송완순의 아동문학론 연구 (A Study on Children’s Literary Theory of Song Wansoon)

초록

송완순은 일제강점기와 해방기를 통틀어 지속적으로 작품과 비평 활동을 전개한 아동문학가이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 지금까지 그에 대한 이렇다 할 연구가 없고 따라서 알려진 것도 많지 않다. 이 논문에서는 송완순과 그의 아동문학론을 살펴보기 위해 작가연보와 작품연보를 작성하였다. 작품을 확정하기 위해 여러 개의 필명을 확인하는 작업이 필요했다.
송완순은 1920년대 중후반부터 해방 후 월북할 때까지 일관되게 계급문학적 입장을 유지하였다.
일제강점기 송완순의 비평은 논쟁을 통한 아동문학 이론 정립, 소년운동과 프롤레타리아 아동문학론, 아동의 연령 논쟁, 동요와 동시 구분 논쟁 등으로 구분해 볼 수 있다. 아동문학의 형성기라 할 시기임에도 송완순은 당대 아동문학의 주요 논점을 파악하는 능력과 정확한 문장력을 바탕으로 한 논지 전개 등으로 아동문학 비평의 수준을 일정 부분 끌어올렸다는 평가를 받을 만했다. 일본 아동문학가들의 주장을 일방적으로 수용하기에 급급했던 당대 문단 수준에서 드물게 비판적으로 수용하고자 한 것도 이러한 평가를 하도록 하였다.
해방기 송완순의 아동문학론은 ‘문건’과 ‘동맹’의 노선을 따랐다. 처음 ‘문맹’에 소속되었으나 단체의 분립과 아동문화 운동의 역량을 분산하는 것이 옳지 않다며 ‘문건’과 ‘동맹’의 노선을 따른 것이었다. 알다시피 ‘문건’과 ‘문맹’으로 갈라진 좌익 문학 단체가 ‘문건’ 중심으로 통합된 것은 조선공산당의 명령에 따른 것이었고 이념적 배경은 ‘8월 테제’에 있었다.
해방기 아동문학이 해야 할 일은 새로운 나라의 건설과 맞물려 있었기 때문에 정치 이념과 분리되지 않는 것은 당연한 결과라 할 것이다. 송완순의 아동문학론도 정치이념과 같이 봉건 유제와 일제 잔재 청산 및 진보적 민주주의 노선에 초점을 맞추고 있었다. 이를 위해 일제강점기 아동문학을 반성적으로 돌아보고 향후의 방향을 모색하는데 주력했다. 일제강점기 아동문학을 사적으로 검토하면서 크게 천사적 아동문학과 진보적(계급적) 아동문학으로 나누었다. 천사적 아동문학은 방정환류의 감상적 천사주의와 윤석중류의 낙천적 천사주의로 다시 세분하였다. 현실을 아예 외면한 낙천적 천사주의가 더 나쁘다고 평가하였다.
남은 문제는 아동문학 작품과 비평을 연결시켜 종합적인 송완순 연구를 하는 것이다. 덧붙여 일반 문학 활동도 적지 않은데 이것에 대한 검토도 필요하다고 생각된다. 대중예술, 농민예술, KAPF에 관한 글들을 면밀하게 분석하면 아동문학 연구에 도움이 될 부분이 있을 것으로 보인다.

영어초록

Song Wansoon was an author of children’s literature through the Japanese colonial period and liberation period. He wrote lots of children’s songs, poems and children’s literary theories about theoretical criticism and practical criticism.
Nevertheless, he have not been known till now as a writer of children’s literature. Thus, this paper intends to examine his literary theories of children’s literature. Chronology of his life and chronological listing of the works had been done in advance. Since he had used many pen names, verifying identifications of these various pen names was necessary. Most of these identification had been based on definite evidence, but some had to be relied on rational deduction.
Song Wansoon consistently maintained his pursuit on proletarian literature from mid 1920s to until he defected to North Korea.
This paper classifies literary criticisms of Song Wansoon in Japanese colonial period into following labels: establishment of theory of children’s literature by argument, Youth Movement and proletariat theory of children’s literature, argument on age of children, and dispute of classification of children’s song and children’s poem.
Song Wansoon followed line of ‘Joseon munhak geonseol bonbu’(hereafter, ‘mungeon’) and ‘Joseon munhakga dongmaeng’ (hereafter, ‘dongmaeng’) in period of liberation. He was first engaged in ‘Joseon proletariat munhak dongmaeng’(hereafter, ‘munmaeng’), but moved to follow line of ‘mungeon’ and ‘dongmaeng’ after he decided himself against separation of organization. In this period, his ideological background is based on August These(Contemporary Situation and Our Duty) of Park Heonyeong.
Due to the fact that goal of children’s literature in period of liberation is closely linked with establishment of new nation, it is natural for contemporary children’s literature to be not separated with political ideology. Song Wansoon’s literary theory on children’s literature also focuses on liquidation of feudality and vestiges of Japanese imperialism as in accordance with his political belief.
When historically reviewing children’s literature in Japanese colonial era, he had broadly divided literatures in two classification: angelic children’s literature, and progressive(class- conscious) children’s literature. The classification then subdivides again as ‘sentimental angelicism’ which regards children as sentimental angels like those of Bang Jeonghwan, and as ‘optimistic angelicism’ which regards children as optimistic angels like those of Yoon Seokjoong. Song Wansoon estimates ‘optimistic angelicism’ to be worse.
The remaining issue is to study Song Wansoon synthetically by linking work of children’s literature and its criticism. General literary activities are not inconsiderable, thus examination on these works is thought to be of necessity. It is expected to be of help in study on children’s literature, if his writings on the popular arts, the peasant arts, and on KAPF is closely examined.
