하고 손괘가 정결하게 하니, 풍뢰의 움직임은 생명을 진작하고 성장시키는 우주의 산출력인 셈이다. 이처럼 세상을 유익하게 하는 것은 우레와 바 람보다 큰 것이 없기에 풍뢰가 ‘익’이다고 할 때, 이에 깃든 이로움의 본질이란 바로 생명의 존엄한 가치라 할 것이다. 그리하여 본고에서는 천시(天時)와 결부한 익괘의 궁극적 이로움이 생명의 창달이라고 보고, ‘익괘의 시간’을 생시(生時)로 해독하여 ‘익괘의 도’[生道]를 밝히고, 이 로써 육효를 주류(周流)하는 ‘익괘의 덕’[生民]을 사유하여 보았다.
우레와 바람이 세상의 이로움을 상징하는 것은 서로 상박(相薄)하되 상 조(相助), 상익(相益), 상생(相生)하여 합화의 생도를 분출하기 때문이다. 생도는 음에서 양으로 나아가며, 양을 따름을 성(性)이라 한다. 그런즉 익괘의 천시와 합하여 인간이 취할 바란 양의 너그러움에 순응하며 만 물의 삶을 이루어 주는 것이다. 이러한 뜻으로 효사를 살피면, 초구는 솟아오르는 해를 경건히 인도하여 봄 농사를 고르게 하며, 육이는 제천 (祭天)으로 생명의 원천에 보본하고, 육삼과 육사는 인(仁)으로 구휼하 여 백성을 살리고, 구오는 덕으로 백성에게 은혜를 베푼다. 이렇듯 익 도는 소생하는 봄의 천시를 따라서 대지의 생명을 움틔우고, 핍절한 백 성의 삶을 일으켜 살릴 뿐이다. 서로를 이루어 주는 우레와 바람처럼, 생명의 본질로 돌아갈 때, 좌익과 우익을 아우르는 진정한 이로움을 공 익으로 구현할 수 있을 것이다.

영어초록

This paper contemplates the role of cosmic management that humans must perform within the heart of heaven giving birth to all things (生物之 心) of the Yi Gua that revives the world with the vital energy of spring in the first month. The time and space of the Yi Gua of the Xun Gua(巽 卦) above and the Zhen Gua(震卦) below (巽上震下 ䷩) have the same meaning as the spirit of spring. Spring symbolizes life, and the phenomenon of life is expressed as activity.
The East(東方) to which the Zhen Gua and Xun Gua belong is the direction of movement(動方). The Zhen Gua is the pulse of the universe, the Xun Gua is the breathing of the universe, and the Zhen Gua produces all things, and the Xun Gua organizes and purifies all things, so the movement of wind and thunder is the productive power of the universe that promotes and grows life. In this way, “nothing benefits all things more than thunder and wind.” Therefore, when it is said that wind and thunder are ‘benefit’(益), the essence of the benefit implicitly assumed here is the noble value of life. Thus, in this paper, the ultimate benefit of the Yi Gua, which is connected to the time of heaven, is seen as the advancement of life, and was studied as the heavenly time of the Yi Gua is the time of life, its meaning is the Tao of life, and its reality is manifested as saving all things.
First, if we consider the method by which thunder and wind benefit the world, we can see that they are mutually running into, mutually helpful, and mutually saving, and they are mutually beneficial. They are the tao of life that erupts as harmony and unity that save each other. The tao of life progresses from yin to yang, and following yang is called nature. Thus, in accordance with the heavenly time of the Yi Gua, the duty of humans is to comply with the generosity of yang and to save and sustain the lives of all things.
If we examine the specific function and efficaciousness through the yao ci(爻辭), nine at the beginning(初九) reverently guides the rising sun to make the spring crops even, six in the second place(六二) repays the source of life with a sacrifice to heaven, six in the third place(六三) and six in the fourth place(六四) save the people with benevolence, and nine in the fifth place(九五) bestows grace on the people with his own virtue.
In this way, the Tao of Yi Gua follows the celestial timing of spring to bring life to the earth and revive the lives of the people in need. When we return to the essence of life, like the thunder and wind that support each other, we will be able to realize true benefits that embrace both the left and the right as public interest.
