다문화교육맥락에서 전통문화을 주제로 한 미술교육의 접근방법 (Building Cultural Identity through Art Education in relation to Multicultural Education)

초록

본고는 다문화 사회에서 미술교육을 통해 스스로의 지역과 전통 문화를 새롭게 해석하고 이에 대한 학습 방안을 찾고자 하였다. 정보와 지식을 전달하고 습득하는 수직적인 학습에서 벗어나 교재가 다양하게 제공되고 학습자 스스로가 관찰하고 사려하여 이해하는 학습으로 변화하기 위한 시도이다. 스스로의 문화이해와 정체성이 기반이 되어야 다른 문화를 학습하고 이해하며 포용하는 다문화교육이 가능하다 할 수 있다. 본고는 우리 문화이해의 기회를 전통미술에서 찾고자 하였으며 우리 미의식에 대한 이해를 위해 우리 전통미술의 언어와 상징적 의미 고찰 하였다. 또한 새로운 교수방법과 교안의 구성요소로 전통미술을 전통미술의 언어로 학습하고 이와 연계되는 현대작가의 작품을 학습하며 주제를 중심으로 한 창의적 글쓰기와 제작 활동을 제안 한다. 자아를 실현하고 타아를 이해하는 첫 걸음을 문화 속의 발견과 이해로 미술활동으로 시작하고자 한다.

영어초록

This study aimed to examine multicultural education, cultural identity, Korean tradition art, its aesthetics, and education and also to find out useful components for art activities in elementary school classroom. Even though it is not a new concept of education, current discussion on the topic brings out new perspectives and thinking in the field of education.
Art education including art-making, thinking, appreciation has to be reexamined and organized according to our culture (pattern of thoughts). Healthy self-identity and understanding of others can be gain though art education since a complex process, art can reveal not only reveals a part of themselves but also relates to their lives and environments.
Strategies were devised for three units with 5 steps providing visual information and material for motivation, art appreciation, creative writing or integrated lesson, art-making, reflection on their works and their tradition art and culture in terms of examining on the works of well-known contemporary artists. Using contemporary artists will bring out new perspective to understand art for the participants.
The following areas were examined: (1) post modern condition, multicultural education, and cultural identity ; (2) Korean tradition art, its genre and aesthetics; (3) reflective interpretation as related to post-modern values in the visual arts (4) contemporary artists practicing tradition art.
Three units (four lessons each) were devised with related themes: (1) architecture and nature, (2) motives, design and life; (3) being a member of society and self-identity.
The curriculum assumes that understanding is gained when students can refer to their own experiences; when the students' own lived experiences are integrated into an art experience. In post modernity, the grand narration of history is examined for our different perspectives; all of us become others to each other. It requires a new kind of sensitivity and tolerance, opening the door to everyone in our society.
