선산김씨의 문중활동의 지역문화적 의의 - 文簡公派를 중심으로 - (The Regional Cultural Meaning of the Activities by the Kim Family Originating in Seonsan)

초록

선산 들성에 터를 잡은 선산김씨의 김취성과 김취문 형제는 16세기 사림파에서 중요한 역할을 한 송당 박영의 제자가 되었다. 이 두 형제의 도학정진과 활약은 선산김씨를 주목받게 하였다. 그 중에서도 문간공(文簡公) 김취문의 후손 번창, 그의 아들 김종무와 김종유의 활동은 선산지역에 유교이념의 실천을 진흥하는 데 기여하였다. 선산김씨의 세거지였던 들성은 호지(狐池)라는 선산 최대 규모의 저수지를 끼고 있어서 농업생산에 좋은 조건을 갖추고 있었다. 그리하여 선산김씨는 들성에 9개의 자연마을을 형성하면서 문중의 성장을 이룩할 수 있었다.
16세기에 김취문이 선산 최초의 서원 금오서원 창건에 중요한 역할을 하였기에 선산김씨 문중에서는 서원을 발판으로 하여 현조(顯祖)의 현양을 통하여 문중 구성원을 결속할 수 있었다. 김취문의 장자 김종무를 기점으로 하는 판서공파는 선산 지역의 사족과 학문교류뿐만 아니라 혼맥을 형성하였고, 지역사회 밖으로는 안동과 상주의 퇴계학파와 사제관계나 혼인관계를 맺어 사족간의 폭넓은 연망(連網)을 형성하였다. 김취문의 차자 김종유를 기점으로 하는 학생공파는 서인, 노론의 학통을 이었다. 그러므로 판서공파와 학생공파는 도학적·정치적 입장의 차이로 인하여 문중활동에서도 차이를 보였다.
그럼에도 17세기 초에 선산김씨는 처음 족보를 간행하여 문중의 통합을 강화하였다. 18세기에는 이러한 현상이 더 두드러졌으며, 후손이 번성한 김종무 가계는 여러 지파로 분화되었다. 서원철폐령이 내려진 19세기말에는 선산김씨가 선산지역에 유교적 사상과 덕목을 실천하는 데 앞장서려 한 모습이 보인다. 20세기에 들어오면 김취문의 장자 김종무의 지파들이 경쟁적으로 숭조건축물을 건립하여 지파의 결속과 선조 현양을 도모하는 한편, 대외적으로는 선산지역에서 들성의 유교문화 유산과 전통을 보존하고자 하였다.
요컨대 김취문 가계의 문중활동은 경제적·혈통적·학통적 기반 위에서 종법이념과 유교문화를 실천한 것이며, 그들의 활동은 지역사회 내부에서 유교문화의 진흥에 중요한 위상을 차지하고 있었다.

영어초록

Kim, Chwi-seong and Kim, Chwi-mun were brothers from the Kim family that originated in Seonsan and settled at Deulseong Village of Seonsan. They both became students following Park, Yeong with the pen name of Songdang who played a great role for the Sarim school of Chutzu doctrines in the 16th century. Their committment to studying the doctrines of Chutzu and other activities led their family to be recognized. Particularly Kim, Chwi-mun honored with the title of mungangong after death had his posterity prosper. His two sons, Kim, Jong-mu and Kim, Jong-yu did various activities and contributed to promoting the practice of Confucian ideology in the area of Seonsan. Deulseong Village where the Kim family originating in Seonsan lived from generation to generation had environments favorable for agricultural production with the largest reservoir called Hoji in Seonsan located nearby. Hence, the Kim family originating in Seonsan formed nine villages naturally, and thrived greatly.
In the 16th century, Kim, Chwi-mun played an important role in establishing Geumo Seowon which was the first academic institution in the area of Seonsan, so the members of his family could be united by extolling their excellent ancestors with the institution used as a foothold. The branch family of Panseogongpa beginning with his eldest son, Kim, Jong-mu not only organized the local Confucian scholars and led the regional academic activities and exchanges, but also formed marital relations in the area. At the same time, outside the region, the branch family of Panseogongpa made a wide network of Confucian scholars through academic and marital relationships with the school of Toegye in Andong and Sangju. The branch family of Haksaenggongpa beginning with Kim, Chwi-mun’s second son, Kim, Jong-yu succeeded to the scholastic mantles of Seoin and Noron. These two branches showed difference in Confucian ethics and political attitudes, and accordingly in their family activities.
However, in the early 17th century, the Kim family originated in Seonsan intensified the family integration by publishing its genealogy. In the 18th century, the activity of integrating the family was more strengthened. The branch family of Kim, Jongmu with more thriving posterity was divided into more subbranches. In the 19th century when the order that all the educational institutions called seowon be closed was enforced, the Kim family originated in Seonsan led the way in putting into practice Confucian ideas and cattues. In the 20th century, the subbranch families of Kim, Jong-mu competed with each other to build structures for ancestral admiration, and contributed to uniting the family divisions and admiring ancestors. Outside the family, they tried to conserve the heritage and tradition of Confucian culture in the village of Deulseong, Seonsan.
To sum up, the family of Kim, Chwi-mun did activities of putting into practice the ideology of Confucian rules and regulations, and Confucian culture on the economic, genealogical and academic grounds. These activities count for much in promoting Confucian culture within the community.
