초록

본고는 동아시아 상고⋅고대문화에 대한 ‘중원계 예제문화’적 시각, 또‘서⋅북방계 샤머니즘’적 시각과 차별화되는 ‘한국계 선도문화’의 시각으로써 동아시아 적석단총제에 나타난 ‘원⋅방⋅팔각’ 상징 및 ‘3⋅7⋅5⋅9 계단수’ 상징의 선도적 의미와 지역적 변화상을 살핀 연구이다.
선도문화는 삼원오행론이라는 기학적 세계관에 기반한 문화이다. 삼원오행론은 모든 존재의 본질이자 우주의 근원적 생명(氣)인 ‘일기 (一氣)⋅삼기(三氣, 천⋅지⋅인, 원⋅방⋅각)’가 ‘1기⋅3기 ↔ 2기 ↔ 4기 ↔ 8기’의 과정을 거치면서현상화(물질화)하고 현상은 다시 본질의 차원으로 수렴된다는 ‘존재의 생성과회귀’에 관한 인식이다. 이러한 존재의 생성과 회귀 과정은 다양한 상(象)⋅수(數)로 상징화, 배달국시기 단⋅묘⋅총 및 옥기 유적⋅유물에 두루 반영되었다.
배달국시기 대표 제천시설인 ‘환호를 두른 구릉성 제천시설(3층원단류)’, 또는 ‘3층-원⋅방-환호’형을 표준으로 하는 적석단총에 나타난 바, 원⋅방및 3층 상징은 천⋅지⋅인(원⋅방⋅각) 삼원사상 및 지감⋅조식⋅금촉 선도수행을 표현한 것이었다. 배달국시기 적석단총제는 단군조선시기 고인돌 단총제와 공존⋅결합하는 방식으로 이어지다가 B.C.3세기 무렵 배달국 적석단총제의 발원처였던 백두산 서편에서 다시 부활, 고구려에 이르러 대표 제천시설로서의 위상을 회복하였고 백두산 서편⋅한반도⋅일본열도에서 크게 성행하였다.
B.C.3세기 이후 백두산 서편⋅한반도⋅일본열도에서 성행한 적석단총제는 배달국 적석단총제의 원형을 계승하는 한편으로 지역에 따른 다변화의양상을 보였다. 원⋅방 상징 외에 팔각 상징이 나타났고 3층 외에 7⋅5⋅9 계단수 상징이 나타났지만 삼원오행 표상 내에서의 다변화였다. 반면 중원지역에서는 중원사상인 음양오행론에 의한 상징 변형으로 4 계단수 상징이나타났다.

영어초록

This paper is a study on the Sundo(仙道) thought and regional changes of the ‘Circle(圓)⋅Square(方)⋅Octagon(八角)’ symbol and the ‘3⋅7⋅5⋅9 staircase’ symbol in the stone mound altar⋅tomb of the East Asia with the perspective of Korean Sundo culture that is different from the perspective of Chinese ritual culture and the perspective of Western or Northern shamanism.
Korean Sundo culture is based on the Ki(氣) philosophical worldview called ‘the idea of the five natural elements of the three dimensions(三元五 行論)’. It is the theory on ‘the creation and regression of the being’, that is, ‘One-Three(One Ki氣-Three Ki三氣, Chun天⋅Ji地⋅In人, Circle圓⋅ Square方⋅Triangle角)’ is the substance of all beings and the cosmic life particle, becomes phenomena(materialization) and the phenomena converge again into the dimension of the substance through the process of ‘1⋅3 ↔ 2 ↔ 4↔ 8’. The creation and regression process of the being had symbolized by various statues(象) and numbers(數), and reflected in Altar(壇)⋅Shrine(廟)⋅Tomb(塚) and jade artifacts of Baedalkook(倍達國).
The ‘Circle⋅Square’ symbol and the ‘3 staircase’ symbol of the representative Heaven Ritual facility of Baedalkook, ‘the hilly Heaven Ritual facilitiy with a moat(‘three layer-circle⋅square-moat’ typed stone-mound altar⋅tomb)’, was the expression of the theory of One-Three一⋅三(One Ki-Three Ki, Chun⋅Ji⋅In, Circle⋅Square⋅ Triangle), the core onthology of Korean Sundo and Jigam(止感)⋅Josig(調 息)⋅Geumchog(禁觸) Sundo discipline.
The stone-mound altar⋅tomb system during Baedalkook period led to the coexistence and combination with the Dolmen system during Dangun Joseon(檀君朝鮮) period. By the third century B.C., it was resurrected in the west side of Mt.Baekdu(白頭). In Goguryeo(高句麗), it regained its status as a representative Heaven Ritual facility, and was prominent in the west side of Mt.Baekdu, Korean Peninsula, and Japanese archipelagos.
Since the third century B.C., The stone-mound altar⋅tomb system in the west side of Mt.Baekdu, the Korean peninsula and the Japanese archipelago succeeded the original form of Baedalkook and showed some diversification within ‘the idea of the five natural elements of the three dimensions’. In addition to Circle(圓)⋅Square(方) symbol, Octagon(八角) symbol appeared newly. Also in addition to 3 staircase symbol, 7⋅5⋅9 staircase symbol appeared newly. On the other hand, ‘4 staircase symbol’, the deformation form by the theory of ‘the five natural elements of Yin and Yang(陰陽五行論)’ had appeared in China.
