1950년대 현대시의 난해성론과 비평 방법론의 모색 (The Debates on the Abstruseness of the Modern Poetry and the Search for New Critical Methodologies in the 1950s)

초록

1950년대는 현대성에 관한 논의가 본격적으로 진행된 시대이다. 현대문명의 복잡성이 문학, 특히 시의 난해함을 발생시키고, 이로 인해 시의 난해성이 1950년대 문단의 비판적 대상으로 자리하게 된다. 그리고 시의 일반적 특질로서의 난해성과 역사적특수성을 반영하는 시의 난해성을 변별하는 과정에서 전통론과 모더니즘론, 실존주의문학론, 민족문학론 등의 다양한 문학론이 함께 논의된다. 현대시의 난해성론은 정신사적 맥락에서는 현대성과 결부되지만, 사회역사적 맥락에서는 신구 세대의 문제와이중언어의 문제에 맞닿아 있다. 때문에 난해성론은 현대와 언어에 대한 몰이해와 지적 교양의 문제로 확장되고, 궁극적으로 작가(표현), 작품(현대성), 독자(교양) 모두가문제적이라는 결론에 도달하게 된다. 신세대와 구세대, 전통론자와 모더니스트의 구분없는 비판적 반성이 전개되고, 이로 인해 새로운 돌파구로서의 비평의 역할이 강조되기에 이른다. 1956년 난해의 대명사인 시인 이상의 전집이 출간되면서 다양한 비평방법론이 이상 문학의 분석에 활용되는데, 이렇게 인상비평의 한계를 극복한 분석적 비평이 활성화됨에 따라 현대시의 난해성에서 비롯된 갈등과 대립이 대화적 관계를형성하게 된다.

영어초록

The purpose of this article is to examine the process of the debates on the abstruseness of modern poetry in the postwar period, and to clarify the fact that various critical methodologies were sought. A series of events in the postwar literary world, such as the confrontation between traditionalism and modernism, the debate of the new generation, the emergence of new criticism and the re-examination of Lee Sang's literature, are based on the problem of the abstruseness. After the Korean War, writers were making conflicting claims about the direction of Korean literature at the two extremes of tradition and modernity. Modernists emphasized the realism of the work, while traditionalists emphasized the artistic quality of the work. In other words, traditionalists criticized the incompetence of modernists who lacked the ability to express themselves, and modernists criticized the inability of traditionalists to express reality in literary works.
The debates on the abstruseness was triggered by the problem of abstruseness in modernism poetry, but the more the debate continues, the more it spreads to the problem of inaccurate understanding of modernity and lack of intellectual culture, developing into a critical reflection of the entire literary world. As the writer(expression), work(modernity), and reader(culture) are all problematic, the role of criticism as a new breakthrough is emphasized, and alternatives are presented to overcome the methodological limitations of existing criticism.
The new generation of critics introduced 'New criticism' and approached the literature of 'Lee Sang' in various ways in an effort to open up new possibilities of criticism.
