초록

예수 그리스도는 우리의 구세주인 동시에 선교에 있어서 가장 중요한 모델이다. 성경은 선교적 문서이며, 하나님의 선교의 산물이다. 이러한 전제 하에 이 논문에서는 선교적 해석학의 원리에 따라 첫번째 크리스마스 속에 내포된 선교적 함의를 탐구하여, 선교를 준비하여 현장에 진입하는 선교사의 태도와 모습이 어떠해야 할 것인가에 대한 선교적 지침을 발견하고자 이 논문을 시작하였다.
선교적 해석학(missional hermeneutics)은 성경이 하나님의 선교의 산물임을 인식하는 것을 전제로 하는 성경 읽기이다. ‘하나님의 선교’는 구약시대 여러 가지 양태로 나타났다. 선지자들을 통하여, 출애굽과 같은 사건을 통하여, 왕들을 통하여, 무명의 신실한 종들을 통하여, 심지어는 이스라엘이 망하고 유다가 망하는 사건을 통해서 ‘하나님의 선교’가 계시되었다. 그러나 ‘하나님의 선교’가 가장 잘 나타난 사건은 예수의 파송 사건이다.
그런데 선교의 모델이신 예수 그리스도가 선교지에 진입하실 때 어떤 모습으로 시작하셨는가? 아기의 모습으로 시작하셨다. 이것이 선교적으로 어떤 의미를 지니는가? 선교사 예수가 선교 현장인 세상으로 들어올 때 아기의 모습으로 들어오신 사실 속에 담긴 선교적 함의를 정리해 본다. ① 강한 자의 모습이 아니라 약한 자의 모습으로, ② 가르치는 자가 아니라 학습하는 자의 모습으로, ③ 사람들을 긴장시키는 복수자나 심판자의 모습이 아니라 사람들을 무장해제시키는 평화스럽고 사랑스러운 모습으로 선교 현장에 진입했다는 사실이다. 이러한 함의가 선교를 시작하려는 이들에게 구체적으로 어떤 지혜와 지침을 주는가?선교 사역을 시작할 때 선교사가 가져야 할 중요한 태도와 모습은 동일시(Identifying)이다. 선교란 지리적, 문화적, 종교적 경계선을 넘어 가까이 다가가 적절한 현장화를 통하여 복음을 전하는 사역이다. 그러기 위해서 우선적으로 해야 할 일이 가능한 현지인들 가운데 살면서 그들과 자신을 동일시하는 삶을 사는 것이다. 같은 음식을 먹고, 같은 옷을 입고, 같은 언어를 사용하며, 그들의 희노애락에 공감할 줄 아는 생활 양식을 취하는 것이다. 그래야 그 사회에 받아들여지는 존재가 되며, 받아들여져야 그들에게 복음을 전할 수가 있는 것이다. 이 점에 있어서 예수가 아기의 모습으로 선교 현장에 진입하여 위험을 무릅쓰고 함께 거주하기 시작함으로 선교 사역을 시작하셨다는 사실은 선교지에 들어가는 선교사들의 모습이 어떠해야 함을 가르쳐 주는 중요한 지침을 제공해 준다.
두 번째 중요한 함의는 학습자로 사역을 시작하셨다는 사실이다. 그분은 언어나 문화에 대한 지식을 갖고 태어나시지 않았다는 것이다. 이런 점에서 그분은 평범한 어린이였다. 그분은 부모에게 말을 배웠으며, 또래들로부터 놀이를 배웠다. 아버지 요셉에게 목수일을 배웠으며, 그 당시 모든 젊은이들이 했던 똑같은 방법으로 성경 공부를 하고 예배를 드렸다. 아기의 모습으로 선교지에 진입하여 상당히 긴 기간을 학습자로 본격적인 선교 사역을 준비하신 예수의 모습은 오늘날 선교 사역에 중요한 선교적 함의를 제공해 준다.
세 번째 중요한 함의는 선교 사역의 본질이다. 아기는 공격하지 않는다. 비난하지도 않는다. 정죄하지도 않는다. 그가 한 ‘아기’의 모습으로 오신 이유는 범죄한 우리 인간들에게 무서운 고발자가 아닌 은혜와 진리와 구원으로 인식되기를 원하셨기 때문이다. 바로 여기에 중요한 선교적 함의가 있다. 선교 사역의 본질은 용서의 은혜와 진리와 구원의 소망을 전하는 것이다. 고발, 고소, 비난, 정죄가 아니다. 이 사실을 명심한다면, 선교사가 선교지에 진입할 때 아기 예수의 모습을 마음에 간직하고 그 모습 속에 감추어진 선교적 본질을 깊이 생각하며 본질을 구현하는 선교 사역을 시작해야 할 것이다.
이상과 같이 첫번째 크리스마스에 말 구유에 태어나신 아기 예수의 모습을 선교적 관점에서 생각해 볼 때 놀라운 선교적 함의와 지혜가 담겨 있음을 발견할 수 있다. 선교사가 선교 현장에 처음으로 들어갈 때 언제 어떤 모습으로 들어가서, 주로 누구와 함께 하며, 무슨 사역을 할 것인가를 고민하게 된다. 즉 선교의 입구 전략을 준비하게 된다. 이 때 첫번째 크리스마스 속에 담긴 선교적 함의는 선교의 입구 전략에 아주 유익한 지혜와 통찰을 제공해 준다.
속담에 “시작이 반이다.”라는 말이 있다. 선교 사역을 시작할 때 어떻게 시작하느냐에 따라서 향후 선교의 방향과 특성이 좌우된다. 선교적 해석학에 따라서 해석되고 탐구된 첫번째 크리스마스는 우리가 선교지에서 어떤 모습으로 사역을 시작하는 것이 하나님의 선교의 본질을 드러나게 하는지를 가르쳐 주는 모범이다. 예수 그리스도는 우리의 구원자인 동시에 우리의 선교의 모범이시기 때문이다.

영어초록

Jesus Christ is our Savior and most importantly, the model for missions. The Bible is the missional literatures and the product of Missio Dei(God’s Mission). Taking this into consideration, by the principle of the missional hermeneutics, this study explores the concealed implications of the first Christmas. It is expected to supply the wisdom and the guidelines for those who are preparing to enter the mission field for the Glory of God.
Missional hermeneutics is reading the Bible in a way of perceiving that Bible is the product of God’s mission. God’s mission is portrayed in various ways in the Old Testament. Through prophets, events like exodus, through kings and nameless ministers, and even through the occasions of Israel and Judea coming to ruins, God’s mission was revealed. However, God’s mission is represented best in the example of Jesus Christ.
The fact that the missionary Jesus entered the world as the baby when He began to work as the missionary in the mission field contains several missional implications. Finding them in the first Christmas, organizing as follows: he entered the mission field as the mode of ① not a strong man, but a weak baby, ② not a learned but a learning and growing one ③ not a avenger or judge, but a peaceful and lovely baby who disarms people. What kind of wisdom and guidelines do these meanings concretely supply for those who are preparing to devote themselves to missions?When starting missional ministry, the missionary must act without discrimination. The ministry of spreading the gospel is performed through a proper contextualization which crosses over the geographical, cultural, and religious boundaries. In order to do this, one must first live among the locals and associate as much of the differences as possible. This is accomplished by eating their food, wearing their clothes, using their language, and enjoying their joys and pains. One would then be accepted into society. It is only then that one would be able to spread the gospel to the locals. By taking into consideration that Jesus Christ entered into this world on the first Christmas in the form of a very fragile baby, missionaries should understand how one should enter the mission field and should know what to do first among local people by looking at the examples offered by the Bible.
The second important aspect is the Jesus Christ started his missional ministry as an academic. He did not know the languages or the cultures when He was born. In this aspect, He was an ordinary child. He learned the language from His parents and learned how to play amongst his peers. He had learned carpentry from his father, Joseph, and, like any other youths, he studied the Bible and attended worships. Jesus, having entered into the mission field as a child, academically prepared himself extensively and offers us the missional principles of today’s mission.
The third important aspect is the essence of missional ministry. A child does not attack, criticize, or judge. The reason why Jesus Christ came to us as a child is not to threaten to pass judgment, but to accept Him as our grace, truth, and salvation. This is where the important aspect of mission lies. The essence of missional ministry is to spread the grace and truth of forgiveness and the hope of salvation. It is not to judge, blame, and criticize. Having accepted this, the missionary entering the mission field must start the ministry treasuring the life of the baby Jesus and regarding the hidden aspects of the essence of mission.
As previously mentioned, the missional standpoint of the first Christmas when the baby Jesus was born in the manger offers us the wonderful true meaning and wisdom of the essence of mission. When a missionary first enters the mission field, the missionary worries about how or in what form he or she must start, with whom he or she must spend time with, and what kind of ministry would be adequate for that particular location. Therefore, one devises a plan on the manner of entrance. The essence of mission revealed in the first Christmas offers useful wisdom and insight for initially entering the mission field.
There is a proverb, ‘Well begun is half done.” How a mission starts often determines the destinations and characteristics of the missions afterwards. The meaning of the Birth of Jesus Christ interpreted by a missional hermeneutics supplies us the lessons and guidelines on how to start the missions or the pastoral cares. Jesus Christ is not only the Savior but also the model for our missions.
