고전소설 리텔링(Re-telling)을 통한 창의적 사고와 자기표현 글쓰기 (Creative Thinking and Self Expression Writing through Classic Novel Re-telling)

초록

대학의 교양 글쓰기는 비판적으로 읽고 창의적으로 사고하고, 논리적으로 표현하는 것을 목표로 한다. 그러나 교육 현장에서는 한정된 시간과 제한적인 조건 때문에 ‘읽고, 쓰고, 토론’하는 과정이 원활하게 이루어지기 어렵다. 본고에서는 이와 같은 문제를 해결하고, 학습자의 자발적 참여를 유도하기 위하여 고전소설 리텔링(re-telling)을 제안하였다.
고전소설은 학습자에게 익숙한 이야기이면서 재해석의 여지가 충분한 낯선 작품이기 때문에 리텔링 대상으로 적절하다. 고전소설은 기존의 주제의식을 전복하여 고정관념을 깨뜨리는 방식, 낯선 시공간의 배경과 환상적 요소를 현실적 맥락으로 재해석 하는 방식으로 리텔링 할 수 있다. 이것은 학습자들이 초중등 교과과정에서 학습 받은 고정관념을 전복하고, 고전소설을 자신의 관점으로 재구성하는 것이다. 학습자는 ‘텍스트 선정－작품읽기－재구성－글쓰기’의 리텔링 단계를 거쳐 고전소설을 비판적으로 읽고 해석하며, 이를 글쓰기 과정에 적용하게 된다.
글쓰기 교육 현장에서 고전소설 리텔링을 통해서 자신의 생각을 글로 표현하기 위해서는 일기와 편지 형식을 활용한 자기표현 글쓰기가 효과적이다. 일기 쓰기는 학습자가 작중 인물의 내면세계와 대화함으로써 작품에 대한 이해를 높이고, 작중 인물의 상황을 통해서 자신의 생각을 정리하고 표현하는 효과를 얻을 수 있다. 편지 쓰기는 학습자가 작중 인물에게 질문을 던지는 것으로 직접적인 대화라 할 수 있다. 일기와 편지는 학습자들에게 익숙한 글쓰기 방식이기 때문에 자연스럽게 자신의 생각을 표현할 수 있고, 나의 입장에서 작중 인물에 접근하기 때문에 고전소설과 현실사회의 대화를 통해서 텍스트의 의미를 확장할 수 있다.

영어초록

General writing courses in university aim at developing critical reading, creative thinking and logical expression skills. However, due to limited time and other constraints, it is difficult to perform 'reading, writing, and discussion' curriculums smoothly in education field. In order to resolve this problem and elicit voluntary participation from students, this study suggests classic novel re-telling.
Classic novels are appropriate for re-telling since the stories of the works are familiar to students, but the works themselves are quite unfamiliar and thus have room for reinterpretation. Classic novel re-telling can be performed in a way that conventional themes are overturned, breaking fixed ideas, and the background and illusory elements of unfamiliar time and space are reinterpreted in practical context. This is equivalent to overturning the fixed ideas students acquired from their elementary and middle school courses and reorganizing classic novels from their own perspectives. Through the re-telling stages of 'selecting a text - reading the work - reorganizing - writing', students critically read and interpret classic novels and then apply what they acquired to writing.
Self expression writing using diary and letter forms is effective for developing the skills to express one's thought in writing through class novel re-telling in writing education field. Keeping a diary helps students to enhance their understanding of novels by talking with the inner voices of the characters of the novels and to organize and express their thoughts through the circumstances of the characters. Writing letters, which is equivalent to students' throwing out question to the characters, is direct dialogue. As diary and letters are familiar writing forms to students, they can naturally express their thoughts using such forms. In addition, as diary and letters allow students to access the characters of classic novels from their perspective, they can extend the meaning of the texts through dialogue with classic novels and real society.
