조선시대 궁중검무의 유형별 고찰(考察) (A Study on the Styles of the Geommu at Court in the Joseon Dynasty)

초록

본 연구는 현행 각 지역 향제교방검무 형성에 영향을 끼친 조선시대 궁중검무의 유
형별 공연양상을 궁중연향을 기록한 각종 의궤(『進宴儀軌』,『進饌儀軌』,『進爵儀軌
』)와 『정재무도홀기(呈才舞圖笏記)』 등의 문헌사료를 중심으로 고찰(考察)하는데
그 목적이 있다. 조선시대 각종 의궤와 『정재무도홀기(呈才舞圖笏記)』에 기록된 궁
중검무의 유형은 검기무(검무), 첨수무, 공막무로 나타나고 그 내용을 정리하면 다음
과 같다.
첫째, 의궤의 악장의 기록을 통해 검기무와 공막무의 유래를 중국 진나라 말기 홍
문연의 잔치에서 벌어진 고사에서 인용하고 있고 첨수무는 속칭 엽무라 불리우던 춤
인데 영종조에 첨수무로 개칭되었음을 알 수 있다.또한 검기무는 여기(女妓)에 의해,
첨수무는 여기 및 무동(舞童)에 의해 공막무는 무동에 의해 2개의 검기(劍器)를 들
고 추는 춤으로 나타난다. 또한 다른 궁중정재와 달리 공연 시 창사(唱詞)를 부르지
않는 형태로 공연하였다.
둘째, 의궤의 공령에 기록된 궁중검무 복식과 권수도식의 정재도 및 복식도를 통하
여 살펴본 궁중검무의 유형 중 검기무(검무)와 공막무의 복식은 전복(戰服)의 형태를
띠며 첨수무 역시 소매가 좁은 형태의 상의(狹袖)와 쾌자형태의 옷인 반비의(半臂
衣)와 전대를 띠었음을 알 수 있다.
셋째, 의궤에 나타난 공령의 기록(各差備)과 정재도 및 정재무도홀기의 기록을 통
해 살펴본 궁중검무는 유형별로 2, 4, 8명에 의해 두명씩 짝을 이루어 각각 검 두 개
를 들고 추어졌음이 나타난다.
넷째, 『정재무도홀기』의 기록에 나타난 궁중검무의 유형별 반주음악은 검기무와 공
막무는 무령지곡을 연주하고 첨수무는 만천춘지곡을 반주음악으로 사용하고 연주시
모두 향당교주 방식으로 연주한다.
다섯째, 『정재무도홀기』의 기록에 나타난 춤의 진행방식에 있어 검기무는 춤을 추
기 전에 악사가 검기를 가져다 놓고 좌우로 나가면 춤이 시작되고, 첨수무와 공막무는 춤을 추다가 춤의 중간에 악사가 검기를 가져다 놓고 좌우로 나가는 형식을 띠고 있
다.
여섯째,『정재무도홀기』의 기록에 나타난 궁중검무의 유형중 검기무에 사용된 춤동
작은 무작(舞作), 상대무진 (相對舞進), 상대무퇴(相對舞退), 환립(換笠), 혹배혹
면이무(或背或面而舞), 상대궤무(相對跪舞), 농검(弄劍), 집검(執劍), 번표이농수
검무(翻飄而弄袖劍舞), 기립(起立), 무작(舞作), 각용재(各用才), 연귀소(鷰歸
巢), 연풍대(筵風擡), 무진(舞進), 무퇴(舞退) 등으로 다채롭게 나타나고 첨수무와
공막무는 동일한 춤사위로 구성되어 있고 검기무에 나타나지 않는 회선이무(回旋而
舞)의 춤동작이 나타나며 환립(換笠), 각용재(各用才) 등의 춤동작은 나타나지 않는
다.

영어초록

This study aims at inquiring into aspects of performing each style of geommu(sword
dance) performed at court in the Joseon dynasty, which influenced on taking shape of
regional geommu performed at gyobang(office for training the entertaining women) in each
province, around historical documents such as Jeongjaemudoholgi(record for court dance) and
several uigwes(record for royal banquet). The styles of geommu at court revealed in the
above documents are named as geomgimu(geommu), cheomsumu and gongmakmu, and the
summery of the investigation on them is as follows:
Firstly, through the record of uigwe, the origin of the geomgimu and the gongmakmu
is cited from an old story of the banquet at Hongmen in the late period of the Qin dynasty
of China. And the cheomsumu, popularly called yeopmu, was renamed as it is during the
reign of King Yeonjong, in the late period of the Joseon dynasty. In addition, the
geomgimu was performed by yeoggi(entertaining women), the cheomsumu, by yeoggi and
mudong(boy dancer), and the gongmakmu, by mudong, with two pieces of sword prop per
person. They were also performed without changsa(a kind of narration or a song sung in
Chinese before the dance), which was different from other kinds of court dance.
Secondly, among the styles of geommu at court investigated through the uigwe's formal
regulation on the costume of court geommu and its graphic records on the formation and
the costume of court dance, both costumes of the geomgimu(geommu) and the gongmakmu
carried the style of jeonbok(a kind of outer tunic) and also that of the cheomsumu,
narrow-sleeved upper garment, banbiui(a kind of jeonbok) and jeondae(wide belt).
Thirdly, from the regulation of uigwe and the record of Jeongjaemudoholgi, each
geommu performed at court was danced by double numbered dancers such as two, four,
and eight dancers according to the styles. And it is also found that they danced carrying
two sword props, that is, one in each hand.
Fourthly, the accompanying music to each style of court geommu found in the record of
Jeongjaemudoholgi is as follows: the geomgimu and the gongmakmu were accompanied by
muryeongjigok(sonorous music used for military exercises or the king's procession) and the
cheomsumu, by mancheonchunjigok(a kind of hyangdanggyoju). And all of them were
played in the way of hyangdanggyoju(playing Korean and Chinese musical instruments by
turns).
Fifthly, when it comes to the progression of dance revealed in the record of
Jeonjaemudoholgi, the geomgimu began after musicians put the sword props on the dancing
area and retreated to the right and left. On the other hand, the props of the cheomsumu
and the gongmakmu were put in the middle of dance by musicians.
Sixthly, among styles of geommu at court appeared in the record of Jeongaemudoholgi,
the geomgimu has various dance movements named as follows: mujak; sangdaemujin;
sangdaemutoe; whanlip; hokbaehokmyeonimu; sandaegwemu; nonggeom; jipgeom;
beonpyoinongsugeommu; girip; mujak; gakyongjae; yeonguiso; yeonpungdae; mujin; mutoe
etc. The cheomsumu and the gongmakmu have the same dance vocabularies and additional
one such as hoeseonimu which is not appeared in the geomgimu. And the two excluded
some vocabularies such as whanlip and gakyongjae etc.
