『미암일기를 통해 본 16세기 복식문화 (The Clothing Culture of the 16th Century as Seen Through The Mi-am Diary)

초록

미암일기』는 1567년 10월 1일부터 1577년 5월 13일까지 9년 7개월간에 걸쳐 기록한 유희춘(柳希春, 1513~1577)의 일기이다. 일기는 한 개인이 매일매일의 경험을 기록해 놓은 것으로 일상생활과 깊은 연관관계를 갖고 있어 특정 시대를 살다 간 한 개인의 생활사를 탐구할 수 있는 귀중한 자료로써 가치가 크다. 유희춘을 중심으로 형성된 복식 유통의 양상을 통해 16세기의 복식문화를 새롭게 이해할 수 있는 계기를 마련하고자 하였으며, 그 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 미암일기속 복식 유통 양상을 이해하는 데 가장 중요한 척도가 되는 것은 혈연을 비롯해 지연, 학연, 환연 등 연망이 중요한 역할을 했음을 확인하였다.
둘째, 미암일기에 등장하는 복식 유통 양상은 매매, 하사, 대여, 수수 등의 유통 양상을 통해 복식문화가 형성되었음을 확인하였다.
셋째, 미암일기를 통해 16세기의 복식을 이해하고, 기존의 연구결과를 확장시킬 수 있는 토대를 마련하고자 하였다. 척삼은 가을에서 겨울에 주로 착용하였으므로 여름용 적삼에 국한시킬 수 없다는 사실을 확인하였으며, 방의는 바지와 착용한 것으로 보아 상의에 해당하는 옷임을 확인하였다. 또 미암일기에는 액주름이 등장하지 않는 것으로 보아 액주름의 출토유무에 따라 16세기 전후를 구분하였던 기존 연구 결과를 뒷받침하였다. 또 사모는 관복에만 착용하는 모자가 아니라는 사실은 물론 정을 갖춘 분투혜가 등장함으로써 단순히 덧신에 국한되지 않는다는 사실을 확인하였다. 이외에도 직물을 비롯해 입모, 부채, 빗, 빗접, 낭자 등이 이루어낸 다양한 복식문화를 확인하였다. 이를 토대로 16세기의 복식문화를 이해하고 확장할 수 있는계기가 되길 기대한다.

영어초록

The Mi-am Diary is a journal written by Yu Hee-chun (1513–1577), spanning a period of 9 years and 7 months, from October 1, 1567, to May 13, 1577. As a diary that records a person's daily experiences, it is closely tied to the everyday life of its author, making it an invaluable resource for exploring the life history of an individual who lived in a particular era. Its significance lies in providing a deep insight into the lifestyle and personal history of that time.
The Mi-am Diary also allows us to experience an individual’s daily life through various social networks such as familial ties, regional connections, academic relationships, and political affiliations. Through the circulation of clothing centered around Yu Hee-chun, it offers a new opportunity to understand the clothing culture of the 16th century. The results of this exploration are as follows.




First, the most important measure for understanding the circulation of clothing in The Mi-am Diary is the confirmation that social networks, including familial ties, regional connections, academic relationships, and political affiliations, played a significant role.
Second, the circulation of clothing mentioned in The Mi-am Diary confirms that the clothing culture was formed through various distribution methods, including buying and selling, gifts, lending, and exchange.
Third, the aim was to understand 16th-century clothing through The Mi-am Diary and to establish a foundation for expanding existing research. It was confirmed that the cheoksam was primarily worn from autumn to winter, so it cannot be limited to summer use. Additionally, since the bangui was worn with pants, it was identified as an upper garment.
Furthermore, the absence of aekjurum in The Mi-am Diary supports existing research that distinguishes the period before and after the 16th century based on the presence or absence of aekjurum in excavated garments. Additionally, it was confirmed that the samo is not merely a hat worn with official attire, and the emergence of the formal buntuhye shows that it is not limited to being just an overshoe. In addition, various aspects of clothing culture were identified, including textiles, hats, fans, combs, comb cases, and nangja (pouches). Based on this, it is hoped that there will be opportunities to understand and expand upon the clothing culture of the 16th century.
