학명의 불교 가사에 나타난 선의 성격과 표현 방식 (A study on the characteristics of Seon(禪) and it's expression in Hak-Myeong(鶴鳴)'s Buddhist Gasa(佛敎歌辭))

초록

The monk Hak-Myeong is being considered one of the famous Buddhist Gasa poets of the late Chosun dynasty. He composed seven pieces of Gasa in Korean, probably many pieces of Gatha(偈頌), and several essays in Chinese throughout his life. But the literary works that he composed aren’t in existence so many because of his collection of literary works’s being lost. He carried out the movement of Seon practicing tradition innovation by organizing Seon and farm work during his whole life. So he expressed his characteristic thought of Seon in his Gasa by using specific expression style in unit of paragraph and work. That’s the reason I studied on the characteristics of Seon(禪) and it’s expression in Hak-Myeong’s Buddhist Gasa(佛敎歌辭).
First, I found out the facts that Hak-Myeong’s Buddhist Gasa(佛敎歌辭) has two kinds of Seon as it’s main ideas: Patriarch Seon(祖師禪) and Hwadu Seon(看話禪). Hak-Myeong expressed two kinds of the characteristics of Patriarch Seon(祖師禪) in his Buddhist Gasa as a basic ideology. The one is the thought that all things being are originally Buddha, the other is that all things being can get sudden enlightenment. And also he expressed two kinds of the characteristics of Hwadu Seon(看話禪) in his Buddhist Gasa as a practicing virtue. He insisted to do big doubt Hwadu, ‘What is this watching and hearing, feeling, understanding’ in the daily life noise at the same time of farming.
Next, I studied Hak-Myeong’s way of expressing Patriarch Seon(祖師禪) and Hwadu Seon(看話禪) in two aspects: in the level of paragraph and the literary works. In the dimension of paragraph, he used two sort of discourse: those are the discourse of suggestion and demanding. The discourse of suggestion is used to explain some informations and tell Buddha’s life, describe some objects. And the discourse of demanding is used to request people to realize his teaching together and order other people to act his teaching in their daily life. In the dimension of the literary works, he arranged the problems and the way of solving problems, the ideal world after solving problems in his works. The most of his works have the frame of the problems and the way of solving problems together. The rest works of them showed sometimes the solving problems and the ideal world after solving problems, othertimes the ideal world after solving problems separatedly. In conclusion Hak-Myeong tried to innovate The Korean Buddhist society and get much more people to practice Hwadu Seon(看話禪) in heart by teaching them with Buddhist Gasa(佛敎歌辭).
