중부지방 구석기공작의 지역성 고찰 (Regionality of the Paleolithic Industry in Central Korea)

초록

중부지방의 구석기 유적을 수계망에 따라 영동하천, 북한강, 남한강, 한강본류, 임진-한탄강, 안성천의 6개 권역으로 구분한 후, 기존 연구 가설을 기반으로 각 권역 내 석기공작의 전개와 층서 편년을 파악하고, 비교를 실시하여 중부지방 구석기공작의 지역성을 고찰하였다.
그 결과, 최하층인 C퇴적층에서 구석기시대의 시작은 권역간 시간적 차이가 있으며, 대형석기인 주먹도끼류는 영동하천권역, 북한강권역, 한강본류권역, 임진-한탄강권역, 찍개류는 남한강권역에 집중된다. 특히 임진-한탄강권역과 한강본류권역의 주먹도끼류는 타 권역에 비해 기술형태적으로 여러 형식이 존재하며 일부 숙련된 공정이 나타난다. 이밖에 임진-한탄강권역과 북한강권역에서는 대하천과 지류하천에 위치하는 유적간 석기공작의 차이가 보인다. B2퇴적층에서는 권역간 대형 및 소형 석기의 점유에서 차이가 있다. 그리고 임진-한탄강권역과 한강본류권역에서는 주먹도끼류의 기술 변용이 관찰되며, 밀개는 남한강권역의 지류와 북한강권역, 영동하천권역, 안성천권역의 일부 유적에 집중된다. B1퇴적층에서는 대형석기가 감소하고 소형석기가 급증하지만, 북한강권역에서는 그 변화가 거의 없고, 영동하천권역과 안성천권역에서는 대형석기의 감소가 불분명하다. 대형석기 중 주먹도끼류는 안성천권역, 북한강권역, 영동하천권역의 지류하천에 위치하는 일부 유적에만 집중된다. 돌날 및 좀돌날 기법은 안성천권역과 영동하천권역을 제외한 모든 권역에서 순차적으로 나타난다. 돌날 기법의 경우 권역별 출현 시기의 차이가 큰 편이나 좀돌날 기법은 시기 차이가 적다. 또한 석영계 소형석기는 영동하천권역과 안성천권역을 제외하고는 후반부에 소형화되고 있다. 최상층인 A퇴적층에서는 안성천권역을 제외하면 석영계 소형석기의 소형화가 뚜렷하며, B1퇴적층에서 출현한 돌날 및 좀돌날 기법은 권역에 따라 유지되지만 한강본류권역에서는 돌날 기법이 보이지 않으며, 영동하천권역에서는 좀돌날 기법이 뒤늦게 나타난다. 한편 신석기시대까지 연속되는 화살촉, 석부 등의 새로운 석기가 영동하천권역과 임진-한탄강권역을 중심으로 확인된다.
이러한 시공간적인 지역성의 차이는 주로 석기제작에 이용하는 돌감의 선별과 취득, 유적의 기능 등에 따른 것으로 볼 수 있으며, 동일 권역 내에서도 석기공작의 차이가 관찰되므로 구석기시대의 석기공작을 단순히 이해하는 것은 지양해야 한다.

영어초록

In order to understand regionality of the Paleolithic industry in Central Korea, it was divided into 6 areas mainly in the river system. After analyzing the development of the stone industry and stratigraphic chronology by area, the spatiotemporal regionality was examined through comparison.
As a result, the beginning of the Paleolithic in the lowest C layer has a regional time difference. The hand-axes classified as large tools are concentrated in the river area of Youngdong, the Bukhan river area, the main stream of Han river area, the Imjin-hantan river area. The chopper-chopping tools are concentrated in the Namhan river area. In particular, the morphological technique of hand-axes in the Imjin-hantan river area and main stream of Han river area has many types and skillful process than other areas. In addition, the Imjin-hantan river area and the Bukhan river area show differences in stone industry between the sites of main stream and the branch of stream.
In the B2 layer, there is a difference in the occupancy of large and small tools between the areas. The technical transfiguration of hand-axes is observed in the Imjin-hantan river area and main stream of Han river area. End-scrapers are concentrated in the sites of the river area of Youngdong, the Anseongcheon area, the Bukhan river area and the branch of Namhan river area.
In the B1 layer, the large tools are decreasing and small tools are increasing rapidly. However, there is little change in the Bukhan river area and decline of large tools is unclear in the river area of Youngdong and the Anseongcheon area. The hand-axes are concentrated in the some sites of the Anseongcheon area, the river area of Youngdong and the Bukhan river area. The blade and micro-blade technique appear sequentially in all areas except Anseongcheon area and river area of Youngdong. In the case of blade technique, there is a very difference in appearance by region. But the case of micro-blade technique, there is a little difference in appearance by region. Also, quartz-quartzite small tools have been miniaturized in the latter period except the river area of Youngdong and the Anseongcheon area.
In the A layer, which is the top layer, except for the Anseongcheon area, quartz-quartzite small tools are miniaturized obviously. In the B1 layer, the blade and micro-blade technique are maintained according to the area, but the blade technique is cut off in the main stream of Han river area and the micro-blade technique is appearance in the river area of Youngdong. Meanwhile, new tools such as arrowheads and stone axes continuing to the Neolithic Age are confirmed in the river area of Youngdong and the Imjin-hantan river area.
This difference in spatiotemporal regionality can be attributed to the selection and acquisition of raw materials used in stone tools making and the function of the sites. However, differences in the stone industry are also observed within the same area, it should be avoided to simply understand the stone Industry from the Paleolithic.
