초록

이 논문은 전향 사회주의자들의 전향에 대한 논리의 일단을 살펴보는데 주안점을 둔다. 전향에 관해서는 많은 연구가 행해지고 있다. 그러나 전향은 전향한 당사자만의 문제도 이미 지나간 과거의 문제만도 아니다. 오히려 전향과 관련해서 전향은 사회. 역사적 맥락에 따라 그 의미를 달리해온 것이 사실이다. 이처럼 전향이 사회. 역사적 맥락에 따라 그 의미가 달라져온 것이 사실이라면, 이 논문에서 사용하는 전향은 보편적인 의미가 아닌 그야말로 특정한 시각과 해석을 전제로 한 ‘전향’임을 먼저 밝힌다. 흔히 '전향'에 함축된 (지배하는) 권력과 (저항하는) 개인이라는 이분법적 구도는 일-국가적인 해석의 산물일 경우가 많다. 1937년 중일전쟁부터 급속하게 진행된 세계 질서의 강제적인 재편 속에서 식민지 조선 역시 아시아와 세계를 시야에 넣는 제국 주체로의 탄생을 피할 수 없었다. 이 상황의 변동을 어느 누구보다 민감하게 알아차린 사람이 식민지 조선의 지식인들이었다. 이들은 '전향'이라는 주어진 현실에 복종하기만 한 것은 아니다. 변화된 지형 속에서 스스로의 지위를 확보하고자 주어진 현실을 최대한도로 활용한 능동적 행위자였으며, 이런 그들의 능동성은 자발적인 신민이기를 요구하는 제국의 정책과 긴밀하게 조응하고 있었다. 경제적인 이익 못지않게 '전향' 사회주의자들에게 '전향'’은 코스모폴리탄이라는 이념형을 실현하는 일 계기로 다가온다. 이를 잘 보여주는 것이 '전향'사회주의자들의 지속적인 담론 개입과 공격적인 의제 생산일 것이다. 현영섭은 내선일체를 통해 코스모폴리탄을 꿈꾼다. 내선일체에 적극적으로 복무함으로써 세계사적 이상을 실현한다는 현영섭의 견해가 극단적인 경우라면, 인정식은 과거의 업적이 오류에 찬 것이며 걸어온 노선이 잘못됐다는 말과 함께 새로운 진리와 신념을 향해 나아가는 이상인(理想人)을 요청하고 있다. 이런 시대적 압력은 문학 내에서 유사하지만 다른 발화의 징후를 드러낸다. 김남천의 소설이 그 한 예가 된다. 김남천은 건설 기술자와 실업가, 전향한 사회주의자와 문학가를 소설의 중심인물로 삼아 서사를 주조해나간다. 김남천의 소설들은 코스모폴리탄으로서의 자격을 갖춘 자와 그렇지 않은 자를 예리하게 변별하고 있다. 구질서의 표상인 '전향'사회주의자는 신질서의 전형인 건설 기술자로 대체된다. 이 둘은 전혀 별개의 세계에 존재하는 다른 존재들인 것이다. 한 쪽의 죽음을 댓가로 다른 한 쪽의 삶을 온존하는 기형적인 모습을 김남천의 소설들은 보여준다. 또한 구질서의 한 표상인 남성 - 문학가가 등장하는 김남천의 소설 '낭비'는 구질서의 모든 퇴폐와 타락을 도시의 신여성들에게로 되돌리고 있다. 이 타락한 자들과 동일한 공간에 존재한다는 불만과 공격성은 도시의 신여성을 한편으로 받아들이면서 한편으로 거부하는 주된 이유가 된다. 그가 구질서의 표상으로 사회에서 완전히 배제/탈락되지 않을 수 있었던 이유는 이처럼 여성적인 자질의 부정성을 전유함으로써 가능하다. 이처럼 김남천의 소설에서 ‘전향’은 과거와 현재와의 치열한 대결이 아니라 신질서의 제국 주체로 혹은 사회적 약자의 형상을 빌어 스스로를 변명하는 모습으로 나타난다. 김남천의 많은 소설이 ‘전향’을 직접적으로 다루고 있지 않음에도 불구하고, 흥미로운 이유가 바로 여기에 있다.

영어초록

This thesis focuses on research for clues of the logic of the Socialist writer's conversion. Today many investigators are working in the theme of conversion, and a number of results are produced. We have not to limit the matter of conversion to the person concerned or regard the matter as the past remains. Though the matter of conversion is always concerning the context of history. Thereby this matter which is used in this thesis is not the general notion, but the specified notion. Of course that supposes specific viewpoint and the way of interpretation. In general, the matter of conversion have been implied the dichotomy between the power that dominate over the individual and the individual who stands against the power. Maybe this is the result of the interpretation through the idea of one-country. A colony Chosun(식민지 조선) had a fate to become empire-subject who has the sight range from the Asia to the world since the reorgnization of world order ; specially after the war between China and Japan, 1937. The intelligentsia in Chosun early and sensitively had became aware of the situation and change.They did not only obey the given conditions, but also actively make possible effort to use the given conditions. They were active actor and wanted to the a subject according to the policy of the empire. The conversed socialist writer had the chance to make money and more to actualize the idea of cosmopolitan through the very conversion. This appeared the activity that conversed socialist writer produced continual intervention in social discourse and assaultive topic for discussion. Hyeon Yeong Seob(현영섭) was dreaming of becoming a cosmopolitan through the Identification of Chosun and Japan(Naeseon Ilchae). His dream, hoping the actualize idea of the history of world, is an extreme case, on the other case is founded In Jeong Shik. He criticized false remains and called for the notion of an ideal man who works away pursuing the new truth and belief. These enforcement of that time showed the similar at the same time and different symptom of speech. As it were Kim Nam Cheon'(김남천)s novels. Kim Nam Cheon(김남천) composed the novels focussing on the main character like as an architect and engineer, an businessman, and a conversed writer. His novels show the sharp difference between ideal cosmoplitan and not. Also the conversed socialist writer who standed the old and past order replaced with the ideal architect and engineer who standed the new order. His works has the deformed feature to build one part with killing other part. And in his novel 'Waste(낭비)', the hero, standing the old order, is corrupted by another fact. Writer takes hero's blame upon other women who are modern female in the city. Hero's corruption resulted from coexistence with that women, so in the novel there are lots of critic and attack for them. But those modern women is a dispensable fact, because their existence could explains the hero's corruption and hero, representation as the writer's own or male at that times, has a place of refuge. His novels common showed the fact that conversion is not result of competition with the real conditions of that world, but result of the vindication with the figuration an imperial subject in the new ordered world or a loser.It is interesting that his works are direct dealing with the theme of conversion, but indirect dealing with above that way of expression.
