영남예술의 미적 세계 탐구를 위한 방법론의 모색 — 통영승전무를 대상으로 한 통학문적 접근 (Methodological Discussion on the Aesthetical World of Youngnam Arts: Interdisciplinary Approach to the Victory Celebration Dance of Tongyong)

초록

이 논문은 영남춤의 하나인 통영 승전무의 미적 세계를 밝혀보기에 앞서 예비적 단계로서 여러 가지 접근방법들을 설정하는 데에 그 의의를 둔다.
한 가지 사실을 여러 측면에서 바라보면 전체상이 좀 더 잘 드러난다는 점에서 통通학문적인(interdisciplinary method)이라는 방법을 쓰게 된다. 여기선 예닐곱 가지로 접근방식을 모색해서 나중에 미학의 논구로 모아지게 되는데 거기까지 이르는 길을 몇 가지 갈래로 설정해 본 것이다.
승전무 연구는 춤의 문화적 접근으로서 한국성과 춤의 미학적 접근으로서 예술성을 함께 찾게 되므로 결국 한국예술학의 한 연구로 모아진다. 한국 전통춤 연구란 먼저 일차적으로 세계의 여러 갈래의 춤 중에 한국적이고도 민족적인 춤의 하나로서 접근한다는 것인데, 민족춤학적, 춤인류학적 연구라 할 수 있다. 두 번째는 춤 언어체계 및 동작언어학적 접근이다. 비문자 언어 또는 비발성 언어인 음악을 악보로 기록하듯이, 형체가 없는 몸의 움직임을 무보舞譜로서 기록하여 이를 동작언어학적으로, 의미론적으로, 해석학적으로 접근할 수 있겠는가 하는 것이다. 세 번째는 교방무의 칼춤의 하나로서 전승되고 이행해 온 과정을 다른 지역 교방무의 칼춤과 서로 가지런히 동일평면상에 놓고 비교함으로써 통영 승전무의 칼춤의 특성을 더욱더 명확하게 짚어내는 것이다. 네 번째는 승전무를 현대춤의 관점에서 접근하는 것이다. “몸의 움직임을 통해 시각적으로 형성하는 유의미한 일련의 구성체”라는 현대적인 춤의 정의에 비추어 볼 때 승전무의 내용과 형식은 어떻게 파악될 수 있겠는가 하는 것이다. 다섯 번째는 승전무를 동양춤, 동양예술, 특히 동아시아문화학의 관점에서 바라보는 것이다. ‘2수분화’와 ‘3수분화’, ‘사事’와 ‘동사同事’라는 개념 등 동양예술일반의 몇 가지 논거 점들을 놓고 승전무를 살펴보는 것이다. 그리고는 한국춤의 아름다움과 형태적 양식적 특성, 그리고 그것의 미의식과 미적 세계를 밝혀놓고 있는 한국춤의 미학일반론에 비추어서 승전무의 칼춤은 어떤 지점에서 논의될 수 있겠는가 하는 것이다. 포괄적인 한국춤미학의 관점에서 승전무를 미적 대상과 미적 체험, 곧 형식과 내용면으로 나누어서 견주어보는 것이다. 마지막으로 승전무를 하나의 작품으로 놓고 볼 때 작품을 바라보는 감상자와 작품을 수행하는 안무자나 연행자 사이에서 어떻게 새로운 의미를 창출하여 해석학적 지평을 열 수 있겠는지, 또 어떻게 가치평가를 내릴 수 있을 것인지로 논의를 마감 하게 된다. 이 마지막의 것은 승전무가 오늘날 여러 한국창작춤들과 어떻게 같이 향수되고 평가될 수 있는가하는 질문부터 풀어나가야 할 과제이다. 어떤 면에서는 집단창작, 집단향수의 산물인 승전무를 통해 개인 창작, 개인 향수의 관점에만 머무르고 있는 한국예술비평론의 한계를 돌파해 볼 수 있는 중요한 논거지점을 마련해볼 수 있겠다는 것이다.
위와 같이 여러 접근방식과 그 의미을 일별해 보았는데, 이 글은 승전무에 관한 본격적인 미학논의 이전의 준비단계로서 위의 항목 가운데 첫 번째부터 다섯 번째까지를 중심으로 살펴나간다.

영어초록

The research aims to establish diverse approaches preliminarily to illuminate the aesthetic world of Victory Celebration Dance of Tongyong(統營 勝戰舞), one of the traditional arts of the Eastern South of Korea. The research comes to utilize some interdisciplinary methods in that the wholesome aspects can be revealed well, if we observe one fact from diverse perspectives. That is to say, the method can be multi-cultural, inter-educational, and interactive approach. The method has established some ways to the destination as Korean Dance Aesthetics, seeking to approximately six or seven approaches.
What has to be focused on is that Victory Celebration Dance of Tongyong is one of the traditional dances, and also one of dance arts. Those two features collide into and compensate for each other. When it comes to the research on the ‘Korean Traditional Dances’, it is possible to emphasize on the term of ‘Korean Tradition’. It would also be the aesthetics of dance dealing with the artistic aspects and the peculiar Korean dance to emphasize on dances. It is possible to find out the Korean characteristics as a cultural approach to dance and the artistic characteristics as an aesthetic approach to dance. The research woud be finally one of Korean Art-Science.
What the research on the traditional Korean dances means primarily the approach to Korean dance and racial one as a genre of diverse world dances, in which ‘racial’ does not mean ‘nationalistic’ but ‘ethno’. It is possible to approach Korean dances as ethnochoreology or dance anthropology. The approach can be some methods for making database, humanity scientific, and social scientific objects of Victory Celebration Dance as a traditional Korean dance. Especially making database would be primarily a significant project in the field of ethnochoreology.
Second, it is possible to approach by the methods of dance language system and dance semiotics and the kinesic linguistics. The method focuses on how researchers write down the formless dance to make the object of science. It is concerned with making non literal language or non verbal language a science object. As the formless intangible music is written on the musical note, the formless intangible bodily gestures can be written on a dance note. It is possible to approach dances by the method of semiotic language, semantics, and kinesic hermeneutics.
Third, it can be some tasks to compare the sword dance with the drum dance among Victory Celebration Dance and to reveal some features of the sword dance. It is important to make some systems of the types of various Korean sword dances. It is possible to illuminate some features of Victory Celebration Dance of Tongyong by comparing it with other types of sword dances on the same level. It is one of Kyobang Chooms.
Fourth, as a modern dance of Victory Celebration Dance, how do we figure out the contents and forms of Victory Celebration Dance from the perspective of the modern definition of the dance is ‘a series of the significant space-composition formed visually through the movement of the body’?Fifth, it is possible to consider Victory Celebration Dance from the cultural perspective of oriental dance, oriental art, and especially the Eastern Asian culture.
It is possible to review Victory Celebration Dance on the basis of recent some issues of debate of oriental arts by the perspective of ‘the working for(事)’and ‘the friendship of working together(同事)’.
And then, from the perspective of the general aesthetic theory of Korean dance which suggests some aesthetics, its beauty, and formal types of mode in Korean dance, on which spot can the sword dance of Victory Celebration Dance be discussed? Since the general aesthetic theory of Korean dance was described after various genres of the traditional Korean dances, all the contents does not necessarily lead to Victory Celebration Dance. However, as it can be dealt with sufficiently within the whole category of the traditional Korean dances, the research tries to compare the general characteristics of forms, the aesthetic consciousness, the aesthetic world, and its contents and forms from the existing perspective of dance aesthetics.
At last, coming to a conclusion, in watching Victory Celebration Dance as a work of art how do we draw some meanings between the beholders who are watching a work and the choreographer or the performer who are performing the work? What is the types of beauty? How do we evaluate the work?Those last ones would be the basic question whether Victory Celebration Dance can be discussed along with other types of contemporary creative dances. It is not important to regard Victory Celebration Dance as an art or not. Though the work was anonymous, or any anonymous one made it with his own idea and imagination, like most traditional dances the work must be reviewed from the perspective of group creating. It is absurd to figure out the creation intention and the writer's consciousness of Victory Celebration Dance from the common art criticism. However, we can emphasize on the perspective of ‘collective creation’, and ‘collective enjoyment’, an accumulated view by which people have watched the sustainable process of the creation. As a result, from the research we can understand as the breakthrough of the limit of art criticism in which the theory would remain within individual creation and individual enjoyment.
I have arranged some approach methods and spots, and do research from the first to the fifth one as a preparatory stage of the essential aesthetic discussion.
