초록

본 논문은 몰트만의 통전적 구원론의 구조와 성격 및 내용을 분석하고, 특히 한국교회와 신학에서의 실천적 함의를 고찰함으로써 그 신학적의의를 평가하고자 하는 것이다. 몰트만의 구원론은 비록 체계적인 저술의 방식을 띠고 있지 않지만 방대한 그의 저서 속에서 포괄적으로 다루어진다. 그의 구원론은 통전적 성격을 지닌다. 영혼과 육체의 전인적 구원, 개인과 사회의 구원, 인류와 피조물의 통전적 구원이 강조된다. 그의 구원론은 철저히 삼위일체적인 구조 속에서 전개되며, 죄와 속죄에 대한 통전적 해석을 기초로 하여 총체적이며 역동적인 차원의 구원의 과정 이해를보여준다.
그는 전통적인 속죄의 개념을 현대적으로 재해석하고 칭의의 개념을수정 보완하고자 하며 성화의 영역을 확대하고 성화의 차원을 다각적으로심화하고자 노력한다. 현대신학자 중 그 누구보다도 몰트만에게서는 우주적 생태학적 구원의 차원이 비중 있게 다루어진다.
이러한 몰트만의 구원론은 특히 구원론에 관한 통전적 접근이 요청되는 한국교회와 신학계에 신선한 통찰력과 함께 소중한 자양분을 제공해준다. 영육 이원론에 근거한 건강하지 못한 신앙과 개인의 영혼구원에 초점이 맞추어져 있는 목회와 사회적·역사적·생태학적 책임에 소홀한 현금한국교회의 현실을 고려해 볼 때, 몰트만의 통전적 구원이해는 구원론 정립에 있어서 매우 의미 있는 기준과 방향성을 보여준다. 물론 상당히 부정적인 평가를 받고 있는 그의 만유구원론은 한국교회와 신학계가 일반적으로 쉽게 받아들일 수 없는 주장이며 여전히 논쟁적인 주제임을 부인할 수없다. 또한 개인의 구원보다 사회구조적 차원의 구원에 더 비중이 주어진것은 그의 구원론의 강점이면서 동시에 약점이라고 할 수 있다.
그럼에도 불구하고 몰트만의 통전적 구원이해는 세계 신학계에 지대한 영향력을 미치고 있으며, 특히 에큐메니칼 진영과 복음주의 진영으로양분되어 있는 한국교회의 구원이해에 비판적 근거와 과제를 안겨준다.
동시에 한국교회의 삶과 실천적 적용을 위한 방향을 제시하고 있다는 점에서 그 신학적 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 이렇게 몰트만의 통전적 구원론에 대한 체계적인 분석과 평가를 수행함으로써 본 연구는 한국교회와 신학의 삶과 실천적 적용을 위한 작은 발걸음을 내딛을 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영어초록

This paper seeks to evaluate the theological significance of Jürgen Moltmann’s holistic soteriology by analyzing its structure, nature and content, and by considering its implications for the Korean church and for Korean theology. Although Moltmann’s soteriology is not written in a systematic manner, it is comprehensively addressed in his extensive works. Moltmann’s soteriology is holistic in character. His soteriology emphasizes the salvation of the whole person(body and soul), the salvation of both the individual and society, and the holistic salvation of mankind and nature. Moltmann adheres to a strictly trinitarian structure in advancing his soteriology and demonstrates a generally dynamic understanding of the order of salvation(ordo salutis) based on a holistic interpretation of sin and atonement. He attempts to reinterpret the traditional notion of atonement and to revise and supplement the concept of justification, as well as to deepen the multilateral dimensions of and expand upon the realm of sanctification.
More than any other contemporary theologian, Moltmann gives weight to the cosmic and ecological dimension of soteriology.
Moltmann’s soteriology thus provides valuable nutrition, together with refreshing insight, for the Korean church and for Korean theology which call for a holistic approach especially with respect to soteriology.
In view of the present reality of the Korean church, which suffers from unhealthy, mind–body dualism–based faith, ministries with undue emphasis on personal salvation of the soul, as well as neglect of social, historical and ecological responsibilities, Moltmann’s holistic understanding of salvation presents a very meaningful standard and orientation for the formation of soteriology. Needless to say, Moltmann’s universal salvation(Apokatastasis), which has been subject to considerable criticism, is not something that the Korean church and Korean theology can easily accept and thus continues to remain a matter of dispute. In addition, that Moltmann’s soteriology gives more weight to the dimension of social structure than to personal salvation, is not only a strength but simultaneously a weakness in his soteriology. Nevertheless, Moltmann’s holistic understanding of salvation has profoundly impacted world theology and in particular presents both a basis for criticism of and a challenge to the understanding of salvation in the Korean church. At the same time, Moltmann’s soteriology hold theological significance in that it proposes direction for life and practical application on the part of the Korean church. In thus carrying out a systematic analysis and evaluation of Moltmann’s holistic soteriology, this paper hopes to take a small step toward the practical application for the Korean church and for Korean theology.
