초록

Woman’s status in the society has been continuously rising up. Even a view appears that the girls of these days has grown up under the all-time best environment gains strong support with the analysis as “The present day to enjoy the benefit on women´s liberation movement” when indicating this epoch of ours. In these days, mentioning human rights or values of a woman is even enough to be seen itself as regression.
However, technically speaking, woman’s social position at this moment is still uncomfortable and unstable. It is because women has become summoned to the world of patriarchy by the culture of consumerism and commercialism appearing with development of the social economy, although it is undeniable that woman’s position and ability has been also revaluated in a positive way as long as the society has been developed under the banner of modernization. Of course, we don’t describe a woman as a subordinate of a man openly. Nevertheless, it is so true that women or their bodies became degraded as commercial products, and this trends accelerate social domination and control over women, that is to say a ‘dependency phenomenon’. In this aspect, it can be said that women of this era become ‘the other’ even more competitively, more officially, and more strategically than the ones of the past patriarchal time. Therefore, discussing women’s value and existence is not regression but extension of consideration and a part of essential questioning on the unsolved issue yet.
The works of Zhang, Ai-ling, in this regard, was good to think. Most of her works have small plots of daily affairs such as couple’s love or ordinary people’s lives, and this is what makes her texts interesting. It is because these common things are inverted to metaphysical values like ‘ideal’ or ‘nationality’ and the Logos-centered ideas to define men and women, high and low, right and wrong become meaningless in her novels.
Red Rose Whies Rose, one of Zhang, Ai-ling’s works, covers an epic story of one woman in a new way who were in conflict with men in her surroundings. This novel shows how patriarchy as men’s narration has entangled in modern society and how women’s fantasy to dig into the crack has been connected to postcolonial action. This study will be meaningful in a way to provide a deeper connoisseurship about women and their lives
