리차드 마이어 백색건축에 나타난 구조주의적 공간체계 특성에 관한 연구 (Study on Characteristics of Structuralistic Spatial system Appearing in White Architecture of Richard Meier)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 리처드 마이어는 미국을 대표하는 근 현대 건축가 가운데 가장 중요한 인물 중 한 사람이다. 그는 백색건축이라는 본인만의 독창적인 건축 조형을 주변 지역의 관계적 맥락을 통해서 잘 표현하고 있다. 리처드 마이어의 건축 특성에서 다양하고 여러 형식으로 표현특성을 설명할 수 있지만 그 중에서도 주변 자연 환경을 적극 활용하여 건축요소의 체계적인 배치를 하였고 합리적인 동선 흐름과 각 공간 프로그램 체계에 있어 논리적 전개방식을 일관적으로 표현하였다. 또한 전체구성에 있어 공간의 수평적, 수직적 전개의 방향성은 기하학적 원리를 사용하며 사용자의 시지각적 감관의 전이를 보다 폭 넓고 깊이 있게 경험 할 수 있도록 하였다. 리처드 마이어만의 백색건축은 근원의 순수성을 상징한다. 단순하고 원형으로서의 건축 공간의 표현은 외형과 내부공간에 절대적 가치를 추구하고 있다. 리처드 마이어는 공간의 비어있음과 채워있음, 물과 빛의 물성을 심미적으로 시적 표현 서술한다. 근, 현대에 이르러 과학기술의 발달과 자본주의의 급작스러운 발달은 심각한 공해와 환경파괴가 심각한 사회 문제를 대두하고 있다. 이에 발맞춰 구조주의의 철학적 사상은 근현대를 시작으로 여러 철학자들, 사상가들에 의해 태동되었다. 공간의 안과 밖, 주체사상과 구조체계, 인간의 의식과 무의식이라는 철학적 사고의 실체와 관계론은 현상학적, 해석학적 사고와 함께 이분법적으로 분류 대립되기도 하고 구조주의의 철학적 개념으로 상호 밀접한 연결의 체계적 틀을 구성하기도 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 구조주의의 철학적 개념을 관점으로 리처드 마이어의 백색 건축을 통해서 구조주의적 사유의 방법론을 통하여 그만의 건축 공간의 체계를 이루는 맥락 요소를 심층 분석 연구하고자 한다. (연구방법) 우선적으로 구조 언어학의 분류 특성인 동시성과 통시성, 계열체적 관계와 결합체적 관계, 은유법과 환유법의 개념을 정리하여 구조주의 방법론으로 건축의 맥락을 분석하는 관점으로 요약 정리한다. 첫 번째로 구조주의 철학의 사유를 공간 요소간의 기호적 맥락을 유형과 무형으로 분류하였고 정신적 형태의 맥락으로 의식의 내용과 무의식의 표현 관계성을 연구하며 관계적 대체의 맥락으로 근원과 변화의 논리적 특성으로 연구하려 한다. 두 번째로 연구 대상의 선정 및 한정은 리처드 마이어 백색건축의 대표적인 건축 작품들 9가지를 사례로 주거 공간, 상업 공간, 교육 공간을 중심으로 구조주의 건축 맥락의 키워드인 기호성,선천성,규칙성,치환성,환유성,대치성,주지성,기하학,합리성을 통해 건축공간의 특성을 분석 연구하려 한다. (결과) 이에 본 연구에서는 주변 지역 환경과 역사적 시간성의 맥락과 함께 리처드 마이어의 백색건축에 나타난 공간체계 특성을 구조주의적 철학적 사유를 기반으로 선천적 기호 구조, 환유적 치환 구조, 기하학적 주지 구조의 맥락으로 공간의 관계성을 분석 연구하였다. (결론) 리처드 마이어는 백색 건축 공간의 기호적, 정신적, 관계적 체계 안에 구조주의 철학의 특성을 가지며 동시적, 통시적, 결합체적, 계열체적 공간의 밀접한 관계를 은유하고 환유한다. 또한 건축 배치에 대한 전체공간과 세부공간으로의 연결은 주지적 체계를 가지며 논리적이며 합리적이다. 수학적 법칙을 기하학적 요소로 활용하여 연출하였고 사용자들의 공간체험의 경험을 다양한 시지각적 감관의 전이를 통해서 표현하였다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) Richard Meier is the most important person among modern and contemporary architects who represents U.S.A. He accurately expressed white architecture, his own architectural form through the relational context of neighboring areas. His white architecture symbolizes the purity of origin. His expression of simple architectural space as the archetype pursues an absolute value in external and internal space. Richard Meier describes the void and fill of space and physical properties of water and light with esthetic and poetic expressions. Along with them, many philosophers and thinkers gave birth to structuralism, a philosophical idea. The dichotomy of relations and the entity of philosophical thought, such as the inside and the outside of a space, subjective idea and structural system, and human consciousness and unconsciousness were divided through phenomenological or interpretive thoughts or sometimes constituted an interrelated systematic frame through the philosophical concept of structuralism. This study aims to analyze contextual factors in depth, composing the system of architectural space, through Richard Meier's white architecture and the methodology and thoughts of structuralism, from the perspective of the philosophical concept of structuralism. (Method) This study initially analyzes the context of architecture with the methodology of structuralism, by summarizing synchronicity and diachronicity, the categorical characteristics of structural linguistics, paradigmatic and syntagmatic relationship, and the concept of metaphor and metonymy. First, it attempts to divide the thought of structuralistic philosophy into tangible and intangible spatial factors in the semiotic context, examine conscious contents and unconscious expression relationship in the context of psychological forms and investigate the logical characteristics of origin and change, in the context of relational substitution. Second, it aims to analyze the characteristics of architectural space based on key words of structuralistic architectural context by using 9 works representing for Richard Meier's white architecture around living, commercial and educational spaces: semiotic, innateness, regularity. transposition, metonymy, confrontation, intellectualism, geometry and rationality. (Results) This study thus analyzed neighboring local environment and historical temporal context as well as spatial system's characteristics appearing in Richard Meier's white architecture, based on the philosophical through of structuralism and the spatial relationship in the context of innate semiotic structures, metonymical transposition structure and geometrical intellectual structure. (Conclusions) There are philosophical characteristics of structure in the semiotic, psychological and relationship system of Richard Meier's white architecture, and metaphor and metonymy of close relationship among synchronic, diachronic, and paradigmatic and syntagmatic spaces are used. In addition, the linkage into the whole and sub-spaces for architectural arrangement has an intellectual system and is logical and reasonable. Richard Meier produced mathematic rules by using geometric factors and expressed users' spatial experiences through the transference of various visual-perceptual sense organs.
