6･25전쟁과 미 공군의 항공지도 제작과 활용 (The Korean War and Producing and Utilizing Aeronautical Chart of the US Air Force)

초록

제2차 세계대전 이후 냉전체제에서 광범위한 국제전쟁으로 발발한 6･25전쟁에 미국은 개전초기 참전하였다. 미 지상군의 참전에 앞서 미 공군은 6월 26일부터 참전하여 항공작전을 수행했다. 6･25전쟁에 참전한 미 공군은 전략작전을 담당한 미 극동공군과 전술작전을 담당한 미 5공군의 항공작전 등을 수행했다. 이러한 미 공군의 항공작전에 있어 전력의 우세와 상관없이 항공작전의 전과 및 평가는 큰 차이가 있었다.
전쟁에 참전하는 미 공군은 한반도에 대한 항공정보에 있어 매우 제약된 상태였다. 기상정보뿐만 아니라 항공작전의 목표물에 대한 정확한 정보가 제한된 점도 큰 원인이었다. 이는 미 공군이 긴급하게 작성한 항공지도가 일제하 군사지도에 바탕하여 일부 항공정보를 기록하였기 때문에 발생했다. 부정확한 항공정보를 포함한 항공지도를 활용한 항공작전은 명확한 전과를 거두기 어려웠다. 기존의 항공기에서 제트전투기로 항공전력이 전환되면서 제트전투기 운용에 필요한 각종 항공정보가 포함된 항공지도를 필요로 했다. 이를 해결하기 위해 미 공군은 다양한 항공정보 수집을 위해 항공정찰부대를 전쟁에 투입하고, 항공지도정보서비스를 통해 새로운 항공지도를 제작하고자 했다.
6･25전쟁의 전황에 따라 미 공군은 긴급하게 정밀도가 제고된 항공지도가 필요했으며, 이를 항공지도정보서비스를 통해 제작하고자 했다. 전쟁 중 항공정찰을 통해 일부 확인된 항공정보를 기존에 일제하 한반도지도를 기초로 육군항공대에서 제작한 항공지도를 개선하고자 했다. 미 항공지도정보서비스는 전쟁기간 중 일제하 한반도지도를 근거로 작성하는 항공지도 제작과정을 개선하지는 않았다. 이는 미 공군이 항공지도 제작에 일본의 적극적인 협조를 받았을 개연성을 보여주는 것으로 항공지도를 둘러싼 한일간의 의견충돌과 갈등에 원인을 제공했다고 할 것이다.

After World War II, the United States participated in the Korean War in the early stages of the Korean War, which began as a widespread international war in the Cold War. Prior to the participation of U.S. ground forces, the U.S. Air Force participated in the war on June 26 and performed air operations. The US Air Force, which participated in the Korean War, performed air operations of the US Far East Air Force in charge of strategic operations and the US 5th Air Force in charge of tactical operations.
Regardless of the superiority of power in the US Air Force's air operations, there was a big difference in the criminal record and evaluation of air operations. The US Air Force participating in the war had very limited air information on the Korean Peninsula. The fact that accurate information about the target of air operations as well as weather information was limited was also a major cause. This occurred because the aeronautical chart urgently prepared by the US Air Force recorded some air information based on the military map under Japanese colonial rule. Air operations using aeronautical chart including inaccurate air information were difficult to achieve clear results. Strategic bombing of the North Korean region was not limited to military objectives and was driven to a political disadvantage. In addition, the inaccuracy of the aeronautical chart in blocking the advance of the communist forces and in close support operations of the ground forces caused various military and political problems.
As aviation power was converted from existing aircraft to jet fighters, an aeronautical chart containing various aviation information required for jet fighter operation was required. In order to solve this problem, the US Air Force tried to send air reconnaissance units to war to collect various aviation information, and to produce a new aeronautical chart through the aeronautical chart information service. During the liberation and the Korean War, it had a great influence on the modern history of both Koreas and Japan, and even today, the United States and the United States, which act as mediators and mediators in bilateral relations, exist as USFK and USFK.
After the Korean War, the role theory of the US Air Force according to the international situation in Northeast Asia increased, and it has a very deep relevance to the international and military relations between Korea and Japan. In this respect, examining the US Air Force's aviation operations during the Korean War, the production process of the aeronautical chart used for it, and its meaning is not limited to war history, but it is judged to have current implications.
