노장철학과 ‘한국미’에 관한 상관성 연구 －한국미 중에서소박미를 중심으로－ (A study on the Korean Beauty related to Laozi and Zhuangzi's Philosophy)

초록

본 연구는 한국미 담론에서 주로 거론되는 미적 요소들 중 많은 요소가 노장철학의 소(素)･박(樸)과 관련된다는 점에 주목하여 그것을 해명함으로써 한국미를 좀 더 사상적으로 폭넓게 이해하는 것을 목표로 한다. 한국미에 대한 그동안의 연구들을 거시적으로 분류해보면, 한국미에 대한 연구는 크게 두 흐름이 있다. 하나는 한국미의 미적 요소에 관한 연구와 다른 하나는 한국미의 미적 범주에 관한 연구들이다. 이와 같은 흐름 속에 한국미의 사상적 근원을 밝혀내려는 일이 상대적으로 소홀히 다루어졌다는 데에 본 연구의 문제의식이 있다. 그동안 규명되어 온 한국미의 미적 요소에서 소박미는 노장철학에서 전통적으로 다루어 온 사상들과 긴밀히 연관되어 있다는 것이 본 연구의 시각이다.
한국미 연구가 시작되었던 시기부터 현재까지 한국미 연구에 대해 살펴본 결과 소박미는 한국미 연구자들 대부분이 거론하는 미적 요소였다. 이러한 소박미는 중국 고대 시기의 노장철학과 깊은 관련이 있다. 따라서 소박미의 사상적 근원에 대한 탐구는 곧 노장철학에 대한 탐구라고 할 수 있다. 노장철학에서 말하는 소박에 대해서 알아본 결과 노자에서는 소박이 무지무욕의 상태와 다를 바 없었고, 장자에서는 소박한 그대로의 상태와 다를 바 없는 무위가 결국 아름다움(美)이라는 것을 알 수 있었다. 다른 한편으로 한국미는 한국이 본래부터 가지고 있는 특질이라는 의미의 고유성의 차원에서 논해지는 경향이 있다. 하지만 본 논문에서는 이러한 시각에 문제를 제기하고 한국미 담론은 고유성의 차원이 아니라 특수성의 차원에서 논해져야 하는 것임을 밝히고 있다. 한국은 동아시아 문화권에 속한 나라로서 한국미의 특수성에 대한 담론도 동아시아 미학이 공유하는 보편성의 토대 위에서 이루어져야 하기 때문이다.

영어초록

This study focuses on the fact that many elements of the aesthetic factors which are mainly discussed in the Korean Beauty discourse are related to Plainness(素) and Simplicity(樸) of Laozi and Zhuangzi's Philosophy, and aim to understand it more ideologically. Given the macro-category of studies on Korea Beauty, there are two main trends in the study. One is the study of the aesthetic elements of Korean Beauty and the other is the study of the aesthetic category of Korean Beauty. In this context, the study's concerns is that the task of identifying Korea Beauty ideological roots has been relatively neglected. In the aesthetic elements of Korean Beauty that have been identified so far, it is the simple-beauty(素朴美) that it is closely related to the thought that have been traditionally handled in the Laozi and Zhuangzi's Philosophy.
As a result of examining Korean Beauty studies from the beginning of Korean Beauty studies to the present, the simple-beauty was aesthetic element that most Korean Beauty researchers mentioned. The simple- beauty is deeply related to the Laozi and Zhuangzi's Philosophy of ancient times in China. Therefore, the study into the philosophical origin of the simple-beauty is the study for the Laozi and Zhuangzi's Philosophy. As a result of studying the Plainness and Simplicity of the Laozi and Zhuangzi's Philosophy, it was no different from the state of unselfish and ignorance in the Lao-tzu's Philosophy, and in the Zhuangzi's Philosophy, it was understanded that Wu-wei(無爲), which is not different from simple state, was finally beauty. On the other side, the Korean Beauty tends to be discussed in terms of the uniqueness of the character inherent in Korea. In this paper, however, it is suggested that Korean discourse should be discussed in terms of particularity rather than uniqueness. Korea is a country belonging to the East Asian culture, and the discourse about the particularity of Korean Beauty should be based on the universality shared by East Asian aesthetics.
