    초록

Yong-soo(1908-2001) as a prolific poet devoted his whole life to writing poems, which reflect emotional wandering of youth, lyrical poetic spirit, and critically historical view. Of these subjects or his poetry, however, hardly any study has been made in earnest. Therefore this study deals with problems related to form and matter by focusing on his only collection of sijo A Hoary Bare Tree (긏Φ푬. 팿ㅼ긏).
In this collection his most favorite type of sijo form is 7 line verse and the next most favorite is a combined type. This longer combined verse is completed by the 7 line verse being added after 6 line verse type. For his 6 line verse, each of three lines in the traditional sijo is divided into two lines, but the only difference of 7 line verse from 6line verse is that in 7 line verse the traditional ending line is divided into three lines. Though variously attempted modifications in the modern sijo form are caused by desire for expression of complicated orders or emotions, a regular rhythm required in sijo enables the effective use of restraint on words. Thus, in that it's effective to follow the principle of economics even in lingual life, this study of the aspect of matter has to be focused on restraint on desire.
Human desire is reproduced ceaselessly and that is chained in its circling route of Eros and Thanatos. On such a condition of losing, any joy of winning is not as great as the sorrow of losing and the sorrow from the loss unforeseen is bitter as well. Though human needs may beallowed to be satisfied, the words a poet can use and their combinations are infinite like the boundless range of the insatiable nature of desire.
Nevertheless, the beauty of the words is possible only when the poet possesses tensive and concentrated contexts of his words.
Therefore, the use of poetic dictions is more critical than words themselves and, rather than the pursuit of various forms of sijo, it must be more significant poetic work to make simplification of delicate and complicated emotions.
