한용운과 호치민(胡志明)의 비교 연구 : 옥중 한시 및 자국어 시를 중심으로 (A Comparative Study of Han Yong Woon and Hō Chi Minh)

초록

이 논문은 한용운과 호치민의 비교 연구를 위한 인문학적인 연구이다. 물론 여기에서는 문학이 중심을 이루지만, 역사․철학․언어학 등의 내용을 두루 포함하고 있다. 이 논문에서는, 첫째 두 사람 사이의 전기적인 사실, 둘째 시기가 좀 어긋나지만 두 사람이 쓴 옥중시, 셋째 두 사람이 가지고 있었던 각자의 사상적인 성향을 비교 연구의 대상으로 삼았다. 한용운은 3․1운동을 주도한 후 옥중 생활을 하게 되었고, 호치민은 프랑스 파리에서 식민지 지식으로서, 언론인 및 논객으로서 활동하였는데, 두 사람 모두 옥중에 갇혀 있을 때 한시를 썼다. 두 사람은 한시 외에도 자국어로 시와 산문을 쓰기도 했다. 한용운은 주로 지도자보다는 민족 시인으로 잘 알려졌고, 호치민은 시인보다는 민족 지도자로 잘 알려져 있다. 두 사람은 식민지 시대에 자유와 독립의 사상가로도 잘 알려져 있다. 이 논문은 본 연구자가 제시한 일련의 연구 세목을 통해 한-베트남 문화 교류, 더 나아가 두 나라간의 비교문학적인 관점이라는 다문화적인 의미 형성에 기여할 수 있을 것이라고 생각된다.

영어초록

Han Yong Woon(韓龍雲, 1879～1944) is well known as a Korean poet, a Buddhist monk, as well as an activist for the Korean independence under Japanese rule. He was one of the thirty-three agents of the March First Movement. In fact, he was a key figure in the movement. Imprisoned for three years, he may be counted amidst the few who remained in prison for the longest time. It was in his prison cell that he composed Reasons for the Independence of Korea, wherein he denounced Japanese imperialism and argued for the legitimacy of the independence.
Han Yong Woon is mostly known as the author of The Silence of My Lover (1926), which is a major collection of poems in the history of Korean literature. During his imprisonment, he wrote 15 pieces of poetry.
Han Yong Woon wrote many poems during the three years he remained in prison. His prison writings mainly reflect his dreams and ideals of freedom and independence, despite the existential agony and the critical situation he was going through. Besides sijo and Chinese poetry, a taste for free was already noticeable during this period. Just as black leaves in the mouth, poetic memories are recollected, poetic expressions bitterly recited one by one, and one by one kept inside his heart.
Among the outstanding poems that compose The Silence of My Lover, his only collection of poems in free verse, ‘I saw you’ is probably the one that reflect the most his experience of the prison cell. The following is an excerpt of the poem.
‘I saw you’ is considered to be the poem that expresses the most clearly his experience of the prison. If we drew a parallel with Southeast Asian literature, we could invoke Hō Chi Minh(胡志明, 1890-1969) who wrote the first page of the modern history of Vietnam. Just as Han Yong Woon, Hō Chi Minh was a national leader who fought for independence. There are other similarities between the two figures. Not only did they both write poetry during their imprisonment, but also both borrowed Chinese characters rather than writing in their mother tongue. Nonetheless, Hō Chi Min’s imprisonment time was shorter and his writing more abundant.
One day, Hō Chi Minh heard the sound of the flute played by another prisoner. The nostalgia and the longing of the flutist could be felt, flowing like a river through the sound of the flute as it resonated sadly.
There are differences in the way Han Yong Woon and Hō Chi Minh both mounted resistance against colonialism and fought for independence. Nonetheless, their respective prison poems share many similarities in that both men express their ideals of freedom and independence, share their consensual sense of being Asian, make use of Chinese characters to compose poetry. It is hoped that the prison poems of Han Yong Woon and Hō Chi Minh will give rise to many comparative studies and discussions.
