백도기의 「청동의 뱀」에 나타난 주체 인식의 과정 고찰 (On the Subject-Perception Process Depicted in Paik Dogi's The Bronze Snake)

초록

This paper deals with the process in which a pastor who makes
an inner journey in search of the meaning of love comes to perceive
his self. The reason why the researcher takes notice of this pastor is
that he not only functions as a distorted mirror reflecting those of us who live in this age of doubt, but he also leads us to a full
awareness of "we" community after overcoming the contrite heart of
"I" conscience.
From an observer's standpoint, the first-person narrator "I" throws
a glance at varied social problems such as good and bad, poor
working conditions, and abortion policies, experiencing both
alienation and separation so as to seek for the true "love." And this
is the very process of perceiving one's self. In the quest of inner
truth, the narrator feels transferred by means of 'dreams' where he
becomes aware of a 'death wish.' He stands upright as a true self
after experiencing the 'flower petals' and 'falling snow flakes.' "I" the
subjectivity journeys through all these steps of perception in order to
experience the reality world, which is symbolized by the biblical
snake, that is, 'the bronze snake.' It is a signified representing our
toward-object desire as well as the sign that we should look at to go
beyond the structural and the formal evil. It also relates to a signifier,
that is, the meaning of resurrection as captured in the semantic
network that the self endeavors to create throughout the work.
