대화적 성령론: 대화론에서 바라본 필리오케(Filioque) 논쟁 (Dialogical Pneumatology: Filioque Controversy in the light of Dialogism)

초록

본 논문은 러시아 언어철학자 미하일 바흐친(Michael M. Bakhtin)의 대화론(Dialogism)을 통해 1500년 이상 지속된 동ㆍ서방교회의 필리오케 논쟁(Filioque controversy)을 종식시키고 신학적 논쟁과 분열을 넘어서는 하나의해석학적 대안을 제시하고자 한다. 기독교 역사에서 성령에 대한 많은 논의와논쟁이 있었지만, 그 논의의 핵심에 필리오케 논쟁이 있었다. 필리오케 교리는성령의 “이중 나오심”(double procession)에 대한 논의로서 성령이 성부로부터나오실 때 동시적으로 성자로부터도 나오신다는 서방교회의 이론이다. 서방교회는 필리오케 교리를 통하여 성자와 성령의 신적 관계를 설명하면서 그리스도의 신성을 강조하였다. 반면에 동방교회는 “성령 훼방론자”들과의 신학적논쟁으로 성령의 위격에 대한 깊은 관심을 가지고 있었기 때문에 삼위의 관계성을 잘 설명할 수 있는 페리코레시스(perichoresis)를 강조하였다. 필리오케 논쟁을 통해 나타난 동ㆍ서방교회의 차이는 강조점과 관점의 차이다. 기독교회의 연합과 통일은 ‘차이’를 ‘차별’과 ‘분열’의 근거로 받아들이지 않고, ‘차이’를 ‘다름’과 ‘공존’으로 이해하면서 타자와의 연대와 화합의 동시적 모색이 가능한 해석학적 열쇠를 통해 가능하다.
바흐친에 의하면 동전의 양면을 동시에 볼 수 없듯이 인간의 관점은 진리의 한쪽만 바라볼 수 있다. 그것이 완전한 관점을 가지려면 또 다른 한쪽과 끊임없는 대화적 관계(dialogical relationship)를 형성하여야 한다. 본 논문은 동ㆍ서방교회의 갈등과 분열의 원인으로서 필리오케 논쟁의 해결 방법으로 동ㆍ서방교회의 상호 대화적 관계를 제안한다. 동ㆍ서방교회의 신학적 충돌과 갈등의원인은 종교적 교조주의와 각 진영의 상황적 차이에서 비롯되어 굳어진 비대칭적 편향성에 근거하고 있다. 동ㆍ서방교회의 필리오케에 관한 긍정적 해석학적 관점이 교회의 화합과 발전을 이끄는 것이 아닌 갈등과 분열의 원인이 되었다. 양 진영 모두 신학적 정당성을 담아내고 있기에 어느 한쪽의 일방적 편견이아닌 바흐친의 대화적 관계 안에서 중재적 대화가 필요하다. 본 논문은 동ㆍ서방교회 어느 한쪽의 일방적 독점이나 수용이 아닌 상호의존적, 상호공존적 관계에서 해석학적 논의를 제안한다. 본 논문이 제안하는 동ㆍ서방교회 간의 대화적 관계는 하나의 사회적 공동체를 형성할 수 있는 의미 있는 시도이며, 바흐친의 대화론이 기독교 내에 존재하는 갈등과 분열의 구조를 극복할 수 있는 해석학적 대안으로서 기독교의 미래에 많은 희망과 도전을 줄 것이다.

영어초록

Through the Dialogism of Russian linguistic philosopher Michael M. Bakhtin, this paper aims to solve the Filioque Controversy between Eastern and Western Church which has lasted for more than 1,500 years, and to provide a hermeneutical alternative that goes beyond theological debates and divisions. Although there have been many discussions and debates about the Holy Spirit in Christian history, the Filioque Controversy has been at the core of discussion. The doctrine of the Filioque is a discussion of the “Double Procession” of the Holy Spirit, the theory of Western Church that when the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father, the Spirit also proceeds simultaneously from the Son. Through the doctrine of the Filioque, Western Church emphasized the divinity of Christ by explaining the divine relationship between the Son and the Spirit. On the other hand, the Eastern Church emphasized perichoresis, which could explain the relationship of the Trinity well, because it was deeply concerned with the Person of the Holy Spirit due to the theological controversy with the “combators against the Spirit.” The difference between Eastern and Western Churches that emerged from the Filioque Controversy is a difference in emphasis and perspective. The unity and unification of the Christian Church is possible through hermeneutic key that does not accept ‘difference’ as grounds for ‘discrimination’ and ‘division’, but understands ‘difference’ as ‘difference’ and ‘co-existence’ and simultaneously seeks solidarity and harmony with others.
According to Bakhtin, as it is impossible to see two sides of a coin at the same time, the human perspective can only see one side of the truth. It must be in constant dialogical relationship with the other side in order to have a complete perspective. This paper proposes a mutual dialogue relationship between the Eastern and Western Churches as a way to resolve the Filioque Controversy which is a cause of conflict and division in the Eastern and Western Churches. The theological conflict and division between the Eastern and Western Churches stem from asymmetrical biases that have been solidified due to religious dogmatism and contextual differences in each side. The positive hermeneutic perspective of the Eastern and Western Churches on the Filioque did not lead to the harmony and development of the Church, but to the cause of conflict and division. Since both sides have theological justifications, there is a need for a mediated dialogue within Bakhtin’s dialogical relationship, rather than unilateral prejudice on either side. This paper proposes a hermeneutic discussion between the Eastern and Western Churches in an interdependent and mutual co-existent relationship, not one of dominance or acceptance by either side. The dialogical relationship between Eastern and Western Churches proposed in this paper is a meaningful attempt to form a social community, and Bakhtin’s dialogism will offer much hope and challenges for the future of Christianity as a hermeneutical alternative that can overcome the structures of conflict and division that exist within Christianity.
