상주(商周)시대 ‘도철문(饕餮紋)’을 활용한 램프워킹(Lampworking) 유리 조형에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Lampworking glass modeling using the Shang and Zhou Dynasty ‘Taotie’ pattern)

초록

상주시대(商周時代, B.C.1600-B.C.256)는 중국의 대표적인 청동기 문명의 절정기였으며, 이에 따른 다양한 청동기 주조 장식문양들이 등장하기 시작하였다. 그 중 가장 대표적인 것은 용의 형태를 기본으로 한 ‘도철문(饕餮紋)’ 으로서, 원시문명의 신비성과 그 당시의 정신이 깃든 상징성을 갖고 있었다. ‘도철문’의 특징은 용의 몸 전체 형태중 머리를 비대하게 구성하며 강하고 무서운 표정을 강조하고 있으며, 보통 두 마리의 용을 쌍으로 하여 서로 견제 하는 대칭 구도를 이루고 있다. 이는 상주시대의 용을 섬기는 우상숭배, 신화적 사상, 영생기원의 정신적 가치 등을 함의하고 있다.
이러한 전통양식을 조형적으로 현대화하여 재해석 하는데 연구의 목적을 두고 창작을 하였다. 특히 연구자의 관심분야인 램프워킹(Lampworking) 유리조형을 활용하여 ‘도철문’의 신화적이고 화려하고 투명한 질감 특징을 표현해 보았다. 램프워킹 기법은 14세기 이탈리아 베니스의 무라노에서 처음 개발되었으며, 19세기에 유럽 전역에서 성행하게 되었다. 20세기 중반에 들어와서는 근대공예의 차원이 아닌 현대미술로서의 표현을 꾸준히 시도해왔다. 현재는 다양한 용도로의 접근과 심미적 형상들을 표현하며, 창의적 연출을 하고 있다.
연구자는 램프워킹 기법을 시도하였는데, 선적이고 유기적인 시각적 특성의 ‘도철문’ 형태를 자유자재로 재해석하는데 매우 용이하였다. 작품의 주제는 크게 ‘사계(四季)’와 ‘생(生)’으로 선정하며, 대자연의 아름다움과 인간의 감성을 혼합한 주제로써 연구자의 자의적인 해석을 강조해 보았다. 인간의 삶을 중심으로 한 의미와 구름, 파도와 결합한 용의 역동성을 혼합적으로 형상화함으로써 삶의 ‘정신과 가치’를 지향하고자 하였다.
결과적으로 ‘도철문’을 활용한 램프워킹 유리조형은 주제의 표현에 있어, 작가의 조형언어가 반영되며 유리 고유의 투명한 색감과 유기적 형상이 조화롭고 자유롭게 표현되었다. 이러한 창작행위를 진행하면서 더욱 전통유물에대한 의미와 가치의 중요성을 되새기게 되었고 램프워킹 기법을 통하여 무궁무진한 형상의 재해석이 가능함을 진단하게 되었다. 향후 전통문화의 가치를 계승할 수 있는 여러 콘텐츠들을 탐구하여 다양한 조형언어로 형상화해보고자 한다.

영어초록

The Shang and Zhou Dynasties (B.C.1600-B.256) was the peak of China's representative bronze civilization. There were various bronze casting decoration patterns began to appear. Among them, the most representative is the 'Taotie Pattern' based on the shape of the dragon. It had the mystery of primitive civilization and the symbolism of the spirit at that time. The characteristic of 'Taotie Pattern' is that in the whole body shape of the dragon, the head is enlarged, emphasizes the strong and scary expression. Usually, two dragons are pdired to form a symmetrical pattern of mutual restraint. This means the worship of idols, mythological ideas, and spiritual values of praying for eternal life in the Shang and Zhou Dynasties.
The purpose of this study is to shape, modernize and reinterpret these traditional styles. In particular, it makes use of the field that the researcher pays attention to the glass form of lampworking, which shows the mythical gorgeous and transparent texture characteristics of the 'Taotie Pattern'. The lampworking technique was first developed in Murano, Venice, Italy, in the 14th century, and prevailed throughout Europe in the 19th century. Since the middle of the 20th century, it has been trying to express modern art rather than modern craft. Now it shows a variety of approaches and aesthetic images for creative interpretation.
The researcher tried lampworking technique. It is very easy to reinterpret the 'Taotie Pattern' form of linear organic visual characteristics freely. The theme of the work is largely selected as 'Four Seasons' and 'Life', which combines the beauty of nature and human sensibility, and emphasizes the arbitrary interpretation of researcher. By mixing and visualizing the meaning centered on human life and the vitality of the dragon combined with clouds and waves, the researcher intends to point to the 'spirit and value' of life.
As a result, the use of the 'Taotie' glass form in the theme of the performance reflects the author's form language, the inherent transparent color of glass and organic image are displayed in harmony and freedom. The creation of this kind of behavior reviews the importance of the significance and value of traditional cultural relics. Through the lampworking technique, the endless images can be reinterpreted. In the future, the researcher will explore and inherit various contents of traditional cultural values and visualize them into various form languages.
