한국고전번역학 연구의 현황과 과제-『고전번역연구』 와 『민족문화』 분석을 중심으로- (The Current Status and Tasks of Translation Studies of Korean Classics -Focusing on the Analysis of Journal of Translation of Korean Classics and Journal of Korean Classics-)

초록

본고는 한국고전번역학의 현황을 살펴보고 앞으로의 과제를 도출하기 위하여 작성되었다. 한국고전에 대한 번역은 오래전부터 지속되었으나, 이에 대하여 본격적인 학문적 탐구는 2007년 한국고전번역원의 출범과 2009년 한국고전번역학회의 창립이 주요한 계기가 되었다. 이에 본고에서는 한국고전번역학회와 한국고전번역원에서 발간하는 학술지인 『고전번역연구』와 『민족문화』에 수록된 논문의 분석을 통하여 연구의 현황을 분석하였다. 그간 번역학 분야에서는 주로 서양이론의 분류체계를 바탕으로 연구의 경향성을 살펴보았으나, 본고에서는 현재 한국고전번역 현장의 상황을 반영한 새로운 분류방식을 적용하였다.
『고전번역연구』에는 비논문의 비중이 많았고 『민족문화』에는 한국고전번역학 관련 논문이 적었다. 분석의 대상이 된 한국고전번역학 관련 논문은 총72편인데, 원전정리와 문학번역에 대한 비중이 높았고, 다음으로 번역이론, 역사문헌번역, 전문분야번역 순으로 관심도가 높았다. 이는 한국고전번역원 사업의 구성 체계에 많은 영향을 받은 것으로 보인다. 그리고 대부분의 논문은 학술대회에서 기획주제로 발표되었던 것으로 연구자의 개별 연구는 매우 미흡하다.
향후 한국고전번역학의 발전을 위해서는, 번역학 일반 이론의 수용에 보다 적극적인 자세를 가져야 할 것이며, 역자양성 뿐 아니라 연구자 양성도 병행하는 교육 체계를 확립해야 할 것이다. 그리고 전문 연구자 집단이 생길 수 있도록 적극적인 지원방안을 마련해야 할 것이다. 또한 학문으로의 위상 강화를 위해서는 한국고전번역학의 성격규정과 학술연구분야에서의 자리매김이 필요할 것이다.

영어초록

This paper aimed to draw the future tasks after examining the current status of Translation studies of Korean classics. Even though the translation of Korean classics has been continued for a long time, the establishment of the Institute for the Translation of Korean Classics(韓國古典飜譯院) in 2007 and the Society for the Translation of the Korean Classics(韓國古典飜譯學會) in 2009 was the main opportunity for the academic research in earnest. Thus, this paper analyzed the current status of researches by analyzing theses contained in Journal of Translation of Korean Classics and Journal of Korean Classics, journals published by the Society for the Translation of the Korean Classics and the Institute for the Translation of Korean Classics. So far, in the area of translation studies, the tendency of researches was mainly examined based on the classification system of Western theories. However, this paper applied a new classification method reflecting the current condition of translation site of Korean classics.
Journal of Translation of Korean Classics showed the high percentage of non-theses while Journal of Korean Classics included less theses related to translation studies of Korean classics. Targeting total 72 theses related to translation studies of Korean classics, the percentage of original arrangement and literature translation was high, which was followed by translation theory, translation of historical literature, and translation of specialized area in order. It might be much influenced by the project composition system of the Institute for the Translation of Korean Classics. And most of the theses were presented under the special themes of symposiums while individual researches were very insufficient.
For the future development of translation studies of Korean classics, it would be necessary to actively accept general theories of translation studies, and also to establish the educational system to cultivate not only translators, but also researchers. In order to form specialized researcher groups, more active supporting measures should be established. Also, for reinforcing its status as studies, it would be necessary to define the characters of translation studies of Korean classics, and to be settled down in the academic research area.
