石溪 李時明의 삶과 문학 (A Study on Seokgye Lee Si-myeong’s Life and Literature)

초록

본 연구의 목적은, 그동안 구체적인 연구가 이루어지지 않은 石溪 李時明의 생애를조명하고, 그의 문학적 지향을 구명하는 것이다. 이시명은 張興孝에게 퇴계학파의 학통을 전수받고 가학으로 학문적 성취를 확립하였다. 그의 가르침은 아들 李徽逸, 李玄逸, 손자 李栽로 이어지고, 이후 이재의 외손인 李象靖에게로 이어졌으며, 그 과정에서 퇴계학파의 대표적인 학자로 자리매김하게 되었다. 그럼에도 그에 관한 연구는 거의 없다는 점에서 본 연구는 시작되었다. 본 연구는 이시명이 중심이 되어 전승한 가학의 학풍을 밝히고, 이것이 영남 문인에게 미친 영향을 구명할 것이다. 이시명은 퇴계의 高弟들로부터 학문을 전수받은 장흥효를 장인이자 스승으로 두었다. 그는 존재이휘일, 갈암 이현일을 비롯한 7남 3녀의 다정다감한 아버지로서의 면모를 보이며 교육하고, 퇴계학맥의 전통을 가학으로 전수했다. 이는 다시 후손 밀암 이재와 대산 이상정으로 이어지며, 퇴계학통의 계보를 이었다. 이시명은 壬·丙의 전란으로 혼란한시기에 출사하지 않고 은거를 택하여 자신과 가문을 보호하였고, 결국 학문과 교육으로 큰 성취를 남길 수 있었다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to shed light on the life of Seokgye LeeSi-myeong, who has not been studied in detail, and to investigate hisliterature and thought. Lee Si-myeong inherited the Toegye school’sacademic tradition from Jang Heung-hyo and established academicachievement through Family studies. His teachings were passed on tohis sons Lee Hwui-il and Lee Hyun-il, his grandson Lee Jae, and laterto Lee Jae’s only grandson, Lee Sang-jung, and in the process heestablished himself as a representative scholar of Toegye’s school inthe 17th century. However, there are very few full-scale studies onhim. This study aims to uncover the style of Family studies centeredon Lee Si-myeong and its impact on the literati of the Youngnamregion. In addition, this study will delve deeper into Lee Si-myeong’sideas, which were the basis of the regional literary scholars’thought. Lee Si-myeong had as his father-in-law and teacher JangHeung-hyo, who received his education from the old masters of theDynasty. He acted as a loving father to his seven sons and threedaughters, including Existence Lee Hwui-il and Galam Lee Hyun-il,educating them and passing on the traditions of the Toegye lineage.
This, in turn, led to the descendants Milam Lee Jae and Daesan LeeSang-jung, who continued the lineage of Toegyehak. This study willreveal the characteristics of the Toegye school system that was passed down through Family studies, with Lee Si-myeong as the centerpiece.
His ideas are embedded in the traces of his great academicachievements as he endured his life as a cheosa(處士) during thedifficult times of the Imjinwaeran(壬辰倭亂) and the Byeongjahoran(丙子胡亂). In addition, his ideological aspects changed according to thecircumstances of the times and were accepted even by later scholars,and it will be possible to reveal the aspects that influenced theliterature and thoughts of Yeongnam writers of the 19th century.
