『탐라순력도』의 건축물 표현 기법 연구 (A Study on the Architectural Expression Techniques of 『Tamna Sullyeokdo』)

초록

이 연구는 18세기에 그려진 『탐라순력도』의 건축물을 중심으로 표현 기법을 밝히고자 하였다. 『탐라순력도』는 제주목사 이형상이 순력 후 김남길을 시켜 그린 그림첩이다. 제주목을 포함하여 3성 9진에서 실시한 행사를 그리다 보니 자연스럽게 많은 건축물의 모습이 모두 41개의 그림 중 33개의 그림에서 확인되었다.
이 그림의 건축물이 그려진 기법이나 표현은 이전에 그린 그림들과 관련이 있을 것으로 판단되어 궁중기록화, 계회도, 가도, 지도 등에서 그려진 건축물의 표현 기법을 살펴보았다. 각 그림에서 조금씩 차이가 있지만 대체로 평행직선구도, 평행사선구도, 정ㆍ후면만 그리기, 평행원근법 등이 사용되었다.
또한 제주도는 일반적으로 그림 상단이 남쪽인데, 『탐라순력도』내 그림의 상단 방향을 고찰하여 건물에 따라 조금씩 달라졌음을 확인할 수 있었으며 3성 9진의 건축물의 세부 표현법을 확인하였다. 마지막으로 각 주요 건물과 부속 건물, 그림의 배경이 되는 수평방향건물과 수직방향건물에 적용된 기법을 파악한 결과 정ㆍ후면만 그리기가 전체 건물표현에서 43번 사용되었고 평행사선구도는 40번, 평행직선구도는 34번 사용되었다. 평행사선구도가 많은 것은 배경이 되는 수직방향건물을 모두 이 기법으로 그렸기 때문이다. 전 시대에 유행한 평행원근법은 5번만 사용되어 구사하기 어려웠던 것으로 추정된다. 이 연구를 통해 당시 화공들의 건축물 인식의 수준을 알 수 있었고 행사를 위한 건축물의 구도나 배치를 유연하게 하였음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 당초 김남길이 혼자 그린 것으로 알려졌지만 조력한 집단이 있었을 것으로 추정된다.

영어초록

This study sought to reveal expression techniques focusing on the buildings of 『Tamna Sullyeokdo』 painted in the 18th century. 『Tamna Sullyeokdo』 is a picture book drawn by Jeju pastor Lee Hyeong-sang and commissioned Kim Nam-gil to do it after his trip. While drawing the events held in the 3 walled-towns and 9 military forts, including Jeju-mok, the appearance of many buildings was naturally confirmed in 33 of the 41 drawings.
It was judged that the techniques and expressions of the buildings in this painting were related to paintings from an earlier era, so we looked at the expression techniques of the buildings drawn in the Royal paintings, Gyehoedo(A picture of people with the same thoughts, philosophy gathered together), Roads, maps, etc. There are differences in each picture, but in general, parallel linear perspective, parallel diagonal perspective, drawing only the front and back, and reverse perspective were used.
In addition, in Jeju Island, the top of the picture is generally towards the south, and by examining the direction of the top of the picture in 『Tamna Sullyeokdo』, we were able to confirm that it changed slightly depending on the building, and we confirmed the detailed expression method of the buildings in three walled-towns and nine military Forts.
Finally, as a result of identifying the techniques applied to each main building, annex buildings, and the horizontal and vertical buildings that serve as the background of the picture, drawing only the front and rear was used 43 times in the expression of all buildings. And the parallel diagonal perspective was used 40 times, and parallel linear perspective were used 34 times. The reason there are so many parallel diagonal perspective is because all the vertical seated buildings in the background were drawn using this technique. It is presumed that the reverse perspective, which was popular in the previous era, was difficult to use because it was used only 5 times.
Through this study, we were able to find out the level of architectural perception of the painters at the time and found that the composition and arrangement of buildings for events were flexible. Also, it is known that Kim Nam-gil initially painted it alone, but it is presumed that there was a group that assisted.
