‘죽음’을 주제로 한 ‘자전적 치유공연(ATP)’ 연구 (A Study on 'Autobiographical Therapeutic Performance' with the Theme of 'Death’)

초록

본 논문은 ‘죽음’을 주제로 한 ‘자전적 치유공연’에 관한 연구이다. 참여자들이 ‘죽음’을 주제로 한 공연을 경험함으로써 ‘죽음’을 제대로 직시하고 생의 전환점으로 만들 수 있는 행동들을 어떻게 발견하는지, ‘죽음’에 대한 인식이 어떻게 바뀌는지에 관하여 연구하였다. 그것을 위하여 죽음의 의미와 그것을 담아내는 개인 공연의 형태 그리고 의례적 기능이 어떻게 자전적 치유공연(APT)으로 완성되는지 살펴보았다.
현대사회에서 ‘죽음’은 과학 기술로 무장한 병원 안에서 물리쳐야 할 ‘악한 대상’으로 삶과 분리되어 존재하게 되었다. 그러므로 ‘죽음’을 제대로 직시할 수 있고 받아들일 수 있는 기회가 제공되어야 하며 그것은 죽음에 관한 ‘의례’로서 존재할 필요가 있다. 이러한 현대적인 ‘의례’가 필요한 상황에서 ‘죽음’을 주제로 한 ‘공연’의 제작을 제시하고 개인의 ‘죽음’에 관한 이야기를 담아낼 수 있는 의례적 기능을 가진 예술 활동으로 ‘자전적 치유공연’ 에 관하여 연구하였다. ‘자전적 치유공연(ATP)’은 현대연극의 특성 즉, ‘자기(self)의 발견’과 ‘의례(ritual)의 발견’을 통해서 발전되어온 개인의 치유와 성장을 목표로 하는 공연이며 동시에 미학적 완성도 또한 갖추고 있는 완결된 예술 형태이다.
이러한 예술활동으로 ‘죽음’을 주제로 한 ‘자전적 치유공연’을 현대적인 ‘의례’의 기능으로 만들기 위하여 실제 ‘죽음 의례’에서 발견한 고유의 치유방식을 적용하고자 하였다. ‘죽음 의례’의 치유적 구성요소로 발견한 가장 중요한 방식은 바로 ‘보이지 않는 세계의 현현’이다. 사람들은 그 세계 안에서 다양한 행동과 소통의 방식들을 생생하게 경험하면서 이를 통해 ‘의례’ 이전과 이후 인식과 행동의 변화가 온다는 것을 발견하였다. ‘보이지 않는 세계’를 구성하는 요소를 ①의례의 구조 ②상징의 사용 ③공간의 설정으로 상정하고. 이 요소들을 활용하여 현대의 의례이기도 한 자전적 치유 공연을 제작할 수 있으며 이것을 바탕으로 공연의 의례적 요소를 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 내용적으로 참여자들은 각자의 처한 상황(애도, 개인의 성장, 트라우마의 극복, 무기력에서의 회복)에 따라 ‘죽음’을 다루었으며 회복과 치유의 효과도 함께 경험할 수 있었다. 이것을 통해 ‘죽음’을 사유하며 ‘상징적인 죽음’을 자신에게 적용하며 치유의 효과를 다양하게 가질 수 있는 가능성을 보여주었다. 결국 ‘죽음’을 주제로 한 ‘자전적 치유공연’은 누구나 쉽게 접근하고 수행할 수 있는 예술 활동과 치유 활동으로, 어디에서나 실행될 수 있다는 가능성이 있음을 확인하였다. 그리고 그것은 오랜 시간 우리 곁을 지켜왔던 ‘죽음 의례’가 주는 치유성을 현대 사회의 일상 안에서 회복시키는 방법이기도 하다.

영어초록

This thesis is a study on 'Autobiographical Therapeutic Performance' with the theme of 'death'. This study was conducted on how participants could face 'death' properly and discover behaviors that could make them a turning point in life, and how the perception of 'death' changes by experiencing a performance on the theme of 'death'. For this study, I first examined why the thought of ‘death’ is necessary in modern society. ‘Death’, which has been accepted as another name for life in human history, has come to exist separately from life as an ‘evil object’ to be defeated in a hospital armed with science and technology in modern society. Therefore, an opportunity to properly face and accept ‘death’ must be provided, and it needs to exist as a ‘rite’ about death. In a situation where such a modern 'rite' is necessary, it is an artistic activity with a ritual function that can present the production of a 'performance' with the theme of 'death' and contain the story of an individual's 'death'. ' was studied. Performances that can tell the story of the individual, that is, 'self', can be found in the unique form and direction of development of experimental theater. I figured out how to tell the story of in modern theater, 'discovery of self' presented a new form of performance by revealing the actor himself to the audience, and accompanied the growth of the actor himself. In addition, it was confirmed that 'ritual', which had a great influence on the form of modern theater, is also a basic element that helps the fundamental occurrence of healing in performance. 'Autobiographical Therapeutic Performance' is a performance that aims for personal healing and growth developed through the characteristics of modern theater, namely, 'discovery of self' and 'discovery of ritual', and at the same time, it also has aesthetic perfection. It is a complete art form equipped with.
And in order to make the ‘Autobiographical Therapeutic Performance’ with the theme of ‘death’ as a function of a modern ‘rite’, the original healing method found in the actual ‘death ritual’ was applied. The most important method discovered as a healing component of the ‘Ritual of Death’ is ‘The Appearance of the Invisible World’. As people vividly experience various ways of behavior and communication within the world, they discovered that changes in their perceptions and behaviors before and after the 'rite' came through it. And, it was confirmed that what constituted the ‘invisible world’ here was not the shaman’s contact or magical abilities, but clearly structured performance elements. The elements constituting the ‘invisible world’ are assumed to be ① the structure of the ritual, ② the use of symbols, and ③ the setting of space. Using these elements, an autobiographical performance, which is also a modern ritual, could be produced, and the ritual elements of the performance could be identified based on this. In terms of content, the participants dealt with ‘death’ according to their circumstances (mourning, personal growth, overcoming trauma, and recovery from helplessness), and they were able to experience the effects of recovery and healing together. Through this, participants thought about ‘death’, applied ‘symbolic death’ to himself, and showed the possibility of having various healing effects. Through all these research processes, the 'Autobiographical Therapeutic Performance' with the theme of 'death' applies 'the invisible world' as its healing component to bring about change and growth of participants and changes in their attitude toward death. It was found that it could perform the function of a modern 'rite of death'. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the 'Autobiographical Therapeutic Performance' with the theme of ‘death’ is an artistic activity and healing activity that anyone can easily access and perform, and has the potential to be practiced anywhere. And it is also a way to restore the healing properties of the ‘rite of death’ that have been by our side for a long time in the daily life of modern society.
