수도권 노인 요양 시설의 바이오필릭 디자인 적용 연구 (A Study on the Application of Biophilic Design to Nursing Facilities for the Elderly in the Seoul Metropolitan Area)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 우리나라가 초고령 사회에 접어들면서 노인들을 위한 공간들의 수요가 점차 증가하고 있다. 노인요양보장제도가 시행되면서 노인요양시설이 확충되고 있지만, 질적 환경에 대한 계획 및 개선에는 미흡함을 보이고 있다. 노인요양시설은 노인이 더는 자립이 어렵고 신체적으로 건강하지 못한 상태에서 거주하게 되는 시설인 만큼 물리적 치료뿐만 아니라 심리적 치료도 함께 이루어져야 하고 더 나아가 감성적 측면까지 고려하여 회복을 도울 수 있는 공간으로 계획되어야 한다. 현재 많은 국가에서는 자연의 경험을 통해서 치유적 환경을 조성하고 감성적 완화를 줄 수 있는 환경을 조성하는 디자인 방법론인 바이오필릭 디자인을 요양공간에 적용하는 다양한 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구는 노인의 특성을 고려한 요양 시설에 필요한 환경을 바이오필릭 디자인 방법론을 통해 분석하여 노인요양시설의 환경 개선과 더 나아가 시설에 거주하는 노인의 삶의 질을 향상할 수 있는 기초자료를 제공하는 데 그 목적이 있다. (연구방법) 연구의 방법은 첫째, 공식화된 문헌 고찰을 통해 연구 대상 노인 요양 시설로서 요양원 공간을 규정한다. 둘째, 문헌적 연구를 바탕으로 자연 친화적 노인 공간의 필요성을 찾아보고 바이오필릭 디자인의 치료적 특성요소를 추출하여 분석 모형의 기틀을 마련한다. 셋째, 분석 모형을 해외의 바이오필릭 디자인이 적용된 사례들에 적용하여 세부 요소를 도출한 뒤 분석 틀을 완성한다. 넷째, 수도권 시립 요양원들을 선정하고 홈페이지 자료와 선행연구들을 통하여 분석한다. 마지막으로 사례분석과 종합 결론에 이른다. (결과) 바이오필릭 노인 공간의 특성으로 유기적 바이오필릭 공간으로는 감각적 경험, 항상성, 유동적 시간성이 나타났다. 구조적 바이오필릭 노인 공간에서는 자연의 패턴과 프로세스의 모방성, 자연의 형태적 심미성과 천연 재료 사용이 두드러졌다. 심리적 바이오필릭 노인 공간에서는 감성적 안정성, 자립적 연결성과 반려동물과 공유성이 드러났다. (결론) 본 연구를 통하여 바이오필릭 디자인의 개념은 노인 요양시설에 필수적인 중요한 개념으로 인식해야 함을 알 수 있다. 앞으로 노인 요양원들의 수요가 증가함에 따라 통합적 표준 연구의 지속적인 필요성이 대두될 것이고, 노인들이 좀 더 편안하고 건강한 삶을 영위 할 수 있는 환경을 만드는 자연과 연결된 지속 가능한 공간으로서 바이오필릭 디자인은 그 가치와 의미가 점점 더 중요해질 것이라 판단된다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) As Korea enter a super-aged society, the demand for spaces for the elderly is gradually increasing. With the implementation of the elderly care guarantee system, elderly care facilities are being expanded, but the planning and improvement of the qualitative environment are insufficient. As elderly care facilities are the place where the elderly are no longer self-reliant and live in a physically unhealthy state, not only physical treatment but also psychological treatment should be performed, and furthermore, it should be planned as a space to help recovery in consideration of emotional aspects. Recently, various attempts are being made to apply biophilic design as a design methodology that creates a healing environment for providing emotional relief through natural experiences, to nursing spaces. The purpose of this study is to analyze the environment necessary for nursing facilities considering the characteristics of the elderly through biophilic design methodology to provide basic data to improve the environment of elderly care facilities and further improve the quality of their living. (Method) The study method first defines the nursing home space as a nursing facility for the elderly through a formal literature review. Second, based on literature research, the need for a nature-friendly elderly space is identified, and the therapeutic characteristics of biophilic design are extracted to prepare the basis for the analysis model. Third, the analysis framework is completed after deriving detailed elements by applying the analysis model to cases where biophilic design is applied overseas. Fourth, municipal nursing homes in the Seoul metropolitan area are selected and analyzed through website data and previous studies. Finally, case analysis and a comprehensive conclusion are reached. (Results) As the characteristics of the biophilic space for the elderly, the organic biophilic space of the elderly showed the sensory experience, constancy, and fluid temporality of nature. In the structural biophilic space for the elderly, the imitation of natural patterns and processes, the morphological aesthetics of nature, and the use of natural materials were prominent. In the psychological biophilic space for the elderly, emotional stability, independent connectivity, and sharing with pets were revealed. (Conclusion) The conclusion of this study shows that the concept of biophilic design should be recognized as an important concept essential for nursing homes for the elderly. In the future, as the demand for elderly nursing homes increases, the need for integrated standard research will continue to emerge. As a sustainable space connected to nature that creates an environment where the elderly can lead a more comfortable and healthy life, the value and meaning of biophilic design will become increasingly important.
