문암리유적의 즐문토기 분류와 편년 검토 (A Study on the Classification and Chronology of Chulmun Pottery at the Munamni Site)

초록

본 연구는 아직 논의가 분분한 동해안 조기 즐문토기의 성립 문제를 포함하여 오산리식토기의 정체성과 이전 토기문화와의 연결문제, 남해안과 동해안 조기 즐문토기문화의 상호관계 등을 분석하기 위한기초 작업으로서 중부 동해안지역의 조기 즐문토기 성격과 문화적 실상을 잘 대변해 주는 문암리유적의 토기를 재검토한 것이다.문암리유적의 토기는 문양의 형식적 속성과 특징에 따라 압날ㆍ압인문을 주요 속성으로 하는 평저 발형의 오산리식토기, 융기문토기, 단도마연토기, 두립문토기, 구순각목토기, 무문양토기와 한반도 동북지역의 연해주 토기로 추정되는 외래계토기로 구분할 수 있다.
이들 토기 중 무문양토기는 유적의 층위와 층위 간의 형식적인 특징에 따라 1군에서 3군으로 구분되며, 분석 결과 1군에서 3군으로 변화한 것으로 추정된다. 오산리식토기는 시문 형태와 문양의 종류, 구연내측의 단의 형태적 변화에 따라 7-2층과 02-1호주거지 출토품을 표식으로 하는 1군과 7-1층 출토품을중심으로 하는 2군 토기로 분류할 수 있으며, 1군에서 2군으로의 변화가 예상된다.
융기문토기는 층위와 형식적인 특징 등을 통해 볼 때 크게 문암리 7~8층에서 출토되는 융기대문토기와 같이 전형적인 남해안식의 특징을 보이는 1군 토기와 오산리 C지구 주거지 출토 융기문토기와 같이정연하지 못한 융기선문을 시문한 2군 토기로 구분되며, 층위와 절대연대로 보아 1군이 선행하고 2군이 후행하는 것으로 판단된다.
문암리토기 문화는 토기의 형식적인 특징과 층위, 방사성탄소연대를 근거로 볼 때 크게 3단계로 편년할 수 있는데, 문암리 1기는 최하층의 무문양토기를 표식으로 하는 단계이며, 2기는 전형적인 오산리식1군 토기와 2군 무문양토기가 주체를 이루는 단계이며, 3기는 3군 무문양토기, 2군 오산리식토기, 2군융기문토기 중심을 이루는 단계이다.
문암리유적의 토기 분석을 통해 볼 때 중부 동해안지역의 조기 즐문토기는 오산리 C지구 최하층식토기⇒ 문암리 하층식토기(문암리 1기) ⇒ 전형적인 오산리식토기(문암리 2기) ⇒ 문암리 3기 및 오산리 C 지구 상층식토기로 변천해 간 것으로 추정된다.

영어초록

This study aims to lay down the groundwork for discussions on the controversial issue of the establishment of the early Chulmun Pottery of the east coast, the identity of Osanri-style ware and its relationship with the previous pottery culture, and the interrelation between the two. This study also presents the basic work for the analysis of the correlation between the early Chulmun pottery culture of the southern and eastern coasts of Korea. To achieve the purpose of this study, the pottery of the Munamni site, which represents the characteristics of the early Chulmun Pottery of the central east coast and its culture is reexamined.
The pottery of the Munamni site can be categorized, according to type attributes and characteristics of pattern, into Osanri-style ware, raised design ware, red burnished ware, bean impressed ware, plain coarse pottery, and foreign pottery (with origins in the Maritime Province) which comes from the northeast region of the Korean Peninsula.
Of these pottery types, plain coarse pottery is classified into groups 1 to 3, depending on the horizons and type characteristics of the remains. From the analysis, it is presumed that the pottery changed from group 1 to group 3.
Osanri-style ware can be classified into two groups according to the types of patterns and the methods by which they were rendered, as well as the change in the form of inner rim step. Group 1 mainly consists of excavated artifacts from the 7-2 horizon and then 02-1 residence. Group 2 mainly consists of excavated artifacts from the 7-1 horizon. This pottery type is expected to have changed from group 1 to group 2.
Raised-design ware can be largely classified into two groups, depending on the horizons and type characteristics. Group 1, comprising raised-design ware with band patterns found between Munamni horizons VII and VIII, demonstrates typical characteristics of the south coast. Group 2 is represented by irregular line patterns, such as that observed in the raised-design ware from the C district residence of Osanri. Judging from the horizons and absolute chronology, it is presumed that group preceeded group 2. Three chronological stages can be established for the Munamni pottery culture, based on the type characteristics, horizons and radiocarbon dating.
Munamni stage 1 is represented by plain coarse pottery from the lowermost horizon, and stage 2 is mainly represented by (typical) group 1 Osanri-style ware and group 2 plain coarse pottery. Stage three mainly consists of group 3 plain coarse pottery, group 2 Osanri-style ware, and group 2 raised design ware. From the analysis on the pottery of the Munamni site, the early Chulmun pottery of the central east coast is presumed to have experienced the following transformations: the pottery style of the lowermost horizon of Osanri C district→the pottery style of the lower horizon of Munamni (Munamni stage 1) → the pottery style of typical Osanri-style ware (Munmani stage 2) → the pottery style of Munamni stage 3 and the upper horizon of Osanri C district.
