스마트 토이 유형별 어포던스 분석- 유아용 코딩교육을 중심으로 - (Affordance Analysis of Each Smart Toy Type - Focusing on the coding education for children -)

초록

과학기술이 빠르게 변화하고 있는 시대에 선진국에서는 코딩 교육의 중요성을 인식하고 미래형인재를 양성하기 위해 많은노력을 기우리고 있다. 미국의 경우 버락 오바마 대통령의 ‘모든 이에게 컴퓨터 과학을(Computer Science for All)’이라는슬로건을 중심으로 코딩 교육에 적극투자를 하고 있고, 핀란드와 영국은 4-5세의 유아들이 코딩을 배우며 미래를 준비하고 있다.2) 하지만 IT강국인 우리나라의 경우는 최근에서야 코딩 교육의 중요성을 인식하고 지난 2015년에서야 개정된 교과과정에 따라 코딩교육을 의무화하고 있다. 이에 유아를 대상으로 한 코딩교육에 대한 관심도가 높아짐에 따라 아이들에게 새로운 언어와 사고법으로 놀면서 코딩 개념을 가르치는 다양한 유아 교구들이 등장하고 있다. 그 중에서 스마트기능이탑재된 토이형태의 교구들이 학부모들에게 큰 관심을 받고 있다. 하지만 타 교구에 비해 스마트 토이는 고가의 교구인데다흥미위주로만 만들어진 교구들이 많아 문제해결 능력과 사고력을 증대시키는 요소와 유아들의 어포던스가 잘 반영된 교구에 대한 연구가 미흡한 상황이다. 따라서 본 논문은 코딩교육을 위한 스마트토이를 중심으로 유형을 분류하고 국내 인터넷에서 판매순위가 높은 스마트 토이를 대상으로 어포던스 요소별로 사례 분석하고 코딩 교육이 나아가야할 방향을 제시하였다. 그 결과, 감각적 어포던스는 높은 수치를 보였으며 타 과목에 비해 자신이 직접 만든 장남감이라는 인식이 강해 생명력을 느끼며 흥미를 갖는 것으로 판단된다. 반면, 물리적 어포던스는 낮은 수치를 보였는데 이는 직접 조립하고 연결하는 방식에 대한 흥미는 상대적으로 타 장남감에 비해 흥미도가 떨어지는 것을 유추할 수 있다.

영어초록

In the era that the scientific technology is changing quickly, advanced countries are making many efforts to recognize the importance of the coding education and train future talents. In the US, president Barack Obama is actively investing in the coding education focusing on the slogan ‘computer science for all’, and in Finland and England, children at the age of 4~5 are preparing for their future as learning the coding. However, South Korea, the IT power, recently recognized the importance of coding education and made the coding education mandatory through the revised curriculum in 2015. Hereupon, various children teaching tools are appearing which teach the coding concept with the new language and thinking method as the concern for the coding education targeting children is getting higher. Toy-type teaching tools equipped with the smart function among them are attracting big attention from parents. However, since most smart toys are expensive and only focused on the interest compared with other teaching tools, they lack the elements which cultivate the problem-solving skill and thinking skills. The study on the teaching tool well reflecting the children’s affordance is poor now. Therefore, this paper classified into several types focusing on the smart toy for coding education, analyzed cases depending on each affordance element targeting the smart toys of which sale ranking was high on the domestic internet, and suggest a direction in which the coding education should proceed. As a result, the sensuous affordance showed a high figure and it was judged that if children felt the vitality of the toy friend they made in person, they had interest compared with other subjects. On the other hand, the physical affordance showed a low figure; it was analogized that the interest in a way of assembling and connecting in person was less than the interest in other toys. The coding education should focus on improving the creativity and the problem-solving skill not the answer as changing from explaining to experiencing. And it is possible to approach deeply to the matter in which children will become interested continually beyond the one-shot learning focusing on the episode.
