呼吸律 再論과 基底律 生成에 對한 考察 －時調와 俗談을 中心으로－ (Study On the Formation of Fundamental Meter In Korean Poetry Including rearguing on Breath Rhythm －Focusing on Sizo(時調) and Proverb－)

초록

본고에서는 時調의 律格論이 가진 근본적인 한계를 지적하고 어떻게 近代詩歌의 율격 논의와 古典詩歌의 율격 현상을 脈絡化 할 것인지에 대해 고민하였다. 1920년대 이후 활발히 연구되었던 근대적 시가율격론이 外來 詩律의 단순 도입이 아니라 고전시가의 基底律과 맞닿아 있음을 논증하였다. 이를 위해 시조를 口碑文學이라는 관점에서 조명하고 시조의 律讀에 관여하였을 ‘呼吸律’의 가능성에 대해 논의하였다. 16세기의 訓民時調와 開化期에 계몽적 성격을 띤 詩歌 文學이 대중들의 吟誦이나 歌唱을 전제로 만들어졌고, 4․4조처럼 單純律의 반복을 基調로 한다는 공통점이 있다. 말하자면 暗誦을 위한 장치로서의 음송이나 朗誦이라는 口演文學의 특징이 나타나는 바, 이런 특징은 俗談에서도 찾아볼 수 있다. 洪萬宗의 「旬五志」에서부터 시작하여 근대의 속담집에 이르기까지 속담에 대한 관심과 속담 속에 담겨 있는 운율적 장치에 대해 논의하였고 이를 토대로 구연문학에서의 낭송 방식이 시가에도 활용될 수 있음을 주장하였다.

영어초록

This paper was originally designed to reflect the metrical study in Korean poetry. Korean metrical study in which the earlier researchers defined Korean meter as Syllabic rhythm and Feet rhythm started its study from considering the form and metric system of Sizo(時調). In this thesis I pointed out the fundamental limitation which theories on metric system of Sizo, contemplating how to connect Korean modern metric theories and metrical phenomena in Korean classic poetry. I argued that Korean Modern metric theory which had been actively studied since 1920's was made not just by introduction of foreign theories, but by connection with fundamental rhythm which Classic poetry originally contained. For the more indepth demonstration I shed new light on Sizo at the angle of Oral literature and probed into possibilities of ‘Breath rhythm' which would be involved in metric reading on Sizo. This is also treated as an extension of ‘Breath rhythm' which modern researches had mentioned in Korean modern poetry,There are common characteristics between Hunmin(enlightenment) Sizo of 16th century and early modern poetry which were educative in that each poetry had been made for folk's singing or recitation, and based on the repetition of simple rhythm such as a set of 4․4(syllabic metric system). These poetries contain some devices for memorizing, that are a way of recitation or reading, which could be defined as characteristics of oral literature. We can find similar phenomena in proverbs or riddles. So I examined some metric devices of proverbs from that of Hongmanjong's <Sunoji>(旬五志) to corpus of modern proverb, arguing that the tradition of recitation in oral literature could be applied to poetry like Hunmin(訓民:enlightenment) Sizo or modern educative poetry.
The metric phenomena when Sizo is read as lyric is that the former phrase and the latter phrase are not only rhyming couplets in meanings, but also breath couplets in breathing, namely beginning breath phrase and ending breath phrase. Suggesting examples showing that breath is used as metric device, I argued the possibility of breath rhythm as a fundamental rhythm in korean poetry and the necessity of changing researcher oriented metrics into reader oriented metrics.
