초록

공연예술의 현장이나 예술가의 생애를 남겨놓는 일은 예술가 개인의 기록일 뿐 아니라 문화의 흐름을 엿볼 수 있는 소중한 유산이자 세계 유일의 문화자원을 탄생시키는 일이다. 시공간의 제약을 받는 장르의 특성 때문에 기록행위가 적극 개입되지 않는다면 공연예술의 흔적은 무대 실연과 동시에 소멸될 수 있다. 때문에 창작과정에서부터 무대 위 실연에 이르는 ‘과정의 기록’에 대한 가치와 중요성이 커지고 있다. 과학기술의 발전과 공연예술 기록물에 대한 가치 변화는 특정 주제나 장르를 중심으로 기록물을 수집·관리하는 기관을 탄생시켰고, 2007년 국립국악원 국악아카이브(Kugak Archive)는 본격적인 업무를 시작하게 되었다.
본 연구에서는 국악아카이브가 10여 년간 수집한 한국 전통음악기록물을 대상으로 기록물의 보존 및 활용의 관점에서 그간의 성과와 향후 과제에 대해 고찰하였다. 2장에서는 한국 전통음악기록물의 발생과 종류, 외부 수집기록물의 현황을 ‘구입, 기증, 이용권 확보, 기탁’의 방법으로 정리하였다. 3장에서는 기록물 보존환경과 매체관리, 기록정보 및 저작권 관리, 공공저작물 개방, 온라인 전시 등 기록물 활용법과 현황에 대해 짚어보았다. 마지막으로 4장에서는 2007년부터 2017년 현재까지의 기록물 관리와 활용의 측면에서 국악아카이브 성과와 전망을 기술하였다.
국립국악원은 공연예술 현장의 기록자이면서 수집자이기 때문에 유일무이한 기록물에 대해 정확히 기술해야 하며, 그들이 갖는 예술적·문화적·가치를 파악해야 한다. 또한 기록물의 영구 보존을 위해 적정한 환경을 조성하고, 물리적 매체의 훼손을 방지해야 한다. 나아가 기록물을 축적하는 일에 몰두하기 보다는 기록물의 맥락과 구조, 내용정보를 충실히 관리하고, 기록물의 저작권 조사와 관리, 정보의 연계와 공유, 온라인 서비스의 확대 등 변화하는 시대의 변화와 이용자들의 요구에 부합할 수 있도록 적극적인 활용정책을 수립하여야 할 것이다.

영어초록

Leaving records of the performing arts history or the lives of artists to later generations helps to preserve the personal records of artists and also creates a valuable legacy to reflect the flow of culture and unique global cultural resources. If the acts of recording are not actively committed due to the characteristics of the genre limited by time and space, the performing arts will have their traces disappear right after the performance on stage. This is the reason why the value and importance of the “records of process” grow bigger and bigger from the creative process to the performance on the stage.
The advancement of science and technology and the changing values of performing arts records have given birth to agencies that collect and manage records sorted by certain topics or genres. In 2007, the Kugak Archive of the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts (now, the National Gugak Center) started its full-blown service.
This study examines the achievements and future tasks of the Kugak Archive from the perspective of records preservation and utilization with a focus on Korean traditional music records that it has collected for ten years. Chapter 2 deals with the birth and types of Korean traditional music records and the current state of externally collected records according to “purchase, donation, procurement of a voucher, and entrustment.” Chapter 3 reviews the utilization methods and current conditions of the records including the preservation environment of the records, media management, the records information and copyright management, opening of copyrighted public records to the public, and online exhibitions. Finally, Chapter 4 discusses the achievements and prospects of Kugak Archive in the aspects of records management and utilization from 2007 to 2017.
The National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts is both the recorder and collector of materials depicting the field of performing arts; thus, it has to ensure the accuracy of unique records and figure out their artistic and cultural values. It also needs to create a proper environment and prevent damage to the physical media for the permanent preservation of the records. It is vital to manage the context, structures, and content information of the records thoroughly rather than being committed to the accumulation of records and establish active utilization policies to meet the changes of evolving times and the needs of users including the examination and management of the records copyright, information linkage and sharing, and the expansion of online services.
