작업 단계로 본 훈민정음의 제자 과정과 원리 (The Principal and Process of Forming Letter in Hunminjeongeum as a Step Approach)

초록

이 논문은 제자의 과정과 제자의 원리를 보다 명료하게 인식하기 위해, 작업 단계의 관점에서 훈민정음 제자의 전 과정을 체계화한 것이다.
훈민정음 창제의 이론적 기반은 주역에 근거한 역학 이론, 중국에서 유입된 성운학, 한자 분석으로부터 나온 문자학 이론 등에 있으며, 이를 배경으로 제자 작업이 시작되었다. 제자 단위의 설정 단계에서 음절 삼분법이 채택되었고, 이에 따라 초성, 중성, 종성이 제자 단위가 되었다. 이어서 제자 단계와 글자 운용법 마련 단계가 이어졌다. 제자 단계에서는 초성 제자와 중성 제자 작업이 이루어졌고 종성자는 초성자를 다시 쓰도록 하였다. 초성과 중성 제자 작업에서는 각각 음성 분석을 통한 목록 작성, 작성된 음성 목록의 체계적 분류와 기본자 결정, 제자 원리의 개발과 글자꼴 형상화, 역학 이론의 결합이라는 절차가 수행되었다. 기본자를 정하고 이 기본자를 바탕으로 다른 글자를 만들어 내는 방법은 초성과 중성에서 동일하다. 이 방법이야말로 훈민정음 창제에서 가장 빛나고 독창적인 것이다. 종성 제자 단계는 간단하다. 즉 종성을 별도로 만들지 않고 초성을 다시 쓰도록 한 것이다. 제자 단계가 완료된 후 글자 운용법 마련 단계가 이어졌다. 이 단계에서는 합용법, 합자법, 팔종성법, 한자 혼용법, 방점법 등이 결정되었다. 새로 만든 글자를 실제로 사용할 때 필요한 규정을 이 단계에서 마련한 것이다.
그런데 실제의 제자 작업에서 본고에서 설정된 각 단계들은 계기적으로 단절된 것이 아니라, 제자 작업의 전 과정에서 상호 통합적으로 작용하며 수정과 보완을 거듭하여 창제 작업을 완성해 갔을 것이다. 즉 각 단계들은 서로가 서로에게 작용하며 수정 보완하는 지원(feedback) 관계로 봄이 적절하다.

영어초록

In this paper, I have reviewed the forming letter process of Hunminjeongeum stage by stage. A brief summary of its contents are as follows.
First, I have reviewed the theoritcal base required for creating Hunminjeongeum. The Theory of Change(易學) based on the Book of Changes(JUYEOK 周易) the Chinese Phonology from China, the Graphonomy from chinse character analysis are theoretical foundation.
The letter fomation is started based on this theory. First, Eumjeol Sambunbeob(音節三分法, Dividing a syllable into three parts) was adopted, so this three part that choseong(初聲, Initial sound), jungseong(中聲, Middle sound), jongseong(終聲, Final sound) become a unit of forming letters. Subsequently, the forming letter steps and using letter method is continued.
In the forming letter steps, creating of choseong and jungseong are done, and jongseong was reusing choseong letters. In the forming of choseong and jungseong, the procedure that the index composition through voice analysis, systematic classification and basic letter decision of voice index, development of letter forming principle and figuration of letter form, combination of the Change Theory are performed.
The forming letter principle of choseong was the way that modeled after the vocal organs and added strokes to basic letters. The forming letter principle of jungseong was classified into three groups according to degree of ‘Seolchuk’(舌縮, tongue retract) and ‘Seongsim’(聲深, Depth of voice), and determined basic letter form according to shape of ‘Samjae’(三才, Heaven, Earth and Man). Subsequently, according to ‘Habseongbeob’ (Composition method) that compose three basic letters, it was making jungseong letters left. The method, to determine the basic letters and to make the other letters according to it, is the same way to make choseong and jungseong. Definitely, this way is the most inventive and original features. Forming step of jungseong is very simple. It is reusing choseong letters, not make jongseong letters separately.
After forming letter step is completed, the using letter step was followed. In this step, it was decided ‘Habyongbeob’(合用法, the way of letter use together), ‘Habjabeob’(合字法, the way of combine the letters), ‘Paljongseongbeob’(八終聲法, the way of Eight Final Sounds), ‘Hanja Hon-yongbeob’(漢字 混用法, the Chinese Characters use mixed), ‘Bangjeombeob’(傍點法, Side-dot representation), and so on. The rules of specific use in the newly created letter Hunminjeongeum was arranged at this stage.
My work of this paper is to systematize the whole process of forming letters of Hunminjeongeum for more well-defined cognizance forming letter process and principle from a working step point of view. But, the each working steps to set up in this paper would had completed not severance but coordinated interaction syntagmatically with modification and supplement in whole process, that is to say each working steps might have been feedback relationship modifying and supplementing to each other.
