초록

이 연구는 한문으로 간행된 비소설방각본에 대해 기존의 연구에서 다소 부족한 면이 있는 서지적 고찰을 목적으로 작성되었다. 연구대상인 한문방각본은 방각본 가운데 그 서사 문자가 한글이 아닌 ‘漢文’인 것을 말한다. 다만 본고에서는 한문방각본 가운데 많은 분량을 차지하고 있는 소설류는 연구대상에서 제외하였다.
먼저 방각본의 정의와 특징에 대한 기존의 논의 가운데 몇 가지 주요 쟁점을 검토해보았다. 우선 방각본에 대한 서지학적 논의를 통하여 정의를 재고하였다. 방각본의 정의는 민간의 범주와 상업성의 성격을 고려하여 “민간이 영리를 목적으로 간행한 목판본 또는 고활자본”을 일컫는 것으로 수정할 필요가 있음을 밝혔다. 그리고 방각본의 특징을 살펴본 후 한문방각본의 내용과 특징, 형태서지적 특징, 간행의 유형 등을 다루었다.
내용적 특징과 형태서지적 분석, 간행의 유형은 방각본의 특징을 서지학적 관점에서 고찰한 것이다. 특히 간행의 유형에서는 국내판본의 전승, 국외판의 번각, 새로운 간행으로 구분하여 해당 사례를 제시함으로써 국내 전존하고 있는 한문방각본의 원류를 파악하기 위한 방법론을 제시하였다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to conduct bibliographical consideration on commercially woodblock-printed books of nonfiction written with chinese characters, centered on what has been insufficiently coped with in previous researches. The subject, commercially woodblock-printed books with Chinese characters, indicates the ones written with not Korean but Chinese characters, but fiction occupying much of the commercially woodblock-printed books with Chinese characters is not included in this study.
The author examined several main issues among the existing discussions on the definition and characteristics of commercially woodblock-printed books. First, the definition was reconsidered through bibliographical discussion on commercially woodblock-printed books; the author clarified that the definition of commercially woodblock-printed books should be adjusted to be "block books or old movable-type books that were published on the purpose of profit by common people," by consideration of the scope of common people and characteristics of commercial viability. After characteristics of commercially woodblock-printed books were established, contents and characteristics, material bibliographical characteristics, and types of publication of commercially woodblock-printed books with Chinese characters were coped with.
Content characteristics, material bibliographical analysis, and types of publication indicate that the characteristics of commercially woodblock-printed books were considered from bibliographical aspect. As for types of publication, in particular, the author presented methodology to understand the origins of the commercially woodblock-printed books with Chinese characters in Korea by dividing into transmission of domestic printed books, reprinting of foreign printed books, and new publication and providing relevant cases respectively.
