오장환 시에 나타난 ‘언어해체’와 ‘항일의식’의 관련성 연구 - 『전쟁』의 ‘시적 무의미’를 중심으로 (A study on the relation between the ‘dissolution of a language’ and ‘anti-Japanese sentiments’ in Oh Jang-Whan’s poetry - focused on the poetic nonsense of 「the war」)

초록

「전쟁」은 모더니즘 기법을 활용하여 ‘만주사변’을 비롯한 ‘중일전쟁’ 전후의 현황과 전쟁의 야만성을 고발하고 있다. 형식과 내용 둘 다에서 전면적 언어해체는 ‘도서과 검열’을 통과하기 위한 시적 전략으로 간주된다. 즉 「전쟁」은 해체적 표현과 냉소적 태도 너머에 숨겨진 시인의 ‘의도’와 ‘의향’에 관한 독해가 요청되는 텍스트이다. 본고는 먼저, 「전쟁」에 나타난 ‘시적 무의미’의 ‘범주적’ 특성을 중심으로 ‘시적 의향’과 ‘언어 해체’의 관련성을 구명하였다. 다음, ‘시적 무의미’의 ‘결합적’ 특성을 중심으로 ‘언어해체’와 ‘출판검열’이라는 긴장관계에 의해 심층화되는 ‘시적 의도’ 즉 시인의 ‘항일의지’를 구체화하였다.
첫째, ‘범주적 이탈’의 무의미는 복합적이고 전면적으로 구사되고 있는데, 이는 조선말에 익숙하지 않은 독자의 경우 해체구문의 진의를 이해하기 어렵도록 한다. 이는 ‘도서과 검열’을 의식한 시인이, 궁극적으로 고발하고자 하는 내용을 ‘형식적’으로 은폐하고자 한 ‘시적 의향’과 관련이 있다. 둘째, ‘어휘의 무의미’는 주로, ‘독가스류’, ‘전함류’, ‘무기류’, ‘살인광선’ 등의 세부항을 구체화하는 데에 사용된다. 이것은 ‘만주사변’을 비롯하여 ‘중일전쟁’과 ‘태평양전쟁’ 등에서 일본이 개발,사용한 실제 무기종류라는 점에 주목할 필요가 있다. 셋째, ‘상황의 무의미’는 ‘나의 아저씨’, ‘죽어가는 병사’, ‘출산하는 처녀’ 등을 조롱하거나 냉소하는 태도와 관련하여 활용된다. 그럼에도 이어지는 시적 무의미 어구들과의 결합적 관계에 의해 이 대상들은 결국, 평범하고 무고한 우리 민족의 일원임이 밝혀진다.
특히 이 장시의 중심대상 즉 ‘나의 아저씨’, ‘죽어가는 병사’, ‘서정시인(나)’, ‘출산하는 처녀’ 등에 주목한다면, 시적 무의미 범주 각각의 표층적 의미항은 상호 간의 결합적 관계에 의해 그 의미맥락이 역전적으로 전복되는 ‘수수께끼의 무의미’를 형성하고 있다. 즉 시인이 비하하고 희화화하는 사람들, 즉 ‘생체실험대’에 누운 ‘나의 아저씨’, ‘캠풀’을 쓰지 못하고 ‘죽어가는 병사’, ‘비료가 되기로’ 결심하는 ‘서정시인/나’, 전쟁터에서 아기를 낳는 ‘조선인 처녀’ 등은, 당시 일본의 전쟁동원으로 인해 비인간적이고 비극적인 최후를 맞는 평범한 우리 민족의 일원임을 알 수 있다. 「전쟁」은 한국어에 능숙하지 않은 검열관일 경우, 당시 동원되는 전쟁무기류를 열거하고 우리 민족을 비하하는 모더니즘 기법의 장시로 독해할 소지를 지니고 있다. 즉 ‘살인광선’을 인격화하고 우리 민족의 일원을 비하, 냉소, 조롱하는 ‘시적 무의미’의 어구들은, 당대의 해체적 기법을 사용하여 검열을 통과하여 ‘현실성’과 ‘시대성’에 충실하고자 한 시인으로서의 숙명과 각오를 전하고자 한 시적 장치였던 셈이다. 유의할 것은, ‘독가스’, ‘생체실험’, ‘전함류’, ‘조선위안부’ 등이 ‘만주사변’ 이후 ‘중일전쟁’과 ‘태평양전쟁’까지 횡행하였던 당시 역사적 실제기록과 거의 일치한다는 것이다. 「전쟁」은 모더니즘적 해체방식을 경유한 ‘은폐’와 ‘고발’의 ‘시적 의향’에 의해 ‘일본의 전쟁야욕의 실제’와 ‘항일저항의 의지’가 심층적으로 부상된다.

영어초록

「the war」, the long poem of Oh Jang-Whan, accuses the current situation before and after ‘the Sino-Japanese War’, including the ‘Manchurian Incident’, and the barbarity of the war. The way of language disintegration, which appears entirely in both form and content, can be regarded as a kind of poetic strategy to pass through the 'publishing department’s censorship' at the Japanese colonial era. In other words, 「the War」 is a text that requires reading the hidden intentions of the poet beyond deconstructive expression and cynical attitude. This paper categorizes the types of 'poetic nonsense' used in 「the War」 into four categories, and examined the characteristics and meanings of detailed expressions of each category. At the same time based on the characteristics and meanings of 'categories of poetic nonsense' shown in 「the war」, his 'intent and intention' that are deeply meaningful through the relationship between the 'categories of poetic nonsense' and the ‘central object’ are analyzed. First, the phrases described through the nonsense of various and complex ways of ‘category mistake’ are difficult to understand for readers who are unfamiliar with the Korean language, which can be said that it is a poetic intent to conceal the main object from ‘censorship’. Second, 'the nonsense of vocabulary' is mainly used to specify details such as 'poison gas', 'battleships', 'weapons', and 'killing ray'. However, it is worth noting that these are real weapons developed and used by Japan in the Manchurian Incident, the Sino-Japanese War, and the Pacific War.Third, 'the nonsense of the situation' is mainly used in relation to the attitude of mocking or cynicism of 'my uncle', 'dying soldier', and 'birthing maiden'. Nevertheless, by the combined relationship with various poetic meaning phrases that follow, he makes us realize that these objects eventually are members of our ordinary and innocent people.
When we pay attention to the central objects in this long poem, such as ‘My uncle’, ‘Dying Soldier’, ‘a lyric poet(me)’ and 'birthing maiden’, we can see that each superficial meaning term in each poetic meaning category forms the ‘enigma' in which the context of meaning is reversed by the combined relationship with each other. In other words, those whom the poet disparages and caricatures, such as ‘My uncle’ lying on a ’a biological experiment table, ‘Dying Soldier’ without a ‘campule’(an medicine), ‘lyric poet(me) deciding to be a Fertilizer, and ’Korean Maiden’ who gives birth to a baby on the battlefield, can be seen as members of the ordinary Korean people who faced an inhumane and tragic end due to Japan's mobilization of the war at the time. A Japanese censor who is not proficient in Korean may mistake 「The war」 as a long poem written through modernist technique that lists the weapons of war mobilized at the time and demeans our people. In other words, the expressions that personify ‘killing ray’ and disparage, ridicule and sneer Koreans are poetic devices to pass censorship through a deconstructive technique of that time and convey his in-depth intentions. Surprisingly, ‘poison gas’, ‘weapons’, ‘battle ships’, ‘Korean comfort women’(sex slavery) generally match the historical records of the time, ‘Sino-Japanese War’ and ‘the Pacific War’ after ‘the Manchurian Incident’. 「The War」 shows an attempt to express the 'reality of Japan's war ambition' and 'willingness to resist Japan' by poetic intent of 'cover-up' and 'accusation' using the modernist technique.
