단절과 소외 극복을 위한 교육목회의 방안: Parekr Palmer의 진리의 공동체를 중심으로 (Methods of Educational Ministry for the Recovery of Disconnection and Alienation: Parker Palmer’s the Community of Truth)

본 논문의 목적은 진리의 공동체의 세움으로 오늘의 단절되고 소외된 교육의 영성을 회복할 수 있다고 본다. 오늘의 교육목회 현장과 한국 교육현장을 지배하는 입시위주의 지적 교육은 행동, 실천, 주관성, 타자와의 상호작용을 무시한 채 사고, 이론, 객관성, 자아 등 이원론적 인식론에 치우치고 있다. 공동체의 영성을 회복하는 교육은 지성, 감성, 영성에 입각한 온전한 교육으로 발돋움이다. 이에 대해 팔머는 공동체의 영성을 회복하기 위해 교육은 인식의 객관론 신화를 벗어버리고 진리의 공동체를 실행할 것을 제안한다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 단절과 소외를 극복하는 진리의 공동체를 개발하는 교육방법을 고찰하려한다. 연구의 과정은 공동체의 단절과 개인의 소외를 일으키는 인식의 객관론 신화의 요소들을 분석하고, 팔머가 제시하는 공동체 안의 인식, 가르침과 배움의 가능성을 살핀다. 진리의 공동체를 이루는 단계는 교육개혁(로사팍스)과 영성의 운동(존 웨슬리)의 모델을 연결한다. 그리고 실천방법의 요소를 제시하고 가능한 커리큘럼을 개발한다.

영어초록

The purpose of this paper is to explore the methods for the recovery of disconnection and alienation in the educational ministry. It will focus mainly on Parker Palmer’s method of community of truth. The core problem in the Korean education system today is the emphasis of "banking education" for college entrance. This form of education causes inhuman competition and the cultivation of disconnection and alienation among the education community. This limited knowledge-oriented standard of education rely on generalization, objectivism, individualism, dual epistemology and the lack of critical thinking. Palmer emphasizes that the spiritual and communal aspects of education will lead to the recovery of community and will provide mind, emotion, spirituality in holistic education. He proposes to form a community of truth in order to get off the “myth of objectivism”, which depends on a radical separation of the knower and the known.”Four main points are outlined when developing a community of truth for the recovery of disconnection and alienation in educational ministry. First, we analyze the elements of myth of objectivism to help understand the cause of disconnection in communal life and alienation of individual. Second, we examine the possibilities of knowing, teaching and learning in community of truth. Third, we establish a process for the community of truth by examining and reflecting on the stories of Rosa Parks’ transformation of education and John Wesley’s spiritual movement. Finally, we present practical methods and a curriculum model for the recovery of disconnection and alienation in educational ministry.
