초록

금강산은 우리나라 문인들이 애호하고 선망한 유람 명소로 알려져 있다. 그러나 영남 문인에게는 18세기 후반 유람이 성행한 때에도 지리적 위치로 인해 연고 없이 쉽게 유람할 수 있는 산이 아니었다. 영남 문인의 금강산 遊記 중에 李秉運의 「東征日錄」ㆍ南漢朝의 「金剛山小記」ㆍ柳鼎文의 「遊金剛錄」은 모두 1796년에 지어진 작품들이다. 금강산과 먼 영남에서 같은 연도에 동시에 3종의 유기가 나타날 수 있었던 것은, 1796년 금강산 근방인 高城에 군수로 부임해 있던 柳範休의 인적ㆍ물적 지원에 의해서였다.
「동정일록」, 「금강산소기」, 「유금강록」 3종의 유기를 비교ㆍ분석하여, 류범휴와 사승 및 혈연으로 긴밀하게 연결된 이병운ㆍ남한조ㆍ류정문의 관계를 밝히고, 이를 토대로 이루어진 유람의 배경과 부차적인 목적, 유람 전후로 계속 이어졌던 동향인 간의 유대와 결속 등을 각 작품을 통해 확인하였다.
금강산으로 북상하면서 한양을 거치기 위해 내륙 경로를 택했던 이병운과 동해안 승경을 유람하기 위해 해안 경로를 택했던 남한조를 통해 영남 문인이 취하고자 했던 탐승의 양상을 확인하였다. 또 금강산 내의 사찰 체험 및 만폭동의 題名 행위에서 영남 문인 간에 표출된 불교 인식과 영남 문인 특유의 집단의식을 파악하였다.
3종의 유기는 일기체, 독립된 중편, 조합화 양식 등 각기 다른 체제를 보였으며, 도입부를 비롯하여 일부 산수 품평에서는 사마천과 유종원으로부터 계승된 전통적인 유기 서술 방식을 구사하였다. 또 이들은 한 번 걸음하기 어려웠던 금강산을 유람하고 고향으로 돌아온 뒤에, 견문 기록을 영남 문인 간에 공유함으로써 동향인들에게 간접 체험의 기회를 제공하기도 하였다.
여기서는 그동안 연구되지 않았던 3종의 유기를 다루면서 타 지역 문인들의 금강산 유람에 대한 희구를 살피고, 유람자의 출신 지역에 따른 유람 주체의 다양한 입지 등을 재성찰 할 수 있는 단초를 제공하였다는 데에 의의를 두고자 한다.

영어초록

Mount Geumgang is known as an object of fancy and aspiration regarding a tourist attraction for the nation's litterateurs. But even in the late 18th century, when the sightseeing and tourism was prevalent, Mount Geumgang was not a facile place for the litterateurs to visit without a personal connection due to its geographical location. Among the landscape essays on Mount Geumgang by the litteratures from Yeongnam(嶺南) province, Lee Byung-woon's 「Dongjeongillok(東征日錄)」, Nam Han-jo's "「Geumgangsan Soggi(金剛山小記)」, and Ryu Jeoung-moon's 「Yugeumgangrok(遊金剛錄)」 were all written in 1796. Simultaneous publication of these three distinct essays on Mount Geumgang written by the litterateurs from a remote region of the country, Yeongnam province, was made possible owing to the human and material support provided by Ryu Beom-heu(柳範休), who was appointed as a military officer to Goseong(高城), a city near Mount Geumgang, in 1796.
Through comparing and analysing these three distinct essays: 「Dongjungillok」, 「Gangsan Soggi」, 「Yugeumgangrok」, I have revealed the relationship between Ryu Beom-heu and the three litterateurs, Lee Byeong-woon, Nam han-jo, and Ryu Jeoung-moon, which are closely connected by their scholastic and blood ties. And based upon such findings, I have also identified the background of the travel, the secondary purpose, as well as the bond and solidarity that continued amongst these fellow collaborators from the same province through analyzing each piece of essays.
As they continued northward to Geumgang, Lee took the inland route for transporting in order to cross through Hanyang(漢陽), as opposed to Nam Han-jo, who took the coastal route to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the East Sea coast. Examining the path they took, I was able to distinguish the styles of their sightseeing excursion. Moreover, I have scrutinized the Buddhist perception expressed among the Yeongnam litterateurs, as well as the collective psyche peculiar to them by studying their stays in Buddhist temple of Mount Geumgang and their behavior of inscribing name on Manpokdong(萬瀑洞).
Each of these three distinct essays were composed in specific styles: in a form of journal; as an independent volume of medium length essay; and as an inserted piece in a book of essays. In the introduction, as well as when depicting and portraying the landscape, the authors embrace the traditional method of description in essay, the literary style adopted from those of the great Sima Qian(司馬遷) and Liu Zong-yuan(柳宗元). Upon returning to their hometown after concluding their travel to Mount Geumgang, which was difficult even to experience once in a lifetime, authors shared the records of their visit among the other litterateurs in Yeongnam, providing them with an opportunity to appreciate the landscape and its beauty at second hand.
This paper serves its purpose if it can have a slightest significance on analyzing Mount Geumgang as an object of desire and aspiration to litterateurs from the other parts of the country, while exploring the three distinct essays that have not been studied until now, and providing a clue to re-examine the various positions or status the subject of the tour can assume depending on the origin of the one who is taking the tour.
