한경직 연구의 관점 : 기독교적 건국론 (The Viewpoint of the Study of Han Kyung-Chik : The Building of Christian State)

초록

본고는 한경직 인물연구를 기독교적 건국론의 관점으로 재구성하여 그 타당성을 설명하고 앞으로의 연구 과제를 제시하였다. 한경직은 일제강점기와 민족분단의 격동기를 거치면서 민족의식을 깊이 체득한 목회자였으며 일평생 민족구원을 위한 기독교적 메시지를 전했던 인물이다. 그러므로 지금까지 한경직 연구는 기독교의 범주 안에서 신앙과 신학적 성격규명을 중심으로 내려왔지만 한경직의 생애를 한국 근현대 흐름에 따라 해석해야 할 필요가 있다. 한경직의 생애와 활동은 ‘기독교적 민족의식’의 내적 동기에서 시작되었고 본고는 구체적으로 한경직의 기독교적 민족의식을 기독교적 건국론이라 명명하였다.
한경직의 기독교적 건국론은 민족구원을 위한 기독교적 민족의식의 표출이다. 기독교적 건국론의 세 가지 요소인 '기독교, 신문명, 애국'은 그가 생애 초기에 받았던 민족주의가 기반된 기독교적 교육의 영향에서 시작되어 그의 생애 전체를 포괄하는 생애이념으로 발전하였다. 즉 한경직의 기독교적 건국론은 한민족의 시대적 과제를 발견하고 성취해 가는 것이 민족구원이라고 인식하는 민족구원론이다.
기독교적 건국론은 민족구원을 위한 세 가지 측면, 즉 종교, 경제, 정치적 구원을 의미한다. 종교적 구원(기독교)이란 한민족을 부흥시키기 위한 정신적 측면을 의미하며 사회경제적 구원(신문명)이란 민족의 생존구조를 세우고 분배정의를 실현하기 위한 사회경제적 측면을 의미하고 정치적 구원(애국)이란 민족 구성원의 기본권을 보장하고 국가적 권리를 확보하기 위한 정치적 측면을 의미한다. 한경직의 기독교적 건국론은 종교적 구원뿐 아니라 민족의 정치적, 사회경제적 구원의 필요성을 강조한 한민족의 현실적 구원론이자 기독교적 민족의식의 표출이다.

영어초록

This study reconstructed a previous study on Han Kyung-Chik’s character from the point of view of the national Christianity foundation, and explained its validity as well as presented the subjects of related studies.
Han Kyung-Chik was a pastor who poignantly developed a national consciousness while experiencing the turbulent periods of the Japanese colonial rule and the division of the Korean nation. He conveyed the Christian message of the salvation of Korea throughout his lifetime. Studies have been conducted on him that mainly examined religious and theological characters within the framework of Christianity. His life must be interpreted, however, along with the flow of Korea’s modern times. His life and activities began with the inner motive of a ‘national Christian consciousness.’ In this study, his national Christian consciousness was named ‘national Christianity foundation.’
Han Kyung-Chik’s national Christianity foundation is a type of national Christian consciousness for the salvation of Korea. Its three factors-Christianity, a new civilization, and patriotism--began with the influences of the nationalistic Christian education he received in his early life and which later developed into the ideology that he embraced throughout his life. In other words, Han Kyung-Chik’s national Christianity foundation can be called the discourse on Korea’s national salvation based on which the nation’s tasks during these times were defined and fulfilled.
The national Christianity foundation refers to the three aspects of national salvation: religious salvation, economic salvation, and political salvation. Religious salvation (Christianity) refers to the spiritual factors that will rehabilitate the nation; economic salvation (new civilization), to the socioeconomic factors hat will establish the structure for the survival of society and will actualize equitable distribution of justice; and political salvation (patriotism), to the political factors that will guarantee the basic rights of Koreans and secure the nation’s rights. Han Kyung-Chik’s national Christianity foundation does not lead to merely religious salvation but also forms the foundation of a realistic national salvation theory that emphasizes the need for political and socioeconomic salvation with a national Christian consciousness.
