초록

『瑜伽師地論』의 현존하는 주석서인 慈恩 窺基의 『瑜伽師地論略纂』과 新羅 道倫의 『瑜伽論記』는 當代 유식학에 대한 이해와 많은 論師들의 관점을 알 수 있는 귀중한 자료이다. 그러나 양 주석서의 평가에 있어서 『瑜伽論記』가 『瑜伽師地論略纂』을 답습하고 있는 것이 아닌가 하는 문제와 수많은 諸師의 說, 經論 등을 단지 나열하는 방식으로 찬집하고 있는 것이 아닌가 하는 문제에 대해서는 이를 반증하는 연구가 미진하다. 『論』의 역출 이후, 주석서가 60여종에 달했던 것으로 알려져 있는데 道倫은 어떤 의도와 차별성으로 『瑜伽論記』라는 주석서를 찬집했는지 그의 주석을 통해 유추해 보는 것이 본 논문의 주제이다. 이를 위해 『略纂』과 『倫記』의 「攝決擇分」 ‘五識身相應地意地’를 표본집단으로 全數調査했다. 전수조사를 시도함에 있어 양 주석서 전체를 대상으로 하면 더욱 면밀한 조사가 이뤄지겠지만, 『論』100권의 방대한 분량이 문제가 되므로 「攝決擇分」30권의 분량을 선택했다. 「攝決擇分」은 「本地分」50권에서 다하지 못한 不了義를 決擇하는 것으로 내용이 축약적이며 深隱要義를 밝히는 부분이기 때문이다. 또한 『略纂』이 『論』 66권까지만 주석하고 있기 때문에 「攝決擇分」 이전 분량에서만 비교, 분석이 가능하다.
「攝決擇分」 ‘五識身相應地意地’의 全數調査에서 나타난 道倫 주석의 특징은 세 가지로 요약할 수 있다.
첫째, 道倫은 『論』의 내용을 면밀하게 科文하고 있다.
둘째, 諸師들이 주석하고 있지 않거나 미진한 부분은 道倫이 직접 주석하고 있다.
셋째, 알려진 바와 같이 다양한 論師들의 주석이 인용되고 있지만 『略纂』과는 다르게 道倫의 판단과 의도에 의해 보충, 보완, 첨삭, 재배치되는 주석들이 적지 않다.
道倫의 면밀한 科文은 해당 내용에 관계되는 諸師들의 說과 異見들, 經論 등을 적절하게 배치, 인용하는 효과를 내기 위함으로 생각된다. 만약 해석이 미흡한 부분이 있다면 자신이 직접 주석을 하고 있다는 것 또한 특징이다. 이러한 科文과 인용태도는 道倫의 판단과 의도가 더해진 것으로, 내용에 대한 이해를 높여줄 뿐 아니라 諸師의 다양한 관점을 접하게 해준다. 더불어 『略纂』에서는 배제되고 있는 新羅 學僧들의 수많은 주석을 인용하여 그 위상을 높이고 있다. 그러므로 『略纂』보다 풍부하고 자세한 주석내용들을 포함하게 되며 當代 唯識諸家의 학문적 이해와 판단으로 新譯 唯識敎義의 整合에 큰 기여를 하게 되는 것이다.

영어초록

The existing commentaries of yogācārya-bhūmi-śāstra(瑜伽師地論), Yúqiéshīdìlùnlüèzuǎn(瑜伽師地論略纂), by Jaeun Gyugi(慈恩 窺基) and Yugaron-gi(瑜伽論記) by Doryun(道倫) of Shilla are the precious sources offering the understanding on the Vijñapti-mātratā(唯識) at that time and the perspectives of many commentators. However, for evaluating both the commentaries, there are few studies to counterevidence if Yugaron-gi is just copying Yúqiéshīdìlùnlüèzuǎn and if it merely collects and lists many commenters’ theories and discussions on them. Since the translation of yogācārya-bhūmi-śāstra, there have been more than 60 commentaries on it, and this study aims at investigating how Doryun wrote his commentaries, Yugaron-gi with intentions and differentiation.
For the research method, the comparative analysis through the entire investigation of the Yugaron-gi is just copying Yúqiéshīdìlùnlüèzuǎn. The research scope is limited in ‘Pañcavijñānakāya-saṃprayuktābhūiḥ Manobhūmiḥ(五識身相應地意地)’ of Viniścaya-saṃrahaṇī「攝決擇分」.
Viniścaya-saṃrahaṇī is the commentaries on 50 chapters of Maulī bhūmiḥ「本地分」 and its contents are summarizing and reveals the deep and important meaning of Maulī bhūmiḥ. In addition, Yúqiéshīdìlùnlüèzuǎn has the commentaries on 66 chapters of yogācārya-bhūmi-śāstra only, and it is available for comparing and analyzing the previous chapters before Viniścaya-saṃrahaṇī.
Doryun’s commentaries on ‘Pañcavijñānakāya-saṃprayuktābhūiḥ Manobhūmiḥ’ in Viniścaya-saṃrahaṇī with then entire investigation has three characteristics which are summarized as follows: irst, Doryun made thoroughly the sections on the contents of yogācārya-bhūmi-śāstra.
Second, Doryun made his own commentaries on the part which had not been commended by many commenters.
Third, there are more various commentaries by many commenters are listed and collected than úqiéshīdìlùnlüèzuǎn and Doryun made the commentaries with his own supplement, addition, correction and rearrangement according to his judgement and intention.
Doryun’s thorough sectioning seems to arrange and cite many commenters’ theories, different opinions, and discussions on the themes more properly and effectively. If there was lacking in the commentaries, he did his own commentaries on them. Such sectioning and citing is to add Doryun’s own judgment and intention, raising the understanding on the contents and offering a chance to meet various perspectives by many commenters. In addition, he cited lots of commentaries from Buddhist scholars of Shilla which were excluded in úqiéshīdìlùnlüèzuǎn, making its own significant higher.
Therefore, it has richer and more detailed commentaries than úqiéshīdìlùnlüèzuǎn, contributing to synthesizing new translation and selecting the most distinctive theories with academic understanding and judgement of the brilliant Buddhist scholar at that time.
