경남내륙지역 목관‧목곽묘의 구조적 특징과 축조양상 (The Structural Characteristics and Architectural Features of Gyeongnam Inland's Wooden Gasket Tombs and Wooden Chamber Tombs)

초록

이 글은 경남내륙지역 목관‧목곽묘에 대해서 크게 두 가지 관점에서 살펴보았다. 즉 최근 발굴사례를 정리하여 목관‧목곽묘의 구조적 특징을 검토한 후 정장리 Ⅲ-86호 목곽묘를 통해 축조양상과매장방식을 유추하였다.
첫째, 목관묘는 ①묘광 ②요갱 ③목관 ④충전토 ⑤실토(實土) ⑥목개 ⑦봉토로 구성되어 영남지역의 것들과 크게 다르지 않다. 다만 창촌리 B-25호 목관묘는 이단굴광인데, 특이한 점은 묘광 상단보다 하단을 동쪽으로 10° 정도 틀어 굴착하고 목관을 안치한 점이다. 또 도항리 48호 목관묘는 충전토가 없고 특히 격벽이 확인되는 등의 독특한 구조를 보이기도 한다.
목곽묘는 ①묘광 ②목곽 ②목관 ③시상 ④충전토 ⑤실토(實土) ⑥봉토 ⑦부곽으로 구성된다. 목곽묘의 종류는 단독곽식, 이중곽식, 이혈주부곽식으로 그 중 정장리 목곽묘는 내곽과 외곽을 동시에설치한 이중곽식 목곽묘와 목곽 하나만 설치한 것 중 양단벽에 유물부장칸을 따로 만든 구조가 명확하다. 또 바닥면에 주혈을 굴착하여 목주를 설치하고 횡방향의 목재를 적게는 2개, 많게는 5개 정도놓고 그 위에 종방향의 목판을 깔았다. 그리고 목판 위에 내외곽을 설치한 양상이 뚜렷하다.
둘째, 정장리 Ⅲ-86호 목곽묘의 구조적 특징을 통해 일련의 행위 과정을 유추하여 축조양상과매장방식을 복원하였다. 즉 ①묘광 ②주혈을 파서 묘광을 완성한 다음의 의례→ ③횡목재 및 종목판설치 ④내외곽 설치와 충전의 의례→ ⑤주검의 안치와 유물부장 과정의 의례→⑥목곽 복개와 밀봉및 봉토 축조 의례 순으로 진행되었을 것으로 유추하였다. 따라서 정장리 Ⅲ-86호 목곽묘 등은 경남내륙지역 목곽묘의 구조적 특징과 축조양상을 입체적으로 복원할 수 있는 계기를 마련한 점에서 의미를 찾을 수 있다.

영어초록

This study examined the wooden gasket tombs and wooden chamber tombs in Gyeongnam Inland areas from two main perspectives. It summarizes recent excavation cases to review the structural characteristics of these tombs and infers the construction style and burial methods through the example of the Jeongjang-ri Tomb No. Ⅲ-86.
Firstly, the wooden gasket tombs consist of ① burial area (tomb pit), ② wooden gasket, ③ backfill soil, ④ topsoil, ⑤ wooden fence, and ⑥ mound, which are not significantly different from those found in the Yeongnam region. However, the wooden gasket tomb at Jangchon-ri B-25 is a unique half-cut chamber type. What is particularly noteworthy is that the lower part of the tomb pit is excavated about 10° eastward from the top, where the wooden gasket is placed. Additionally, the wooden gasket tomb at Dohang-ri #48 lacks backfill soil and exhibits a distinctive structure with retaining walls.
The structure of the wooden chamber tombs consists of ① burial area (tomb pit), ② wooden chamber, ② wooden gasket, ③ pedestal, ④ backfill soil, ⑤ topsoil, ⑥ capstone, and ⑦ outer wall.
There are various types of wooden chamber tombs, including single-chamber style, double-chamber style, and compound chamber style. Among them, the wooden chamber tombs in Jeongjang-ri is notably distinct because it has separate compartments on both walls for the relics among the double-chamber style tombs that have both the inner and outer walls and the single-chamber style tombs. Additionally, the floor surface is excavated to install a pedestal, and two to five wooden planks are placed across it. And it is clear that the inside and outside are installed on the wooden board.
Second, the architectural features and burial styles have been reconstructed by inferring the procedure of construction based on the structural features of the Jeongjang-ri Tomb No. Ⅲ-86. The assumed procedure is as follows: Excavation of the ① burial area and ② tomb pit and installation of the pedestal → Installation of horizontal wooden planks and longitudinal planks → ④ Installation of inner and outer walls and backfilling → ⑤ Placement of body and artifacts → ⑥ Closing and sealing of the wooden gasket and mound construction. Therefore, the Jeongjang-ri Tomb No. Ⅲ-86, among others, holds significance as it provides an opportunity to comprehensively reconstruct the structural characteristics and construction processes of wooden chamber tombs in the Gyeongnam Inland region.
