증공의 홍범학과 체용론 (An Essay on Zeng Gong’s Adapting the Theory of Ti with Yong through his Commentary of the Great Plan in the Book of Documents)

초록

증공은 북송의 문학자로 알려져 있지만, 경학과 이학에 공헌한 바가 크다. 그의 작품 가운데 「홍범전」은 『상서』 「홍범」을 대상으로 이학, 특히 체용론의 관점에서 주석한 경학 작품이다. 본고는 총론, 각론, 결론으로 구성된 「홍범전」 가운데 경학으로서 홍범학의 성과와 이학으로서 체용론의 성과가 집약된 총론을 대상으로 증공의 홍범학과 체용론을 해명했다. 총론은 5개 단락으로 구성되어 있으며 주요 논점은 다음과 같다. ① 무왕과 대화하는 기자가 과거를 불러내 교육적 전형을 제시하는 데서 상리 개념을 제시한다. ② 전지적 화자가 과거의 일회적 사건이 아닌 현존하는 일반 법칙을 서술하고 홍수/치수 사건의 의미를 되새기는 데서 상륜 개념을 제시한다. ③ 구양수의 의고주의에 대한 비판이며 「홍범」의 의의에 대한 옹호이다. ④ 중국 정치사상의 전형으로서 「홍범」의 구조를 체용론에 따라 분명히 밝히고, 현실적 실체 개념으로 오행을 규정한다. ⑤ 홍범구주 가운데 오행 이후의 8가지를 다시 불러내서 구주=구용이라는 견해를 밝힌 다음 체용론에 입각해 수양론을 전개한다.
증공 홍범학의 경학적 성과는 구양수를 대표로 하는 의고주의의 회의론에 대한 비판과 기존 홍범학의 성과를 종합한 것이다. 이학적 성과는 체용론을 구사하여 증공 이전 홍범학의 여러 개념과 구도를 철저하게 선별, 종합, 재구성했다는 점이다. 이학 작품으로서 「홍범전」의 개념과 구도는 훗날 주자학의 형성에도 영향을 미치게 된다.

영어초록

This essay is my reflection on which had its origin in Zeng Gong’s Commentary of the Great Plan in the Book of Documents. Zeng has been a famous writer of the Northern Sung Dynasty, but it also have not been well known to his great contribution to the classical study and the Neo-Confucianism. There were many scholars who studied the Great Plan in the Northern Sung Dynasty, they began to explore who was the principal agent of the new power field, as well as they needed new logic of this subject for justification in the Chinese Classics. The theory of Ti with Yong had emerged as a good solution at the moment, Zeng adopted the theory when he annotated his Commentary of the Great Plan, it was a work of the classical study from the point of view of Neo-Confucianism. His meritorious achievement in the range of classical study were the criticism of skepticism on the Chinese Classics represented by Ou-yang Xiu and a synthesis of the many existing studies on the Great Plan. In the range of Neo-Confucianism, he thoroughly used the theory of Ti with Yong to select the existing studies and to reconstruct it for the aggregation. His Commentary is composed of 3 parts: General introduction, Particulars, and Conclusion, my essay focuses on General introduction. The General introduction consists of 5 parts and each main contents and themes are as follows: ① Qizi who talked to King Wu of the Zhou Dynasty, presented the concept of Chang-li as the universal order in bringing up the past and presenting educational paradigm. ② The omniscient speaker presents the concept of Chang-lun as the moral order in describing general laws, not an event of the past. ③ It was a criticism of Ou-yang Xiu’s skepticism and a defense against the significance of the Great Plan. ④ According to the theory of Neo-Confucian Ti with Yong, the structure of the Great Plan was clearly revealed as the epitome of Chinese political thought, and the Five-Elements was defined as the realizable substantial being. ⑤ Among the Nine-Principles of the Great Plan, eight of them were recalled except the Five-Elements, they were declared as the Nine Utilities, and then Zeng developed a theory of discipline based on the theory of Ti with Yong.
